@tHumperChick Well it depends... but I usually get 20 mins - 2 hours notifications... I think part of it is I'm getting errors on my gmail settings, which 20 mins later work.
Sometimes I go to the forum and notice someone mentioned my name and I didn't get an email at all -- ever. I wondered if Meh forums were smart enough that if I visited the forum and saw the reply before the email was sent then it doesn't send it.
@cengland0 if you check a thread within 10ish minutes, you won't get that notification. If you just saw the most recent comment in a thread, but didn't see your @ notification, you'll end up totally missing your comment.
@cengland0 Specifically, I've gotten notifications for a comment in a thread that I replied to yesterday - but their original @ mention email was sent to me today.
@Thumperchick Even if I have visited a thread within 10 minutes prior I would like to receive something. There are so many times I have gone back to threads and noticed that there are posts with my username that I never knew existed. Call me crazy, but I still believe there are some notifications we just don't receive.
@mfladd@Thumperchick per the meh engine room, every user is allocated 10 (or is it 20?) notifications per day. You two are a lot more active and replied to than that. Therefore, many mentions go unannounced.
@Thumperchick@RedOak@mfladd Yes, I do end up getting a lot of notifications but looking at the e-mail box... I tend to miss some too... I think its the whole if you're in the thread... and I tend to walk away right after posting so I can Command+R when I get back. :)
Ya know, if they had an PM/IM system, they could just have normal "new reply" indicators in that system and wouldn't even have to send emails out.... hmm.... ;)
So far, all the notifications since I posted this thread have come through perfectly, within normal time frame. I'll wait until/if it happens again and post an example.
I rarely seem to get email notifications period and yet I have them turned on. Especially for the last few weeks, there were several replies to posts with @mentions that I didn't get. They only recently seem to be working again, as in the last 2 to 3 days. Very mediocre...
@Thumperchick i checked the logs -- it (the first one you posted) went out 10 minutes after the post like it's supposed to. getting hung up somewhere else along the line.
I poked around and it looks like it's getting caught up somewhere between mandrill and hotmail. It's my own fault for using hotmail at all, really... I'll switch it up to another account and see how that works out.

@sohmageek I'm talking 5+ hours.
@thumperchick This is a test message sent at 8:38PM CST
@thismyusername I got that notification at 9:49 EST - so 11 minutes later. Totally normal.

@cengland0 @thumperchick Could be..
@cengland0 seems that is the case yes, seems to wait for the edit window to close and checks to see if it's still "unviewed" as far as I can tell.

@cengland0 yes that is how it works, thanks to @shawn

@thismyusername i've often wished we had that, but i think it comes with serious moderation issues, esp if someone starts getting harassed.
@katylava nothing "ignore" can't fix. :D
@Thumperchick you are not alone. I just got an email from an @ earlier today and I had already read it.

@Thumperchick I blame @goatplaceholder

@Thumperchick Did you check the date on the emails? Maybe they are getting delayed on the way to you.
@jsh139 I'll post some examples I found in the trash folder.
First up:
8 hour delay.
Second:
21 hour delay.
@Thumperchick I'm starting to get a 1-2 hour delay now...
Ooh, this is a perfect example!
2 days.
@Thumperchick i checked the logs -- it (the first one you posted) went out 10 minutes after the post like it's supposed to. getting hung up somewhere else along the line.
@Thumperchick -- checked the rest of them too... all were sent 10 minutes after the mention.
@katylava thanks for looking into it.
Really - is this only happening to me?
@Thumperchick look at the headers, perhaps your email provider is having issues.
I'll take a look at my emails @thumperchick and see if I'm having the same issue or not.
I poked around and it looks like it's getting caught up somewhere between mandrill and hotmail. It's my own fault for using hotmail at all, really... I'll switch it up to another account and see how that works out.
Thanks!
@Thumperchick What about Gmail then? Actually I've been having issues with gmail and iPhone recently... But its all good! :)
@sohmageek I switched to gmail, we'll see how that goes.
