@mediocrebot orginal price at walmart $298-$328 + tax(as of late 2012/ early 2013) Listed on MEH at least 3 times before 09/23/2014 for $300 for 2. Jul 21, 2014 $180 17 Aug 2014 for $160 . Last i checked the lack of price checks is due to the fact that emerson is walmart discount tv brand(the same way insignia is best buys discount brand)
@sp3ar big tvs dont make for good moniters. generally moniters have better responce time and some moniters even have 120fps to 144fps support. where as this tv only goes to 60fps
@ruouttaurmind Really good tv, but the speakers are for whatever reason under a plastic, and so you'll have to go into the higher numbers for a "default sounds". Overall, really nice, but if you're looking for a noise-blasting tv, then this one isn't it. But if your house is quiet, I recommend it as it's really nice.
@RicoSuave Thanks for the feedback! Anyone using one as a PC monitor? Looking for a secondary PC display mostly for web browsing and maybe some light duty video production previews.
@ruouttaurmind I bought two before and amazingly I would buy again. I posted a more detailed review before (search for my Emerson 2 for Tuesday post). The picture quality is above mediocre, but I agree the sound is lacking as others have mentioned, but good enough for non family room use. No need to hold out for a smart TV, I paired this with a Fire TV Stick and am totally satisfied for a bedroom TV, even considering the speakers. I have the other one hooked up to a surround sound receiver in the basement to test different speaker setups and without the sound to complain about I often forget it's a cheapy. Emerson is not a Walmart only brand, but this model may have been. Emerson makes In Sink Erator and Kenmore garbage disposals for example, but it's irrelevant as this is actually a Funai TV rebadged as Emerson. If you are in the market and considering a TV like this, just buy it, you'll like it. Besides, the next Black Friday is a long way off.
@ruouttaurmind I bought the two pack. I really like the TV, Good picture, but as stated by RicoSuave the sound isn't so great. I keep mine turned up all the way and adjust it on the cable box. I'd buy it again, though. Good price for a decent TV.
@mehdaf I don't know this for sure, but it is possible that Walmart owns the Emerson brand for TVs. Many old electronics manufacturers have spun off different divisions and so we now sometimes have different companies selling different items under the same "brand" name. FWIW, I bought this TV the last time it was here for $160 - no complaints. 2ndary TV for the kid's room and it works fine.
@Outofmymind quality of the comment is based on the quality of the product being discussed... in today's case, It only warranted six letters with no capitalization or punctuation. sad. @lisaviolet: Always with the hitting... I love it. Never change!
Both of mine from the last time there were here are still going strong (6-8 hours of runtime a day). The internal speakers suck, use external speakers. I did notice that the 275 day Meh warranty isn't offered this time around though.
@cwolfpack3 I bought this TV along with a Fire TV Stick, and I am completely satisfied, even impressed. At least when technology changes yet again you can just buy a new streaming device and not have to pay for the overhead of having it built in to your set, only to become obsolete in a year or two. I sound like I work for Meh or something but only because this was my favorite purchase here out of maybe two dozen purchases. Totally worth it.
@cwolfpack3 Agree with the others. When I upgraded our TV's a few months back I wanted wifi/smart functions too. The issue is they charge more for it, and typically you end up paying more for a tv with it, with reduced features. Roku, Fire, Chromecast sticks or just a good Blu-Ray with smart apps ( I went this route to get VUDU ) is the best plan.
@cwolfpack3 I have yet to use a Smart TV where the apps built into the TV worked anywhere near as well as any of the third-party dongles. Smart TVs seem like a good way to save on clutter, but when nobody seems to be doing it right, you'll likely just end up with a box anyway...
@Outofmymind True. I've been using a projector with a 110" projection screen in my gameroom as the primary TV. We all but quit watching on the 42" downstairs. 110" feels "normal" now...
I'd have gotten this, I am looking for a TV exactly this size with very little concern about picture quality. And the price is perfect. But everyone on amazon says it just stops working after a few months.
@stoopkid The only redeeming quality is that this one is refurbished... so it already stopped working on someone, and they "fixed" it. At this price, I think it's good enough to put in my guest bedroom. It will probably be watched 10 hours a year.
@stoopkid which is exactly why Meh has so many of these refurbs. I'm just hoping the fix uses better parts or a different design than the original. Mine has been working well for several months. Anyone have any details on the specifics of the most common failure mode? For what it's worth the TV says it was refurbished in the U.S.
