Dark Side of the June (June 2021 Scapegoat Blame Thread)
18I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe May is already gone and summer weather is trying to sneak up on us.
Let’s all give @Lynnerizer great big thanks for catching the blame for us, while also working through her own troubles. Luckily they can take a breather and pitch a side glance to the new scapegoat, here to handle the spring/summer roll over, @sillyheathen.
Maybe she’s a silly goat for bringing this on herself with the much appreciated and widely admired counter-irk, but still fully deserving of all the blame you have to give. I hope you enjoy The Twilight Saga: New June, @sillyheathen. Own it.

I’m terribly good at accepting the blame!
Though it really should’ve been @kyeh…
@sillyheathen
No, no - you are obviously by far the most qualified to handle whatever comes your way,
and turn it into pure comedic gold - or orange!
🥳
@sillyheathen And I’ll start things off with an unblame - my irises are blooming, and smelling wonderful:
@Kyeh that’s okay. You’re going to get July when shit gets really hot! de fuego!!!
@Kyeh okay now I feel like a fucking arse! I guess I do deserve the goatdom!!!
@Kyeh I’m responsible for that shitty Velcro weed in the background. I don’t deserve your irises!
@sillyheathen OMG, yes - that evil cleavers weed, it’s gone crazy with all the rain we’ve had. That stuff is so awful when it turns to seed. I’m going to have to do some major yanking soon! Do you know that some people consider it a medicinal herb? I wish they’d come take it all!
@Kyeh yeah. It’s fucking evil and can cause photo sensitivity like rue. And yes I know this from experience and I will save you photographic evidence because it’s not the prettiest thing ever. And sadly I’ve been subjected to both. My love of science and growing geeky herbs hit a huge rock in the path the the rue.
It’s edible when cooked like nettles and apparently people use it as a substitute for coffee. I’ll bear that in mind if there’s a catastrophic event or apocalypse that I’m somehow unfortunate enough to survive. I’ll take tea or coffee until then thanks.
@Kyeh I should probably get some sleep. I have a lot of apologizing to do in the Morrow methinks!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen so that stuff was your fault? Our garden at our last house was overrun with it. I used to yank it out of the raspberries by the bushel full. I realize you weren’t Goat at the time, but since you’re the first to identify and admit blame, i figure you can take it. None of it yet at the new place, so maybe you’re in for an unblame later…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Kyeh @sillyheathen uh-oh, Goat!
@Kyeh @ybmuG I’m SOOOOOO sorry! I know not what I do!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen @ybmuG aawww poor yekop!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen @tinamarie1974 I know. He kept looking at me like “get it OFF, Dad!” And it seriously was the first time i had seen it at the new place - on yekoP’s muzzle! Had to get the brush out to get it all off.
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG tell yekop I’m truly sorry and I will pull a bunch out of my yard today in his honor!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen @tinamarie1974 yekoP says “WI worwive wu! Wanna fwow da fwizwe?”
@Kyeh @sillyheathen Don’t worry… we won’t forget about Kyeh… maybe in August when school is starting up again for kids and parents are stressing out. That should mean a heap of blame coming that goat’s way
@Kyeh @sillyheathen @ybmuG Yes but the important question is do you have raspberries at your new place?
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @ybmuG if not I can send you some canes and you’ll really be able to blame me.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @sillyheathen yes we do. And there’s some other kind of berry on the property that we can’t identify yet. It’s flowing so we should know soon. I also took some from the old place in pots and they survived the winter! We have everbearing reds and black caps.
/image black caps berries
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @ybmuG those are THE BEST!!!
@sillyheathen - blame for this box containing a multitude of orange items. also blame for me eventually getting drunk on vodka tea.
@carl669 you’re welcome!
Blame! It’s clearly your fault that my potted plants are multiplying faster than I can find homes for them. By the time I repot them, those babies have had new babies. I’m going to load up my car and take them to a local free plant market. I must not come home with new plants. No!
@OldCatLady That is most definitely my fault! I do love the green things. I’m sorry they’re being a PITA for you. They’re just wily little suckers!
@OldCatLady @sillyheathen
Maybe you need a helper to keep things trimmed.
@mike808 @OldCatLady I’ll take all the trimming help I can get. It felt like Louisiana up here today. I was weed eating today and got burnt up and had to stop. It got up to 97. I still have ice storm clean up to finish! I can’t use a chainsaw when it’s 97. So please. Send someone up to help. I will take any and all the hands! Shirts optional.
@OldCatLady @sillyheathen
Need help whacking weeds?
@OldCatLady @sillyheathen
Or keeping things wet?
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen Looks like he may have been wacking something else?
@Felton10 @mike808 @OldCatLady I’m not sure I can take the blame for that…
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
What nice… um flowers he has
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
Is it pathetic that I really would love for that weed whacker guy to literally, non-ironically, come tame my yard full of giant weeds?
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen Blame:
Yesterday I spent my evening trying to cut a path through this mess at the back of my yard.
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen And there’s this strange weed that’s almost as bad as the cleavers. It’s velcro-ish and the seed casings dry into nasty little spiky pods:
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
But! UNBLAME for my rhubarb plant this year, which is spectacular! We’ve had an unusually wet spring.
