Hmm. I usually make goals, and normally ones that can be completed with little willpower. 2013's goal was to complete all of the old Gamecube and Gameboy Advance games I still had in my backlog, and I managed to achieve that. This year, was to complete 12 games from my backlog of old game systems. (PS1,2 and Wii) and I'm at 11 so far, working on the 12th. I doubt I'll finish it before the end of the year though.
I use the new year as a time for assessment. What have I done this year to further my long term goals? What have I done to slow down that progress? What are my bad habits? What are good habits I'd like to form?
Once these are answered I make a list of everything I'd like to achieve for the year and ways to further my long term goals. One or two of these is usually a tangible goal for the year This years goal was a promotion, which I achieved along with a hefty raise. Obviously, I can't make that a goal every year, its not practical, that's just an example. This year will probably be something like obtaining my brown belt or paying off a school loan.
once thats done I make a list of habits to break or form and do one of each every two months. some don't stick (I love coffee) but a lot do (no more nail biting :-).
EDIT: I also have a backlog of books that I'll be adding this year.
Though it feels like I'm cheating: I've started a couple of reading plans and I've decided I need to start writing (I mean, writing something other than FB and meh forum posts). But I'm promising myself that I'll do it with very little resolution. And it's only coincidentally related to the New Year. And, really, I'm not committing.
I busted by arse at work this year, in addition to taking night classes, and was more productive than any of my teammates. Now it looks like I won't get the raise and promotion I deserve. So in 2015 the company will get the worker they deserve.
@bludgeon Hey, I'm kind of a lurker here, so y'all don't really know me yet, but I gotta give you a high five on this one. Sounds like we have the same job. I hope my boss quits in 2015.
You forgot to have an option for "No, you can't improve perfect."
@Kyser_Soze
Making New Years Resolutions is setting yourself up for failure.
not, like... for the whole year. i resolve to diet and exercise the first couple weeks of January.
Of course. I make the same one I do every year, mediocrebot: try to take over the world.

@kazriko That is an awesome goal. I also have a huge backlog of games, books, and DVDs. Thanks for inspiring me for 2015.
@kazriko New Year's resolution: play more video games. Huh, shouldn't be too tricky!
My New Years Resolutions just apply to New Years Day. This year I resolve to read 2 books and leave the house as little as possible!

Just say no.

@MSticklefeather
@lisaviolet Marking measurements on my hands never occurred to me. I don't think I'd tattoo it, but I'd definitely use washable marker. Thanks.
I resolve to slack off in 2015.
