Of course I use portable speakers. I use them at work (a high school). I've used them to provide audio for dancers in a parade. I've used them as a speakerphone, and a plethora of other situations. Bluetooth is my friend!
I do not understand the need for tiny portable speakers... I have a stereo with real speakers in almost every room of the house, the garage and the shed in the back yard. The smallest bookshelf speakers I have aren't much bigger and sound better than all these portable bluetooth things. But, you say, "portable..." I got quality hi-fi tunes wherever I need to be, don't need no stinking portable!
@bluebeatpete So you're saying you never leave your property? I've often taken a bluetooth speaker on vacation. The beach, condo/house rental on ski trips, etc.
@cinoclav@metageist When I am on vacation, camping, etc. I will do without tunes. Not to be an elitist bastard, but I would rather listen to silence/nature than shitty sounding audio. Music for me is much more than background noise.
@bluebeatpete There's not a lot of nature sounds in the condos we often stay in during ski trips. Nor do they typically supply stereo systems. I bring a small speaker so we can listen to music. I usually bring my Oontz Curve which has incredible sound for a small bluetooth speaker. I don't think that's particularly elitist...
I have a wee USB portable speaker that sits in the bedroom and makes my laptop noises palatable. I also have an Amazon Echo that sits in the kitchen and gets told 'Play "Your Shit's Fucked Up"', but gets dragged into the sewing room occasionally.
In the park, with @bxpeters

@Pavlov You're cold :)
@dashcloud I'm betting they sourced it for woot! after reading the discussions here.
Only if streaming via Bluetooth to my car stereo counts...

Yes. I call them headphones.

@cinoclav I was going to say the same thing. I got a bluetooth Jambox as a gift and that thing is great for things like travel and camping.

Yes, if you want to listen to music while camping ,use headphones. Don't impose your music on others seeking refuge from noise!

@madamehardy And in fact my wee USB portable is an Oontz Curve, which is amazingly good.
@madamehardy It really is, isn't it? Cambridge SoundWorks is so underrated.
I have a JBL micro in my car for books on tape while I'm waiting for my kids to show up. It saves my car battery.
Whilst hiking.