This is what finally motivated me to hack through the
jungleweed patch.@Kyeh I think the spiky ones we just called “nettles” as kids. And you need a fucking machete there, not a weed whacker.
@Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
/image strawberry rhubarb pie
@compunaut @mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
RIGHT!
@mike808
Danny Trejo is welcome to take a whack at my weeds!
@mike808 Also, that vine thing is not a nettle; I found the name online once but lost it and haven’t been able to identify it since. It seems to be rare; the i.d. I found showed it in the Pacific NW, so I’m hoping @sillyheathen might know? It evidently came from Asia.
@compunaut @Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady oh!!! I should make some mini ones In the pie maker from my IRK as my strawberries and rhubarb are ready. Well one of them. The other one is starting to die because my neighbor prayed crossbow on a windy day when I was prepping my veg garden. She didn’t think it was in issue but all it’s leaves are now yellowing and it’s clearly dying. My fault for not seeing it and saying something.
@compunaut @mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen Oh no … maybe it will come back? Rhubarb seems to be incredibly hardy.
@Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady it looks like it’s in the Galium family. I shall go to the google machine and see if I can find it as I’m currently avoiding the kid filled pool…
@Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady it’s super puzzling. It looks like a cross between vetch and galium. I haven’t found the actual plant yet.
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
I’ll be super impressed if you do. So strange - I did find pictures of it, and emailed my coworker to tell her about it, but can’t find the email or the original source. It was on one of those invasive plant lists, I think.
@Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady I’m totally deferring to my mom. She’s the president of the Tangipahoa master gardener society so I just sent it to her to see if she can identify it.
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
I FOUND IT!!! It’s actually from Europe, a member of the borage family, and appropriately named “madwort.”
Scientific name asperugo procumbens.
http://www.idahoweedawareness.net/wow/02_02_15.html
http://science.halleyhosting.com/nature/basin/5petal/borage/asperugo/procumbens.html
Nasty stuff, but at least it’s easy to pull. Sigh.
I’m beginning to understand why people give up their yards and move to condos. But I’m not giving in yet!
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen sillyheathen, thanks for your efforts - it looks like your mother is lucky to be out of the affected area for this weed:
@Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady well I do love borage…for the pollinators and because it’s edible blossoms taste like cucumbers so it’s great in salads. I’m guessing this isn’t the kind of borage that I want in my yard though.
@Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady I’m currently unaffected but it’s only one county over.
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
I wouldn’t mind this variety!
@mike808 @OldCatLady @sillyheathen
Or this -
@Kyeh @mike808 @OldCatLady I have the first in my vegetable garden and the second looks like comfrey which I have in the front yard. I know some people use it for medicinal properties.
@Kyeh @mike808 @sillyheathen The leaves make good poultices. Don’t drink tea made from them. https://www.growveg.com/guides/7-best-uses-for-comfrey/
I didn’t get the job that I wanted. I blame myself and @sillyheathen in that order.
@njfan I’m so sorry to hear this and I totally accept the blame. It wasn’t your fault mate!
Unblame as my mom very kindly got me a WW face mask! Will totally be rocking it next time I go out. Maybe I will wear my WW underroos too…only I will know my bra and panties match my mask, but thats ok!!

@tinamarie1974 well I mean we all know now.
@unksol but, but, but…I got nuttin!!!
@tinamarie1974 don’t worry the normies won’t know unless you wear them to the beach
@unksol what is this beach you speak of? No such thing around these parts, unless I drive about three hours
@tinamarie1974 “beach” is highly relative. I don’t think I’ve ever been to an ocean beach. Lots of lakes have a “sand area” some larger then others. That would suffice for kids.
Our “real” beach would have been great sand dunes national park on lake Michigan when I was a kid and that was a 2 hour thing to get there then get another back and… find a spot and and and. Why bother i still don’t know. But I’m a curmudgeon.
If kids wanted to go sure. They might make it fun. If they whine the whole way there and back. Well. You asked for sand up your a** kid
@unksol agree, it is just not worth the effort in the midwest
@tinamarie1974 hey now wouldn’t yours have sharks :p
you’re an all-star
@tinamarie1974 also I think an ocean beach would be worse. Never heard anything positive about them unless they are people free. I don’t get the whole pack together to sweat to death In 90+ degrees in burning hot sand? Never mind Florida in this year
@unksol I’ve bern to several beaches in Mexico and a few in Punta Cana with others and it was fine. Nothing like FL spring break. They were inclusive resorts so I may have had drinks in my hand the entire time
I was in Sicily during off season, it was still 75 or 80 degrees with no humidity. I managed to hit the beach every day and was literally the only person there, as the locals thought it was too cold. Once I got over the creepy factor it was amazing to have my own private beach.
@tinamarie1974 oooh fancy beach lol.
No if there aren’t people and it’s just. Nice. Sure. I could see that. Beeches or sea side look amazing in places like that. Many places are if you just subtract the morons.
@unksol I don’t know how fancy they were. The one in Sicily was a small one. I was there tracing my family tree and stood in the tiny village where my moms family originated.
