I feel like with the Internet trade shows are no longer needed. I learn everything I need to from the various blog sites - Engadget, the verge, ars, etc. IMO the only reason for trade shows is so a bunch of people can go somewhere to behave badly...
I still see the need to touch/hear/see, so as usual I will be attending CES. I am in the high end residential control and dedicated cinema industry, so actually being able to hear some new piece of kit, while looking the engineer is the eye can be quite valuable still.
Although, to Headly : It was more fun when AVN coincided with CES.
I used to love going to trade shows just to pick up the interesting giveways, which really weren't worth anything but were sometimes pretty cool and unique. Maybe you Meh attendees can think about gathering some up and throwing them into the next round of Fuku's. It should stir up some interesting chatter in the Forum!
I have to attend; I work for a CE company. Which means no vacation for Christmas or New Year as we prepare for the show. This year our company announced a new alliance of entertainment CE companies to make a better experience for the consumer; I was involved in the setting up of it. Cool to see the announcement live.... The best part is trolling the South Hall the last day with a pocketful of cash. A lot of companies simply do not want to haul the samples home with them so they sell the stuff off for cash. Even better are the Taiwanese and Japanese companies. Their government taxes them for equipment they haul out of the country and again when they re-enter. They have figured out to just hit up the local Costco in Las Vegas to buy a TV for their booth display, and then sell it off as the show ends. Cheaper than shipping back and forth. I remember AVN the same week; this year AVN is a couple weeks later. Even scarier I remember working the booth for Comdex for my company. That was many moons ago...
I keep up on it. A lot of companies from various industries debuting their product lines for 2015.
I wait for the highlight reel.
What's the inside joke on the blog posts?
@belowi Woot used to go to CES and make funny blog posts. Maybe they still do, I don't know.
Yup - and I'm there alongside every year.
Where is the "Yes I'm indifferent" option?
When can we expect to be snagging flying, bouncing or bobbling Irks at CES? I would much rather fight the mob for a troll instead of a monkey.
