@jmason55 Why would that concern you? And, if it really bothers you, why don't you just sign up for a Paypal debit card? That's what I use for everything.
@speediedelivery Umm I think that is one of their experiments - how to make us buy and at the same time make us think they are doing us a favor… looks like you bit.
@jbartus order a debit MasterCard from PayPal. It links to your available PayPal balance and uses your bank account (if you list one) as a back up funding source. There may be a requirement to have a credit card with a high limit on file to get a debit card from PayPal - if this is still a requirement, get a Serve card from AmEx and list it (PayPal can’t differentiate between a credit card and a debit card on AmEx numbers and Serve cards appear in the PayPal system as high limit credit cards due to some unknown glitch).
And what’s up with all these threads raised from the dead? Ghessh!
@f00l Serve cards are the bomb for an easy way to distribute petty cash or a per diem . . . and they are the best card for international ATM access I have found. (safest, no fees, etc.)
@jqubed tut tut. I demand that if you are to allege such that you please indicate how you would prefer such a request on a previously raised issue to be posted.
@jbartus I’d suggest at least posting in the thread on this topic from this year, the one with the most recent posts on the subject, but even that one’s roughly 8 months old. If the thread is over a year old I’d suggest creating a new thread, possibly linking back to older, dead threads on the topic.
@jqubed I maintain that that more recent thread should never have existed in the first place and whoever made it should be the one being lambasted for creating a duplicate thread.
@Pavlov if you meant my logic thanks, if not maybe you can clear up for me why @jqubed seems to favor a multiple threads on the same topic approach versus having all discussion on a topic collected in one place? It’s not like I was making a vastly different point about Paypal from the original post, the dates shouldn’t matter IMHO. :S
Paypal is not as convenient as a credit card. It is not more secure. I know of someone that had their Paypal account compromised and had all their money taken away. With a credit card, you don’t have to pay for any unauthorized transactions. But with paypal, all your money is already gone and you have to fight to get it back. In the meantime, all your checks and other payments are being declined because of your paypal compromise.
If you keep your money in your PayPal account, that is sad for you. Paypal does allow you to transfer those funds to a real bank account that can generate interest. If someone transfers money via paypal to me, I immediately transfer it out the second I get it.
Why do people not trust a merchant with their credit card number? If it’s vendor at a flea market or fair that will be gone in a day or two, I can understand but not for a regular purchase anywhere else. I use my credit card for all purchases over $1 just for convenience. The transaction is faster than paying with cash because they don’t have to calculate how much change to give you. Some merchants look at a $20, $50, or $100 bill with skepticism wondering if I handed them a counterfeit or something.
My credit card companies are quick to detect any sort of fraud. I live in Florida and I made a POS purchase from a California vendor. It was not MOTO so the credit card company called me immediately. I told them it was valid and life continued as normal. I’ve never heard of anyone getting a call from Paypal.
Paypal is not a universally recognized form of payment. Try paying for gas at the pump (at most stations) with Paypal or at a nice restaurant. Can’t do it. The Gas station requires you to physically insert the card and pull it out quickly and the restaurant person takes your card out of your sight to perform the transaction. Gas stations have even been given an exclusion on using the chip method so they are allowed to continue using the mag stripe. They may eventually be upgraded to using the chip but not by the deadlines every other merchant was given.
I accept credit card payments from people when they want to buy something from me. My credit card servicing company does not give me their whole credit card number. I only see the last 4 digits. Not very useful if I’m trying to defraud my customers. I’m pretty sure most businesses are the same way. Look at your receipt one day and notice your full credit card number is not listed there.
I know I stated this before in another thread somewhere but I’ll say it again. If there is fraud on your account, you are not responsible for it. Even if you are negligent such as lost it and didn’t tell your credit card company, the most you would ever be liable is $50 according to your credit agreement. I’ve never seen it listed higher than $50 and I’ve never heard of any case where a customer has been charged that $50 and I’ve worked in the credit card department for 10 of the 25 years of my banking industry.