I’ll find a pic or two tomorrow and post them.
@unksol got bored, found it
@tinamarie1974 “fancy” is the wrong word. Sorry if that sounded sarcastic. More “Not domestic US” where they all get stupid. At least this time of year.
Awesome you got to see that. Pics would be cool
Edit: ninjaed me while I was typing. I’d watch that ocean roll
OWLS! TOWELS! JOWLS! AWESOME!
@unksol Not sarcastic, just didn’t want you to think they were extra fancy places. I have been to a bunch of US beaches as well, but they were mostly meh with crazy waves making it impossible to just swim in the ocean.
As far as the one in Sicily I would love to go back and hang out there again. From what I understand it is crazy busy in the summer months with tourists, so my target would be spring again!
@tinamarie1974 @unksol I thought the fun of the waves wasn’t to swim as much as body surf them or let them break around you.
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 @unksol
Always easier to bring a sailboat onto a sandy beach rather than a rocky one!
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 when we were kids we “jumped” them but you only get waves that big at lake Michigan and idk that it was worth it.
The adults just sitting on the packed beach. Meh.
A lot of things are pretty in the off season.
@compunaut @Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 as long as you remember to pull the daggerboard.
Unblame! You don’t need a secret meh handshake after all. All you need is a meh bag.
I was at MD Anderson Cancer Center and was carrying around my usual food bribery in a meh bag for the various medical teams in the depts where I had apts. A staff member I walked by in the hall knew exactly what that bag was all about.
@Kidsandliz A meh bag or an irk bag? I did not know the former exists.
T-shirts are usually how the Mehtizenry advertise the most mundane of e-commerce sites.
@mike808 When I said meh bag I was thinking of the company, what I meant was an actual irk bag.
@Kidsandliz Well, that’s fun!
@Kidsandliz that’s fantastic. I had someone in the grocery store a few weeks ago recognize my irk bag. I use them for everything.
@Kidsandliz @sillyheathen They’re my reusable grocery bags. And if I lose one or it drifts off, there’s replacements.
@Kidsandliz @mike808 and they hold a ton of stuff. I heart them!
@Kidsandliz Probably to no one’s surprise, especially yours, I keep all my balls in a IRK bag.
Blame: I am exhausted andy feet hurt
Unbkame: Because it was worth it. I threw my parents a small 50th anniversary party at my house.
@tinamarie1974 Hope everyone had a good time.
@Kidsandliz I think everyone enjoyed themselves
@tinamarie1974
Nice! And great that their 50th is now, when you can throw parties again!
@Kyeh well they wanted a hall and a band, but are still cautious because covid. I think their plan is to have a big shindig next year, but I wanted to at least make sure we celebrated and acknowledged such a big day
@tinamarie1974 Yes, that sounds like a good way to handle it!
@tinamarie1974 I’ll take it!
Since we are on a plant blaming binge-blame for the 18 month old palm next to my driveway that has died and needs to be replaced. Been told it will cost close to $1,000 for it to be removed and replaced with a similar palm. Both the builder and the HOA have disavowed any responsibility for it.
@Felton10 yeah. Once you cut the tip off it’s done. They don’t grow back. That’s a bummer. I’m sorry. If I lived closer I’d bring over my chainsaw and cut it down for you. I can send you a seedling as they’re all over my bloody yard but sadly I can’t help with a larger trunk. Thankfully none of your balls were lost or harmed in the palm incident! Did Ashley or Walter not bear witness???
@sillyheathen I can probably get my handy man to cut it down, but then I run into the issue of whether it has to be replaced (may have a # of trees requirement for my yard) so may have to contact Manatee County and then if I want to replace it with something else may have to ARC approval. Nothing is easy in a Florida deed restricted community.
Thanks for asking about my balls. Think my wife is getting a little jealous about everyone’s concern about my lower extremities.
Walter and Ashley aren’t getting along as well as I would have hoped. Maybe have to start looking for a playmate for her on Joe’s website.
@Felton10 yeah you can keep the CC&Rs. Thankfully we’re technically rural and don’t have any.
@Felton10 @sillyheathen Agreed. Our rural property is zoned PF (permanent forest), which comes with its own set of rules, but they are more or less reasonable rules that I can live with. We can pretty much cut what we want and plant what we want. Freedom!
@Felton10 Maybe the company that sold the builder/landscaper the tree might have a warranty and you can a get it taken care of that way?
@Kidsandliz The home warranty guy said it was a HOA issue, but although he has been very helpful and accommodating in the past, I am not through going up the chain of command to address this issue.
Blame - I’ve been resisting buying these, 2 for $19, because I don’t really need them, I just wanted them because they’re red.
And then, whaddya know, they showed up on Sidedeal at 4 for $20!!! So I HAD to buy them!
@Kyeh I’m always happy to take one for the team! Also you NEEDED them!
@sillyheathen Well, they were so beautifully red! And my sister has Apple stuff too so I could share … that’s my rationale, anyway.
@Kyeh sounds like a perfectly solid argument to me!
Hi Ya all. Anyone else secretly miss Robin W. &/or George Carlin & what they would say about today’s world ?