Wow..this is horrible. This TV is not even worth $50. Just Google the TV and read the absolutely horrible reviews! Multiple reviews about TV breaking after minimal use (as little as 40 hours).
A friend and I bought two of these the first time they went on sale. He's been using his fairly regularly and it still works fine. Mine worked fine the first two months or so.
It probably works fine now, too. I just stopped having a use for it and haven't turned it on since.
I've been looking for a new TV to supplement the old tube set I have now. This price is tempting, but the 90 day warranty and number of reviews saying it just died after a few months make $160 too big of a gamble for me.
It seems like all the people that are giving negative comments regarding this purchase do not own one, yet the others who have purchased this before have no issues with it and in fact think it's a great set. I purchased the 2 for Tuesday deal on this clearly expecting the possibility of having to ship them back. I knew that Emerson is just a brand for Funai (and other cheap Chinese imitation companies) but 2 Full HD LED backlit 39" TV's for $300 was hard to pass up. I was completely surprised how decent the picture was. The menus had lots of options. The only thing not all that great was the sound- but seriously what flat panel TV has great sound. For $28 I got a 2.1 set of computer speakers that sound really decent now. I added a smart refurbed blu-ray player for $35. This is a great deal for someone on a tight budget, or for TV's for like a workout room for for a bedroom. If you need a cheap TV don't pass this up, it is well worth the money despite it being made by Funai.
Can't speak to whether the online reviews for this TV are valid since we do not own one. However, we do own two excellent MAGNAVOX DVR's (popular, and the only remaining DVD-burner/harddrive DVR's remaining in the market). They are made by Funai. They've been running solidly for years. And their reviews are very good.
@RedOak Funai has come a long way from what their quality used to be. But manufacturers either evolve or fail out. Remember how Hundai was a complete joke and now some of their vehicles lead their class.
Any flat panel display you buy now will likely not be compliant with the latest HDMI 2.0 and 4k specs (4k aren't even agreed upon yet) so if you need a display to make it through the next year or so with your current technology, most of the contributors at http://twit.tv/show/home-theater-geeks would say to get a cheap one. This qualifies and if it makes makes it through the first 30-40 hours it will likely last as long as it was designed. Don't expect accurate color or 0 motion blur but these cheap panels are commodity items now any many folks never even bother to take their displays out of demo mode.
Bought 4 last time around, no complaints about any of them (gave 3 away), and am thinking about another. It isn't a great TV, but for me, anything better isn't worth it unless I spend at least $800, and meh to that, it's just TV.
Would have loved it before I spent my christmas budget. Even this low price is too soon after holiday spree for me. If everybody skips it maybe I can catch it next go-round.
@xEBRONx I wouldn't mind an expensive deal as long as it is a great deal on a solidly reviewed product. But certainly it is much easier to move sales volume when the dollars are lower.
This little bargain was waiting for me on my doorstep when I arrived home today. Fortunately the brand name printed on the side of the box acted as an effective theft deterrent. All joking aside, I set it up in my bonus room, plugged in a Chromecast and it is working great. Wish I had ordered another one for the spare bedroom.
@beerandhotwings I got mine this weekend as well... I did get mine for the spare bedroom. I actually got my first comment deleted at cough cough *WOOT* this morning because I mentioned that I got a TV here. (They're currently selling a similar specced refurb TV for a $110 more.)
I got my yesterday and and the screen is shattered on the top. plug in and all i get is audio and a black screen with a spiderweb shatter across the top middle
@JonT Just got an email from emerson "Thank you for your email to Emerson Consumer Support. I understand that the TV is cracked and broken when you purchased it. Please be advised that it automatically voids the warranty of the product. The best thing that you could do is to bring it back to the retailer."
The VIDEO mode wasn't working so she FaceTime'd me so I could help. After ten or so minutes and out of desperation, I told her to start plugging the yellow component cable into all the other plugs. To my amazement, when she plugged it into the red composite plug, the video appeared on the screen.
That means that during refurbishing, Funai mixed up the red and the yellow wires, and they don't even test their products before after refurbishing.
I actually find it quite humorous. I'm just glad I don't have to have her send it in for warranty... She had already recycled the box in one of those "impossible-to-steal-from" recycling crates.
So as an FYI, if you call emerson directly they send you right back to the seller (just got mine, there seems to be some serious LCD damage in the left side/lower left corner). I guess it's just a question of waiting on support at this point. From what I can see of the TV it is precisely as advertised, however- looks good, light, the TV color seems fine. Stand's a bit weird,
RE: My issue with the the TV that shuts off and turns back on again at random intervals. I emailed Emerson/Funai support and they replied today saying that the unit is out of warranty. WTF Meh?
