So I am looking for a nice 6’ leather training leash. Purchased a highly rated Logistical Leather leash, but the clasp has failed twice. Luckily we were in the back yard so it was not a devastating issue.
@ybmuG I kinda thought someone might suggest a whip. I giggled when I saw the lasso of truth! It was perfect. It is really too bad I cannot modify mine for Charlie, but he is too big/strong.
@RiotDemon@ybmuG I bought the harness that matches the leash I linked. If I clip the leash in the front I can’t teach the short handle so I clip it on the back. If she gets six feet of momentum I’m going for a ride.
@sammydog01 with the harness I have, I can literally control my dog with one finger. She’s 75+lbs. My leash is around 4 ft. It’s an adjustable leash that can go 6+ft long.
The Freedom No Pull Harness and double ended leash worked wonders for my dog who though she was a plow horse who had to drag anything that was behind her. The leash clips to the front, back, or both. We still use them nine years later but only on her back. Freedom Harness
@tinamarie1974 She had a bad habit of biting the nylon leash as soon as I put it on so it is rather frayed at each end (dog’s fault, not the product). Otherwise they are in perfect shape 9 years later.
@callow@tinamarie1974 My dog has a long thin neck and wide ribcage so I haven’t found a harness that fits her yet. When I hook to the front clip her harness just swings around. This one looks more adjustable, I’ll give it a try. Thanks!
@tinamarie1974, not leather but this is a great company. Good products, customer service & guarantee. Been using them for many, many years/pets. Can get online or at some pet stores.
You’d be hard pressed to find a better buy than this one. Our 40# Puggle who’s more muscle than brains (especially when she was young) broke, chewed up, etc. several others before finding this one.
@RiotDemon@tohar1 yeah it had pretty good reviews on Amazon so I purchased it and the clasp failed a few times already. Pup wasn’t even pulling on the leash as he is wearing a training collar, so loose lead and faulty clasp.
@RiotDemon@tinamarie1974 Sorry about that. I should have looked at the brand name. That said, I’ve only replaced mine once after about 5 years of use, and we do a lot of walking (Average over 5 miles per day!). I did notice that they have changed how the clasp is secured to the leash. Ours has a braided connection…
@RiotDemon@tohar1 yeah when I reread the reviews there were a lot of negative reviews from long time owners stating that the new product is not of the same quality as what they were use to in the past
@RiotDemon@tinamarie1974 We were definitely enjoying our walk that day! Last truly nice day for us probably until next Spring. Pics were taken in Glendalough State Park near Battle Lake, MN, September 10, 2020.

You’re welcome!
@ybmuG well done my friend and I have that particular lasso! I don’t think that will work though on the puppy
@tinamarie1974 I saw the post and said “it can’t be that easy, can it?” Wish I had a good actual suggestion.

@tinamarie1974 though I would say if we had it to do over again, we’d use a harness. Doesn’t solve the leash issue, but I never claimed to be helpful…
I bought this one- the short handle is great for when she’s pulling.
leash
@sammydog01 ok, well if you want to be helpful, and all…
@sammydog01 @ybmuG this is not a leash, but a harness recommendation:

Clip the leash on the front of the chest for much more control. If the dog pulls, it turns them around. Works great.
When my dog was much younger I did use a head collar/halter. She wasn’t a fan but it kept her from pulling me down the street.

Look for an 8-in-1 style leash. It comes in handy way more than I expected!
Here’s an example of a leather one:

Personally I use a biothane version which is weather and odor resistant and the one I use can be found here:

@callow their braided leather lead looks interesting. You did not have issues with the product quality/hardware at all?

@callow @sammydog01 good luck Sammy. I’m gonna try the leather lead. for both of us

@tohar1 I think that’s the one she said her dog broke the clasp on twice.

Happy yours is working out for you

Your pup is adorable!

We bought this one back in 2017 and it’s still working fine. Our dog is like 90 lb but she’s pretty chill.