@newby1
Not secretly - openly and emphatically!
@Kyeh @newby1
@Kyeh @newby1 @sillyheathen
Y’all should listen to some Dave Chappelle.
Especially his 8:46 performance.
@Kyeh @mike808 @newby1 I love Dave!
@newby1 I saw George Carlin in concert three times-the last time about a year and a half before he died. He told us (the audience) he had just gotten out of the hospital for heart failure (what he eventually died from). He had a card table beside him with index cards telling us he was trying out new material and picked up a card before he started on a new topic. Was still as sharp as ever.
@Felton10 @newby1 color me all the green. I passed on a chance to see him once because the tickets were so expensive and he died not long after. Was so mad at myself. Same thing happened with Nina Simone when I lived in England. I REALLY want to see Billy Connolly live but since he’s officially retired I don’t know that I’ll ever get that opportunity. He’s fucking amazing!
@Felton10 @newby1 @sillyheathen
OHHH - Nina Simone - ouch!
@Felton10 @Kyeh @newby1 it was a tough one. She’s probably one of my favorite vocalists. It was gut wrenching. We were at the Reading festival and she was playing a blues festival nearby. She was billed to play the same festival the next year so we decided to see her the following year. But she passed before that happened.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @newby1 @sillyheathen
One of my favorite comedy shows was Cheech and Chong in a small club in Denver in the mid-70s. First set was go great we stayed and sat thru the second too. Maybe just as funny was the entr’acte which was a … wait for it… fucking HARP player. She was great actually, and made some pretty funny jokes about having her Grandmother come to see her play and not understanding the material C&C was doing! But really… who booked THAT combination?
@chienfou @Felton10 @newby1 @sillyheathen Sounds fun! I got soooo tired of Cheech and Chong though, because some of my friends thought it was hilarious to recite their routines any time they got high - especially “Dave’s not here!” Groan…
@chienfou @Felton10 @Kyeh @newby1 @sillyheathen
Perhaps you should have introduced them to a little Buggery on the High Seas…
Meh doesn’t link to a specific point. Jump to 9 minutes in.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @newby1 @sillyheathen
Yeah, they had lots of bits that were much funnier.
Oh and speaking of Robin Williams I loved him as Mork. They filmed some of that in your hometown, but only after I had left… mostly just exterior shots at a house on Pine and on the mall.
@chienfou @Felton10 @Kyeh @newby1 @sillyheathen
Speaking of Mork, I saw Pam Dawber in the credits of an NCIS episode the other day, and recognized the name as Mindy from Mork & Mindy. Turns out, shes married to Mark Harmon and thus, the NCIS connection.
I have a blame. For myself. I chose a camping spot almost four hours away near the coast. I kept going back and forth on bringing our pop up canopy because we were stuffed to the gills. It’s all my fault. We had to set up in the rain. Then I had to try and cook in the rain. First night wasn’t terrible. Was doable. We were camping. Though that means an entirely different thing now with three kids than it did in our twenties with none.
Second day was glorious. Friends drove down to meet us. Had an amazing day filled with sun, fishing, food, laughs, a little booze and hikes. Then the rain showed up again. At first it was cute. Then it was a little annoying. Then it was just gross and miserable. And we couldn’t get out of it.
We wound up making a family decision to break camp at 8pm. Loaded up the van and we’re on the road by 9ish with little sleep and a four hour drive ahead. It was sketchy as fuck! I made the Englishman pull over and over let me drive at one point because he was exhausted and I feared for all of our lives. After lots of coffee and singing at the top of our lungs to many 89s/90s tunes, we made it back to the OC around 1am.
I only have myself to blame. For the reals. I will do better next time.
@sillyheathen Nothing like wet underwear for an extended period of time. Except maybe wet socks.
@sammydog01 @sillyheathen
Our camping ‘system’ for 4 people + med/lg dog includes:
@sillyheathen I’m sorry you got rained out but what a beautiful spot! Hope you have better luck next time you go.
@sillyheathen Well, at least you have that beautiful picture you will be nostalgic about in about 10-15 years. I blame you for making me miss the times when my daughter was the size of yours.
@GrandmaLyn I will feel your pain sooner than later. They grow up so bloody fast. My youngest turned six today and she’s almost as tall as her 9 year old sister who is also tall…… Their 11 year old brother is about 3 inches shorter than me and I’m 5’7. I’ve resigned myself to being the dwarf in my bunch.
@GrandmaLyn
This is taller and tallest
@GrandmaLyn @sillyheathen My three girls are all about the same height as their mother (also about 5’7"). But my son is a good 3-4" taller than me. I was taller than my dad too and never let him forget it, so now I’m getting payback for all the ribbing I dispensed back then.
Blame and unblame-ever since one of my bottom front teeth got loose, the dentist told me it was only a matter of time until I would have to have all four bottom front teeth replaced.
Well today was the dreaded day. One had gotten so loose it was already extracted about 9 months ago. Second one was loose.