They also said the nearest "Authorized Service Center" is all the way in Little Rock, Arkansas. This TV is turning out to not be much of a bargain...
@frescowill@Ogun@socos Sorry about that, that really shouldn't be happening but it looks like we'll have to poke them ourselves. Go ahead and contact support but please know that in light of the recent Fuku craziness our support team is drowning a little bit so it might be close to a week before a response, sorry :(
@JonT Oh I did so, and I understand (though apparently I missed Fuku). As I said, the TV looks great, it's just unfortunately not functional (but the bit I can -see- looks fantastic). Just a bit frustrated.
@JonT Thanks, I sent a message earlier this week, still waiting for a response. Of course now all you get is the 'something went wrong' video after submitting.
@JonT FYI they did that last time too. They told me that since it was less than 30 days since I had bought it I had to talk to the seller and they couldn't do anything (@hollboll took care of it for me and everything worked out to my satisfaction, just caused a little delay)
I swore off Emerson after dealing with a bad TV from them. After sending it back for repair, they kept it for about 6 months, and finally, after several harassing emails, issued a refund because they couldn't fix it.
Hi, I ordered two of these, and somehow my billing PO Box address got listed as my shipping addy...
I was notified of this by Marcus in an email on Jan 5, and sent him back my delivery address, but I never got any confirmation that he got it, and now my TV Order status is still listed as "placed", despite all these nice folks having already received theirs'.
Could some one help me get my two (hopefully functional) TV's?
@Thumperchick Hi TC, Thanks for the reply. I not only emailed Marcus the "Member Engagement & Experience Manager" back, I used the "I need help with this order button and emailed through that... I haven't heard back from ANYONE!, other than you-so thanks for the feedback, at least now I know that I got through to some bio-entity (if I can presume that much). Thanks again,
@PhysAssist support has been a bit overwhelmed and is taking longer than usual to reply. Their response time was up to several days last I saw. If you haven't heard from them for a week after you wrote in, then I would write back. I am not staff, so most of my info is gleaned from forum posts by staff and magic. Good luck!
I was browsing the Emerson website product listing for these TV's. The page there has firmware update download links for 3 different serial number sequences. Here is the page link for anyone who has one and wants the firmware updates:
Just following up! After a little bit of back and forth emails with Funai/Emerson Support. They are going to send out a replacement TV. But first they are sending me an empty box to send the broken TV back to them (I'm assuming it's prepaid)
Still haven't gotten a replacement or anything. Called Funai/Emerson and they said warranty is voided. MEh finally replied to my email and says its under warranty. i call Emerson back and say its not our problem its the shippers problem. So idk whose problem it is so i called my credit card company up and im fighting the charge. To me its my only option left.
I got my replacement TV a couple weeks ago. Seems to work fine so far. @frescowill, they initially told me the same thing, somehow they changed their tune (Maybe meh set them straight?) and initiated a replacement procedure.

@mediocrebot
What color is it when it's turned on i wonder?
Meh!
@jsh139 Really. I wanted to not buy a speaker dock today, not a tv.
@LionMan Speaker docks rock. I have proof.
eMEHerson ?
Ew.
Meh on this one...now maybe a monitor would be nice...
@thenightstar What he/she said. Could use a monitor more than a TV . . . but there is always room for a speaker dock
@thenightstar why not use the TV as a monitor?
@sp3ar big tvs dont make for good moniters. generally moniters have better responce time and some moniters even have 120fps to 144fps support. where as this tv only goes to 60fps
@communist you are expecting that @snapster isn't going to put up another set of cheap 60 Hz monitors that aren't much better then this
@communist but it's more than mildly challenging to find 39 inch monitors with 120 Hz panels for $160... even in North Korea or Cuba.
Just waiting for Community to start back up!
@cbaker #9seasonsAndAVideoGames
Obsolete in a few years?? This is one step away from being obsolete now.....
"A Mediocre Corporation announces its acquisition of Amazon." -and all the rest. Funniest write-up yet!
@KDemo I really want that car its rather beautiful
Sorry about the meh.
Meh-merson
Jet pack man is pretty hot though
@VeeDubTDI That appears to be @MEHcus.
@VeeDubTDI I want to know how do his flip-flops stay on while he's flying? Wouldn't gravity make them fall off?
