@Thumperchick I have heard rumors that Anvil has improved now that they are owned by Gildan (we were discussing this in chat Monday and I asked @marcee and she said she asked @narfcake about it, if I am not misunderremeberating what was said).
I’ve got about six Anvil shirts from assorted woot randoms and while they aren’t as nice as the 100+ AA’s I have they are not hideous rags either. Of course, I’m not a chesty female and as I recall, the Anvils were worst for the well endowed ladies.
@Thumperchick Anvils were too big at the waist and then continued to bell out at the bottom. I’m a curvy chick but that was way too much fabric to try to shove in my jeans if I was in a tuck-my-shirt in mood.
Neckline on the Anvil shirts was always kinda wonky, too.
I didn’t shop on woot until fairly recently. I only bought shirts from them because the random sales started and they were the cheapest way to get shirts for work that are comfortable. My uniform covers the printing so it didn’t really matter what they were as long as they aren’t offensive since I walk into work without my uniform.
@caffeine_dude I have that one floating around somewhere too. Still one of my favorites. I was always drawn to (and bought) the twisted prints like these:
I haven’t purchased a shirt on Anvil for myself in a long time. I was fine with the quality at first, but then it became a dice roll as to whether I’d get an unwearable “mutant blank” so I stopped.
And never mind the kid shirts. Anvil kid shirts are basically made for spheres with arms.
@kevlar51 No kids here, but the change from AA to neckstretch Anvil and from neckstretch Anvil to mutant Anvil definitely affected sales. Shirt.woot has not had a sellout since they changed brands.
preferred poll answer: ‘no. i love graphic tshirts just not the ones on offer at woot.’
i bought a zip up hoodie from them a few years ago. it has a rabbit on the back with a skeleton that glows in the dark. i don’t buy the shirts because i don’t like the sizes offered and more because most of the designs don’t appeal to me. i watch it still though in case of totes. i haven’t bought anything from them in ages because it seems to be all high priced stuff. someone must be buying it, in just not sure why. (i guess someone who believe it’s really 70% off or whatever.)
actually, i did visit shirtwoot yesterday (or the day before?) after seeing this in the email because it was a good one (and doesn’t slap words on it to add a dumb saying or over explain the joke!) -
and i was reminded of the other reason i don’t buy shirts like this - because you can’t choose the blank color. most of my tshirts are black.
@therealjrn@sammydog01 I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure it’s a video game reference. I’m guessing Tekken / StreetFighter? And that’s maybe a Ryu type character throwing his super power thingy? Which is, in this case, an avocado pit?
yes, it is a “hadouken!” reference. i personally don’t play video games but it has become something of a pop culture…thing.
i ultimately chose not to buy it for the aforementioned reasons but also because since i don’t play video games i’d feel like a bit of a poseur wearing it, but it was the first time in a long time i saw a shirt from woot that made me smile and go “ha!”
@sammydog01 I knew what it was imitating, but I would if never known it was called avocadouken unless someone told me. I would of just thought, “What a weird mashup.”
My youngest finally grew out the AA kids size 4 of this and I am sad. I used to clothe my kids in random kids shirts (negligent parenting?) but even I thought Anvil kids shirts made them look like hobos.
@Chakolate Huh? Shirt.woot is typically $7-$10 for the daily, $8-$11 for sale, and $11-$14 for catalog. The shipping is a flat $5 for the entire woot site.
(Threadless, OTOH, is regularly priced at $25 + shipping.)
I own quite a few shirts from the classic Shirt.Woot. But since the sale to Amazon, I’ve stopped shopping at Woot altogether. Thank goodness for meh and TeeTurtle!
Anvil is still the bane of my existence.
@Thumperchick agreed even at $2 the shirt sucked

@baqui63 gildan sucks! i bought gildan underwear and the elastic wears out so fast
@baqui63 The Anvils have boob room- it’s the AAs that don’t.
@baqui63 Other way around. AA were “tiny”, Anvil were “too big”.
For men’s shirts, the quality got even lower after they were bought out.

(That’s a <6 month old MXL Anvil versus a 6+ year old AA MS. Yes, the AA shirt is still longer.)

I only stopped buying t-shirts due to having little to no disposable income these last few years
I stopped buying anything but randoms when I stopped paying attention to the derby entries, which was quite a while ago
@lichme /agreed…love me some cheap randoms. Only reason I visit Woot anymore
Mostly what @lichme said, though I’ll occasionally but something if it strikes my fancy or as a gift.
Only dirt cheap randos
This was the last one I bought back in 2011:
Haven’t really paid attention since.
@awk I got two of those as long sleeved tees. Both came in randoms in two different orders. In truth, (two) of my favoritest tees,
@awk dang, i like this one.

I also have the Avocado Man shirt, I find it hilarious.
"You’ve never heard of Avocado Man? He’s huge in Japan!!!"

@narfcake Narf, you just might have an addiction…
I do, but I just don’t expect them to actually send me the shirts I paid for anymore.
My kid wore the crap out of

@caffeine_dude I have that one floating around somewhere too. Still one of my favorites. I was always drawn to (and bought) the twisted prints like these:
@cinoclav in soviet russia, tree trims you?
@jerk_nugget That one gets the weirdest looks but it fits my twisted sense of humor perfectly.

@jerk_nugget Could you explain the joke to me please?
@sammydog01

I am not really confident, but I think it’s a person with collar shirt.
@Ignorant Now I see- it’s a shirt. Thanks!
@sammydog01 It’s called “Avocadoken” which doesn’t help me with the joke either. I don’t get it, damn sure wouldn’t wear it.
@therealjrn I would wear it if it cost two bucks.
@therealjrn @sammydog01 I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure it’s a video game reference. I’m guessing Tekken / StreetFighter? And that’s maybe a Ryu type character throwing his super power thingy? Which is, in this case, an avocado pit?
Thanks @marcee I wouldn’t wear it for free.
@marcee
@medz Thanks. Now it makes sense.
@sammydog01 i see it has been explained

@sammydog01 At $1.50, I’d wear it. Which reminds me, the latest batch is due here Friday.
@OldCatLady Mine too!
@sammydog01 I knew what it was imitating, but I would if never known it was called avocadouken unless someone told me. I would of just thought, “What a weird mashup.”

Second-to-last option should have been, “No, what kind of idiot spends $25 plus shipping on a t-shirt?”

@RiotDemon keep the comment. I stand bu it and at least not a political thread.