So after writing the dentist a check for $ 4,379 (Blame) after dental insurance, he went to work. After the numbing shots which was the worse part of whole ordeal, he had grind down the canine teeth on both sides to attach the 4 tooth bridge. He was grinding away and I told him to warn me which he was about to pull the 3 teeth. Said oh-already did that (Unblame). Have a temp bridge-come back in 7 weeks after everything heals for an impression for the permanent bridge to be taken. Yogurt for lunch, chili for dinner just to be safe.
@Felton10 I can’t apologize enough. Dental work is awful. I cringed the entire time I read this! I think my jaw is still clenched.
@sillyheathen Thanks for taking responsibility. You are an admirable GOAT.
@Felton10 just doin what I can sans balls!
@Felton10 ouch!
@Kidsandliz Not really that bad-the anticipation leading up to it was the worst part. At my age very protective of all my parts-even my teeth. Even had a wisdom tooth filled several years ago rather than having it removed.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz In my 20’s my dentist convinced me to have my wisdom teeth pulled to avoid needing a root canal on them later in life. Given my history of dental issues, he was probably right.
@Kidsandliz @macromeh @sillyheathen May have mentioned this before, but this was all caused by my dentist of 60 years ago. My dentist and orthodontist were having an argument if my teeth were too crowded a the bottom and maybe one needed to be pulled so he could put braces on the bottom teeth. My dentist won out, tooth was never pulled and never got braces on the bottom-only on the top.
Soon thereafter my dentist retired and went to a new dentist. He asked me when was the last time I had been to a dentist and I said 6 months ago-why? He said you have 13 cavities. Obviously my dentist who said not to pull the tooth was not very good given the 13 cavities then and the problem I have now.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @macromeh do I need to go find this guy and have @koolhandjoe steal his glass eye?
Blame, because the dog farted and he was very confused!!
/giphy dog fart
@tinamarie1974
Thank you I needed that this morning! Happily accept that blame!
@tinamarie1974 A confused farting dog-you must have something better than that to send “silly heathen” on her way?
@Felton10 I just figured it would make everyone giggle. I know I did watching his reaction. Everyone can use a laugh these days
@tinamarie1974 Wait-I’m confused-was it you or the dog that farted?
@Felton10 it was Charlie. Not saying I don’t fart, the older I get I think I am turning into a whoppie cushion, but this was all him!!!
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 Maybe Charlie needs these
@Felton10 @ybmuG nah that is only the second or third time I have heard him fart, he is more of a belcher. Always burping.
Maybe his owner needs them though lol
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 That’s wild. I only know of one other dog that belches (audibly). Otherwise, never heard of that. She’s araT’s cousin’s standard poodle (does that make her and yekoP 2nd cousins?). Walks right up to you and burps in your face. It’s her way of saying “I welcome you into my pack.” I think.
@Felton10 @ybmuG that is FANTASTIC!! My last dog burped all the time too! He was a little Pom and would get up in your face and let it rip.
@tinamarie1974 @ybmuG In case you are wondering, Walter does not and has never farted.
@Felton10 @ybmuG has he burped???
@tinamarie1974 @ybmuG No but he snores.
@Felton10 @ybmuG I didn’t know birds could snore
/giphy mind blown
@tinamarie1974 @ybmuG He is just repeating a sound he had heard-funny none the less as it comes at random times.
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG
That IS funny!
@Felton10 @ybmuG so who snores? You are the Mrs? Lol
@tinamarie1974 @ybmuG I’ll say it is her and she’ll say it is me.
I just want to apologize in advance for the thunderstorms and heat wave coming this weekend.
@sillyheathen We have that all summer down in FL-are you apologizing for the whole summer?
@Felton10 negative ghostrider. Just this weekend. It’s slated to get to 108 here in the Portland area.
@Felton10 @sillyheathen OMG!
@Felton10 @sillyheathen Damn 108. Fucking A. Humid or dry. Never mind. Likely humid since you are a temperate rain forest up there.
My best friend wants to move just across the border in WA from there (from southern CA). And here I thought moving north and west would get me rain (and I’d miss the sunshine from here in the deep south) but not temps like that. In northern ID it wasn’t that hot. Thinking about it I was far more north than Portland. I think I am going to put a second demand (first one was a front porch) which is no deep south weather. LOL
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz

Blame because the Lou had a heat index of about 106 today. So. Very. Gross!!!
@tinamarie1974 that I’ll take. I’m ashamed by the heat wave I have brought upon us all.
@sillyheathen @tinamarie1974
Oh, NO! That’s awful! 🥵
@Kyeh @sillyheathen it was gross, even the pup refused to go outside!!
@tinamarie1974 When I first saw it, I read it as the “loo” had a heat index of 106 and thought that would be awful!

@Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG Just switch to centigrade and it won’t sound as bad
Blame. My son got a new watch and broke the strap in two days.
@mike808 Yeah you right dat’s definitely my fault! Mais I’m so sorry sug. Whatcha want me ta do ta make it right?
@sillyheathen This isn’t a “fix my problem” thread. We’re just here to blame somebody…
@mike808 blame away!
BLAME - the blame thread title is a continual reminder that I somehow lost my Dark Side album in the move.
@ybmuG that is a very sad loss. I’m so sorry for that!
@sillyheathen @ybmuG Condolences.