No HDMI so... what? Three. Really? Hmmm...
@nadroj No four HDMI, so....
Folks who bought these last time around... feedback?
@ruouttaurmind thats what I wanna know
@ruouttaurmind Really good tv, but the speakers are for whatever reason under a plastic, and so you'll have to go into the higher numbers for a "default sounds". Loving the 8 bit display in 1080p. I'll be passing, meh.
stupid
@unixrab stupid is as stupid does sir
@unixrab You must be busy trolling someone else's business. Even for you this was a crappy functionless comment.
@unixrab
Ah, that felt good.
@Outofmymind quality of the comment is based on the quality of the product being discussed... in today's case, It only warranted six letters with no capitalization or punctuation. sad. @lisaviolet: Always with the hitting... I love it. Never change!

@SunnyBeach Well Paul...you are a former children's TV show host arrested in 1991 for ... stuff. ;-)
This makes my cheapo TCL tv in the spare room look good.
Meh. Very Funai, Emerson unreliable TVs...
@marvelljones Yup....Spend a little extra on a name brand TV.
Emerson? This is really meh
: ) !?!
This sucks.
Oops, I mean "meh."
@mjkane1 big fat tube tv's suck, this is just meh.
Both of mine from the last time there were here are still going strong (6-8 hours of runtime a day). The internal speakers suck, use external speakers. I did notice that the 275 day Meh warranty isn't offered this time around though.
Has almost all the specs we're looking for. Except WiFi. Bummer. I was THIS CLOSE to buying. Need a Smart TV that is internet-ready.
@cwolfpack3 get a chromecast?
@mehdaf We have a Roku. Should have thought of using it, just that we have it tied to another TV. Thanks for the feedback!
I should get one just for the free shipping!
@hallmike No you shouldn't....
Meh. I might consider it if i didn't already get one when there was that deal for 2 of these at $300...
Talk about Meh!
Not sure if it's a deficiency in my math or my eyesight, but I seem to be missing that third HDMI port, inconveniently numbered HDMI 1
@astrienne It looks like it is on the backside.
@astrienne its located on the back on the tv along with conposite ports see the picture on the walmart website http://www.walmart.com/ip/23871674?www=true&productRedirect=true
@TerriblyHuang Ah, perfect. Thank you.
salty-innate-crab. Meh know's I'm a cancer.
@TerriblyHuang
Best answer on the internet and with a pic!
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
@jrwofuga It's taking a little too long for pops to respond.
I love purple.
@jrwofuga Found you something. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KD5DXHE/ref=vp_c_A1VX5U247KV0PW?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
@jrwofuga That's my boy!
@Cinoclav That's a nice deal. . . one might even say. . a slickdeal?! hum? HUM?
@Cinoclav he/she is no relation to me.
@jrwofuga How can you disown your father like that?!?
@jrwofuga The slickest in multiple ways. It's funny that of all the options, GA was the one showing. Unless, uh... You posted it.
@Cinoclav options? There were options besides UGA? . . .strange.
Would this be a good choice for a bedroom TV? I feel like 42" might be the new standard.
@versabox I went from a 37 to 42 in mine a few months back. At first I was like woah this is big. Now I am wondering how a 70" would look.
@Outofmymind True. I've been using a projector with a 110" projection screen in my gameroom as the primary TV. We all but quit watching on the 42" downstairs. 110" feels "normal" now...
@versabox Depends on how far from your TV your face will be. http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/choosing-the-right-size-tv/
@clawfrank According to that, I need to upgrade my projector to 4k. I'll tell my wife you said it's OK. :-)

Fly @mehcus, Fly!
I've been looking for a new TV to supplement the old tube set I have now. This price is tempting, but the 90 day warranty and number of reviews saying it just died after a few months make $160 too big of a gamble for me.

@xEBRONx I wouldn't mind an expensive deal as long as it is a great deal on a solidly reviewed product. But certainly it is much easier to move sales volume when the dollars are lower.

@JonT Oh I did so, and I understand (though apparently I missed Fuku). As I said, the TV looks great, it's just unfortunately not functional (but the bit I can -see- looks fantastic). Just a bit frustrated.
@Ogun Totally understand, it sucks.
@lichme yikes thats sucks
Hi,
I ordered two of these, and somehow my billing PO Box address got listed as my shipping addy...
I would really really appreciate it!
Thanks,
PA
@PhysAssist This is something you should write back in to support about.

Hopefully I get a good one this time!
