Does anyone else disagree with their spouse about how they've aged?
8I think when I was younger I was vicious. Now i think I’m mostly respectable, but I stand up for what is right. She says I’m still vicious and intimidating as fuck to people I don’t like. I pointed out I used to do things that could lead to prison regularly. She pointed out that if I did that now she’d castrate me. Thoughts?

Sounds like you two are in love.
@Barney Honestly, we’re sickeningly cute (to other people).
Sounds incredibly like a conversation that is had at my house, with some regularity. Maybe we need to grab a beer . . . Pretty sure we need to keep the wives away from each other though.
@Pavlov Where ya from?
@Pantheist Metro KC area, southern Johnson county, KS side.
@Pavlov Damn. I’m up in southern Maine. My family is in NJ and hers is in GA so I don’t even have an excuse to go out that way.
@Pantheist Except for talking with Pavlov, there is no reason to come out this way.
@Pantheist That’s funny, as I was just looking at a 5 bed 4 bath with 275 acres and a kick ass barn in Perham on Zillow just last night, thinking that when I sell my business early next year I was moving out East at least part-time - and that is in my “pay cash” range for a second home - unless, of course, I just say fuck it all and go to Europe (which is possible). I get out that way a lot, I’ll ping you here next time I go that way and we’ll exchange emails to see if we might be able to hook up. I probably need to stop in Chicago and kick it @carl669 first though . . .
@Pavlov You are giving up the Royals?
@Pavlov Sounds like a good plan. I know it’s still far from Perham, but we live in Eustis during the summer because it’s cheaper. Not an awful drive. edit: weird. same driving time as from here. Oh well, I’d be up for an adventure.
@Barney I will never give up on the Royals sweetheart, no matter where I may go. They have never given up on me.
@Barney
This looks particularly exciting:
@PlacidPenguin The Cawker City ball of twine? Great fun!
@Barney
@Barney
How exactly is it “fun”?
And is it inherently “fun”, or is it “fun” due to the fact that it’s in Kansas after all?
Forgive me, but I’m not too familiar with Kansas.
It also didn’t help that top tourist attractions recommended by Google for KC are located in Missouri.
@PlacidPenguin You were not listening when I said that there is no reason to come to Kansas?
@Barney
I’d still rather go to Kansas than to California.
@PlacidPenguin You might like Yosemite or Redwoods National Parks…
@PlacidPenguin Is that…the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota?..
What was he trying to prove, who was he trying to impress
Why did he build it, how did he do, it was anybody’s guess
Where did he get the twine, what was goin’ through his mind
Did it just seem like a good idea at the time?

@PlacidPenguin This might interest (surprise) you -

My offices are in a duplex near the middle of town (zoned residential and commercial because of the side of the street it is on) just north of the business corridor - my home is about as far south as you can get and still have a mailing address within the city.
@Pavlov let’s just say if you’re in chicago and didn’t let me know… well, nothing would really happen, but i’d be disappointed. i’m sure there’s other chicago area meh’ers that would probably partake as well.
@carl669 I’ll let you know . . . would have preferred to have an excuse to go to Seattle, but I can get drunk in Chicago too!
@Pavlov When are you ever sober?
@MrsPavlov . . . don’t kill my buzz woman!
@MrsPavlov You do sound like my wife…
(And just because of the formatting; @Pavlov, @MrsPavlov, @carl669)
@Pavlov just curious: when you said “…kick it @carl669 first though . . .” did you forget a preposition or add an extra noun?
@mollama Yes.
@Pavlov Wow, that house in Perham is really in the middle of nowhere. If I were heading that far, I’d likely continue to P.E.I.
@sligett
@Pavlov
That house in Perham is near to “escape Trump velocity” but not quite there.
So close.
@sligett I prefer middle of nowhere. Did you see that barn?!
@f00l @sligett I was actually looking for middle of nowhere, low surrounding population, close to the border and easily defensible with ample acreage / room to build a bunker.
And I’m not at all kidding.
Oh, and outside of the projected ash fallout (of any significant depth) if Yellowstone pops its lid.
@f00l in our defense we did pretty well this election cycle. 3 out of 4 electoral votes for Hillary, legal recreational marijuana (including the most liberal growing laws in the us and the first state to have legal marijuana social clubs), raised minimum wage, ranked choice voting, and an extra 3% tax on people making over 200k individually for public education
@Pavlov
If this place doesn’t wind up being right for your purposes, can you still buy and convert decommissioned missile silos as people used to?
Always wanted one.
Googling “missile solo house” or “missile silo residence” throws up at lot of results.
@Pavlov That home in ME is a handsome place, but it seems to me that if Yellowstone blows then you’ll be too far north to support much local food; you’ll need to ship it from Gulf Coast & Southern Atlantic regions
@compunaut I can feed a family of four for 10+ years and eat very well (damn well actually) and quite nutritiously with what I’ve got in storage (MRE and freeze dried, etc) . . . All I need is a source of water. I can even desalinate if need be . . . If I can kill a couple deer or turkey or two each season, all the better. But it isn’t necessary. It just stretches things even further and makes for more variety.
Yeah, I’m one of those guys. But IMHO, everyone should be.
Now that everyone knows the address I’ll have to look elsewhere - oh well. Probably way too much snowfall up there for the Mrs. anyway.
@f00l Yes, you can still buy them. No I won’t buy one. Not only does everyone know where they are, they are resource hogs if looking at them for full time living. Too hard to take off grid for more than a year or two . . . And frankly, unless there is a radiation issue, you really need to be above ground as much as possible.
@Pantheist Sorry for the thread hijack.
@Pavlov don’t be sorry. I hunt too. Without going into details, if you know where to look you can fill a deep freezer in a couple weeks. There is a lot of land that is more or less untouched by people.
@Pavlov
The Mennonites are already set up with basic living and agricultural and doing nicely in a lotta places this hemisphere. I think they have a large community in Belize.
Mennonites do not attempt to convert anyone to their religion. You kinda have to beg to get in, can take 1/2 a decade. They do cooperate with everyone decent locally. Very live and let live. Practiced at starting with subsistence and turning that into prosperity. Very good w farming ranching livestock construction repair and shop work. Many or most have cars and internet. Nothing against machinery or computers. Some small # are IT specialists - I know one working on a SW engineering PhD.
They don’t do live TV or radio but the ones I have met are fine with appropriate streamed media and film. Family-friendly in their own homes. They take people in if asked - you have to live by their rules.
They are good at offering assistance and in building schools hospitals roads etc in poor areas. In 1st world areas they are just helpful neighbors. Governments do not see them as threats because they are non-political. People wanting to leave the US behind and survive whatever is coming could do worse than to move near a Mennonite church or settlement and make a few local friends.
@compunaut you might be surprised by what will grow in a greenhouse during long summer days
@Pavlov No, I hadn’t clicked thru the pix to see that barn. That’s terrific! Also terrific that there’s water on the property. Altogether, it looks like you get your money’s worth in northern Maine.
And it’s only about six hours from P.E.I. for a fall-back position.
Next question:
(Spectator sport for me)
“Does anyone disagree with their spouse for fun? And is the spouse also a gifted and enthusiastic participant in this activity?”
I will pick up a spouse when Meh sells them for $25 or less, and then I’ll let you know.
@InnocuousFarmer
You want a bulk-discounted remaindered retired-product-line spouse?
Should this creature come with a knife and/or speaker dock?
/giphy spouse
@f00l Nice hat in that giphy. Wouldn’t mind one like that