Maybe there are substances you can take to help find it again.
/youtube dark side of the moon
@ybmuG Pile-on BLAME: The stupid software in my new car’s music system plays mp3 album tracks in alphabetical order as the names appear in the metadata. My mp3 music does not include the track number of the song in the track title in metadata (it is there in the actual file name), so albums like Dark Side Of The Moon, which are meant to be heard in the original song order (and that I have listened to in the original order for almost 50 years) play all wrong.
(Yes, I know I can edit the metadata, but do not relish the idea of doing that for thousands of songs.)
@macromeh Oh, man! I think that’s actually worse than losing the album altogether!
@macromeh @ybmuG
Um, buy a different car? Problem solved. You’re welcome.
@mike808 @ybmuG May not be that simple - from what I read in forums, many manufacturers use the same Korean software (with the same defect) in their audio systems. I have two recent cars from different manufacturers (Mazda and GM) that exhibit the problem.
@macromeh
I wonder if I noticed that or just did it to make the filenames sort that way too in ripping my media. My library prefixes the track name by the track number so it always sorts alphabetically.
Might be why I never noticed it as a problem. That is before I ditched traveling with a USB stick. Had SiriusXM for a while. Now I stream DI.FM on trips and local radio in town. And since I don’t commute anymore, listening to something in the car isn’t a problem needing solving. YMMV.
@macromeh @mike808 @ybmuG I just think it’s weird that you care so much about the transformers sound track.
Guess I’ll throw out a blame to SH for my riding mower having a problem with the automatic compression release and therefore not spinning up to start. Need to take it to the shop to get it checked out and see if I can get it running correctly again. Changed out the battery, starter and solenoid with no luck… Having trouble with the vehicle with the trailer hitch as well, so need to get the hitch installed on my Rav4 so I can tow stuff…
@chienfou definitely my fault!
BLAME - a week ago I tripped on cement stairswith a metal edge and slid/fell down 4 of them . You can see the metal edge pattern scrapped onto my leg. Bruises cover about 6 hands worth of my shin, lower two thirds of my leg on all sides, ankle and foot. Ankle and foot are swollen such that I can’t wear any of my shoes but a pair of sandals that were too wide to begin with.
Over the last week swelling and pain has increased dramatically. In true race to the bottom in quality of medical care (this state is always in the bottom 3) In the ER I wasn’t even given an ace bandage, despite severe pain no pain meds, and they suggested tylenol (yeah at 3:30 in the morning I would get that where? - took them frmo 7:30pm to 3am to even see me despite only 6 patients in the waiting room and no ambulances coming in during the entire time I was there. We could, in the waiting room, hear the extended conversation about someone who was finally getting married - lots of details. Maybe I will crash the wedding. Sigh.
When I was finally given some pain meds 3 days later they didn’t do much (and took 1.5 hours to do anything at all). When I tried to get my PCP to do something about the pain I was given an apt for 2.5 days later (tomorrow afternoon - Seriously? I hope those assholes suffer a similar fate of pain that prevents sleeping for more than about 45 min and hurts so much it is really difficult to ignore it).
I finally went to urgent care late afternoon and they gave me some “better” pain meds. Just took some and hope it works. Considering I have barely walked on it and the fact that it is literally twice as swollen as it was a couple of days ago and each day it is swollen more than the day before it makes me wonder what I actually did to it. I doubt I’ll ever find out in this state.
PS I will be in Houston this Sat - Wednesday. It occurred to me if it continues to get worse I could go to an ER or urgent care there. In that area that has Methodist, MD Anderson Cancer Center, U of TX and a bunch of other hospitals clustered together which hospital would be the best choice?
@Kidsandliz If it is swollen and hurts like you say it does, probably broke or fractured something. You need to get to a place where they can take x-rays ASAP. Good luck!!!
@Felton10 It was x-rayed when I first did it and nothing broken presuming they know how to read x-rays. I just really banged it up with soft tissue injury and now cellulitis. The lack of pain control, and the callus attitude that goes with that, is what infuriates me. I understand that this is a much larger problem now that people are paranoid that short term legitimate use of a pain killer will result in addiction so instead they just let you suffer. The physical therapist I am seeing for something else commented that this is getting to be a bigger and bigger problem. I hope karma gets them with exactly the same problem so they understand just how hard it is.
@Kidsandliz I am so sorry! That sounds awful. Hopefully you’re able to get it addressed properly.
@Kidsandliz Think you need to go to an orthopedic doctor-someone who is qualified to diagnose your problem. The fact that you are just being given medication to deal with the pain rather than address the problem means your are not having the right type of medical professionals look at it.
@Felton10 Catch is will have my days filled with MD Anderson apts so likely an evening thing so that would rule out orthopedics there. Methodist (if I recall correctly) even has an orthopedic clinic but it closes at 5 and isn’t open on the weekends.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz 28 years ago I fell off a roof and broke my heel (calcaneus) into 5 pieces. My wife took me to the emergency room at the local hospital and I got checked in. For 4 hours I laid on a pallet in agony with no pain meds or even much attention from staff. I couldn’t even get a drink of water because “You might need surgery and can’t have anything in your stomach”. So I laid there and moaned. Finally the orthopedic Dr. got me into X-ray, stabilized my swollen purple foot and I was checked into a room over 5 hours after the initial injury. Only then did they put me on a morphine drip for the pain. (What a glorious relief that was!)