@cengland0 Paypal is not to blame for a user’s poor security practices. Frankly the idea that they should be liable for that money if it’s left their system in any way is laughable to me. People reuse passwords and use weak passwords all the time and then want to blame companies for their problems. I am sorry your friend had an issue, I hope that they are taking more care with their security practices these days.
As for the rest, I don’t use cash really and whip my plastic out at pretty much every opportunity. Regarding it being accepted everywhere (pump, restaurant), nobody has made the claim that it is, nor asked that it be.
Yes. Yes I do.
I really like this Snapster. He makes me happy
You are a sick, sick person.
I would agree with you, but I've started this new thing where I just disagree with everyone... for fun
@capguncowboy looking to be the goat, eh?
this is one of the best films ever made... err... remade. First DVD I ever bought
@JonT I just had a seizure .
Without PayPal as an option, I'm afraid to make a purchase.
@jmason55 Have you seen some of the things these weirdos send people? Even if they get PayPal you should be afraid...
@jmason55 Why would that concern you? And, if it really bothers you, why don't you just sign up for a Paypal debit card? That's what I use for everything.
@jmason55 If you put your credit card info anywhere else on the internet you shouldn't be any more worried about buying from us.
@JonT Ummm, VMP should come with a warning. It is too easy to impulse buy 3, this place is addicting.
@speediedelivery Umm I think that is one of their experiments - how to make us buy and at the same time make us think they are doing us a favor… looks like you bit.
P.a.y.P.a.|. is not your pal.
I really need the option to pay with paypal :(
@macleodhbu Get a paypal debit card and you'll be all set.
Step 1: Paypal your money to a friend with a credit card.
Step 2: Your friend orders your Meh wares on said credit card.
Step 3: ?
Step 4: Profit!
Just gonna toss in a vote for Paypal. I’d be buying my max order of 3 battery sets today if I could put it on my Paypal
@jbartus
You deserve to be January 2017 Goat for resurrecting this thread.
Altho PayPal as an option is fine. Tho people who use it will never get a fuko.
@f00l
But you still take the blame for the fact that this thread was resurrected.
@PlacidPenguin
@f00l takes all blame for
@jbartus deserving to
Be very next Goat.
@f00l would you have preferred I make a new thread on the topic?
@jbartus
@f00l strongly prefers
That whatever you do means
That you are next Goat.
@f00l I think you meant to say “proffers”
@jbartus
@f00l thinks @f00l meant to say
"@jbartus is the January 2017 Goat".

@Pavlov
Re Serve cards - good to know.
Re threads resurrected: Goat them all.
@Pavlov have one, won’t do what I want. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Resurrection for good cause I thought, don’t see any point in creating multiple threads on the same topic.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@f00l Yeah, if you necropost in a 2-year-old thread, that makes you a strong candidate for the goat.
@f00l Serve cards are the bomb for an easy way to distribute petty cash or a per diem . . . and they are the best card for international ATM access I have found. (safest, no fees, etc.)

@jqubed . . . he is getting goated next month regardless, time to welcome this fucker to the club.
@Pavlov I thought we were friends?
@jbartus We are - but you’re still getting goated. It’s an honor, really. And you get a kickass trophy and a fuku. Deal with it, fucker.
@Pavlov
Don’t forget the wall of shame.
@PlacidPenguin
Could you bring it up to date?
@f00l
That honor belongs to @Thumperchick.
@PlacidPenguin oh man, I really need to catch that thing up.
@jqubed I maintain that that more recent thread should never have existed in the first place and whoever made it should be the one being lambasted for creating a duplicate thread.
@jbartus I actually understand this logic . . .
@jbartus Good thing I meant your logic or I might feel obligated to explain.
@jbartus
@Pavlov may understand your logic. So may others. Fuck, so may I myself.
Yeah, Goat-To-Be.
Is it for convenience, security, or because you keep money in your PayPal account that you’d like to spend?
If it’s the third thing, you can get a PayPal debit card.
@phatmass
@phatmass @jbartus Just my two-cents.