Once I had surgery (metal plate and five screws to hold my heel together) and was back at home (over a week after the injury), they would only give me 2 days of pain meds at a time. So every other day I had to phone in my refill and then sit and worry whether the Dr. would actually get around to signing off so the pharmacy would dispense my couple of pills. Many times I would be sweating it out as the clock approached 5PM (when the doctor’s office closed) and my prescription hadn’t been filled yet. I dreaded spending the night with no medication to at least dull some of the intense pain.
So it sounds like things have circled back around to some of the practices of earlier days.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz BTW, not to be a Debbie Downer, but all this time later my mended heel bone fracture doesn’t give me all that much problem but I still limp from the accompanying major soft tissue damage and sprain.
@Kidsandliz @macromeh About 3 years ago, I tripped over a piece of cardboard we had across the door to my office to keep Walter from wandering around the house. Broke my ankle.
It was on a Thursday and the first appt I could get with the orthopedic dtr was on Monday so decided not to go to the ER (didn’t know it was broken but it hurt like hell). So I limped around the house the rest of the evening and even took a shower hoping it would be better the next day-it wasn’t. Spent next three days rolling around the house on my office chair.
Anyway the dtr said it was a clean break and lets put a boot on it and see how it mends and if we can avoid surgery. Two weeks late he x-rayed it again and said it was starting mend and doing so nicely.
Tried one of the legs scooters where you rest your knee on it-promptly fell off and bruised my tail bone. So it was a wheel chair for me as long as I wore the boot. But it all heeled nicely without surgery. Dtr told me that 8 out 10 dtrs would have probably done surgery right away, so I was one of the lucky ones. Recover time would have been the same either way.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz I was in a boot and on crutches for about 4 months after my surgery. And had 2 months of physical therapy.
My daughter was approaching 1 Y.O. and we joked about which one of us would walk first. I beat her, but not by much. My poor wife had to take care of 2 babies during my convalescence.
@Felton10 @macromeh I finally got someone to call me who phoned in decent pain meds. Of course I drove to Houston today so couldn’t take them. Yet. I forgot them in the car so now I get to hobble outside to get them.
macromeh - I had a boot from a biopsy that went south with infection, cellulitis, etc, in Dec. OMG my hip on the other side started to hurt big time. They never told me there is this thing called an “even-up” you can wear under your shoe on your other foot so your legs aren’t uneven. Then they made me wait until nearly April of this year for physical therapy to help fix the problem since they said that pain would probably go away on its own. Nope. PT was not happy they didn’t send me immediately. While that is much better than it was, it still isn’t back to normal and this fall messed up some of that.
Also BLAME - what the fuck is all those miles and miles and miles of I-10 construction bullshit? And I am not even talking about the crap that starts about 50 or 60 miles outside of Houston. I was incredibly stupid and when google said it was 43 minutes longer if I stayed on I-10 did I want to go another way that saved me that 43 min. Yup I took the bait. And so did probably half the people traveling west on I-10 (detour started in Louisiana and ended at Beaumont). Took nearly an hour longer than google estimated. Nope nope nope not taking that bait on the way back.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @macromeh
Sorry to hear that Texas infrastructure priorities are fucked up. Might have something to do with the folks they send to Austin and to Congress. Beto luck next time.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz One of the few bright spots of wearing the boot was that (after the initial severe pain and swelling subsided a bit) I found I could still work the clutch pedal of my Porsche. I got a lot of funny looks when I would pull into a handicap parking spot, but I had the official DMV placard and crutches to justify it.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @macromeh
I just yell at people “It’s mental!”
@Felton10 @macromeh @mike808 I just wish they had focused on a handful of miles at a time. Finish those, then move on to the next rather than have zillions of them in various stages of disrepair.
@Kidsandliz @macromeh @mike808 Maybe I missed an udate, but what finally happen with your leg? Did it get better by itself?
@Felton10 @macromeh @mike808 It is slowly healing - still swollen, still hurts, still bruised but better than it was. I finally, after making a stink, got somewhat better pain control.
Y’all better get busy!!! You only have just over a week to blame me before @kyeh becomes goat and gets all the blame!
@sillyheathen All I know is that you have gotten off pretty easy so far this month.
@sillyheathen Sez WHO???
@Kyeh Well since @sillyheathen is campaigning for you and potentially some others might do that as well you might find that you will win. I’d suggest going through old nomination threads and find folks who have repeatedly missed the bullet, ones who said they’d do it a different month… and post those and remind people of their past
transgressionshistory on the subject.I managed to escape goating for months, although in the end even posting a death certificate with forged meh signatures didn’t save me. Someone else, I forget whom at this point, was campaigning on various threads. The timing for me sucked as I was moving out of state that month and starting a new temporary job.
@Felton10 I thought so too!
@Kyeh oh you know it’s coming!
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @sillyheathen I think when the current GOAT pushes for your Goatom, it is pretty much a done deal.
@Kidsandliz @sillyheathen I know, I know - but that doesn’t mean I have to graciously acquiesce.
Actually, K&l, forging your own death certificate sounds like something that would guarantee goathood!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @sillyheathen
Well, Felton, you didn’t manage to get your chosen candidate goated immediately.
And of course you still haven’t gotten Walter goated. I know how you could do that …
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @sillyheathen I was new to this GOAT thing when I was Goated. I actually thought it was an honor. I leaned quickly.
Can’t figure out how to register Walter? Do I have to sign out first because I have tried and can’t do it with myself signed in.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh you wouldn’t really be a goat if you did!!!
@Kidsandliz @sillyheathen True, that would be more lamb-like behavior.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @sillyheathen
Change your username to Walter - because changing your name makes you re-goatable!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @sillyheathen
Changing your username won’t work. The badge and account info will remain the same.
You’ll need to logout, clear your cookies, and create new account with a different email.
Note that “Felton10@whatever” is treated as a different email from “Felton.10@whatever” and “Felton1.0@whatever”. The periods don’t matter.
Another option is to try an older email practice of using “+” and a suffix if your choosing, like “Felton10+walter@whatever”. Per the SMTP (email protocol) standard, mail servers are supposed to ignore periods in the adressee (the part before the “@” symbol) and everything after the “+” character.
Whether your email provider allows it is the question. So test it and see if it works and sends the email to the same place (your Felton10@whatever email) or not.
Some mail servers (and website email entry forms) might filter those because bad people abuse that to try to break mail servers and that is why we can’t have nice things on the Interwebs anymore.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @mike808 @sillyheathen For goating it doesn’t matter that the account info is the same. An easier way is just get a free yahoo or msn account and create a new account without credit card info, etc. for Walter using the same address. There are people who live at the same house who all have their own accounts on here.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @mike808 @sillyheathen

Blame - for the first time in my life I cracked my phone screen. The case cracked too so who know what would have happened if I didn’t have a good case on it. And because it is a phone discontinued nearly 5 years ago (iphone 5s) I can’t find anyone to fix it for me at a decent price which is weird since it is same size as the SE and so it shouldn’t be that different (cheaper to replace a screen for that than for my phone but I couldn’t get a rational explanation as to why). Sigh. I was hoping this thing would keep going a couple more years.
@Kidsandliz do you have insurance through your cell provider?
@tinamarie1974 No. I bought it used 5+ years ago and use a month to month card.
@Kidsandliz
A couple places to start for a used iPhone:
Swappa.com, SellCell.com, Gazelle.com, Decluttr.com, eBay.com, and Amazon.com.

Good luck and hunting on a deal.
@mike808 thanks
@Kidsandliz @mike808
Backmarket.com is a good source as well. The phone I bought my wife looked pristine and works wonderfully.
@chienfou @mike808 Thanks. At the moment I am just ignoring the problem because I need to deal with other issues that are time consuming however I will save these resources for when I have time to research a decent older, used iphone that is cheap. Hopefully my phone won’t totally crap out before then,
@Kidsandliz
FWIW her’s was a Samsung… I’m not an iPhone guy… I know they have them tho.
A quick check shows a 64gb iPhone 8 in excellent condition (no visible scratches from 8 inches…) starts about $179. a 256gb goes for about a c note more. 30 day money back / 12 month warranty.
@Kidsandliz I can’t remember where I got my iPhone SE when I replaced a 5s. My kids got theirs at a local reseller called Mobility Marketplace.
Not sure what kind of memory (is it still called RAM?) requirements you have for a phone, but Backmarket mentioned above still has unlocked iPhone 5s available for as little as $65; Gazelle has 1st gen iPhone SE for $100.
@chienfou @compunaut Yes I looked at the prices and was happy to see some were pretty cheap. I don’t care that they are old as I don’t use them as a primary way to go online - that is what I have a laptop for. I also have very few apps on mine as I use it primarily as a phone, text, take cheapo photos (I do wish the older ones had a better camera on them), to access my calendar, directions and on rare occasion check email or look up something on the internet. Oh and to play solitaire. As a result I can get by with an older phone with less storage.
I’m gonna blame you for June being a short month… Really… Just 30 days… What a load a bullshit!
Blame for my poor aloe plant. Plant was a baby from my mom’s aloe. It had grown pretty large. My neighbor took it for me while I was at my mom’s visiting - he has a ton of plants so I thought this would be safe. Nope. Gone 12 days. When I picked it up he said the soil was rock hard. He had poked around without asking me. He choose not to tell me he yanked the entire aloe off the roots completely and just tucked it back in the soil. It literally has no roots. I know it was doing well when I left it as it had 3 new baby leave sprouting less than 2ish inches high with one closer to 3 inches high. I read online that the odds of it surviving with no roots at all is slim to none. Shit. Your fault.
@Kidsandliz this is absolutely my fault however I can actually help with this. You want to take it out of the soil for a few days to let the base harden and dry some. Probably 2-3. No direct sun. After it hardens off a bit return it to the soil and keep it moist but not super wet or it will rot. It should be able to regenerate its root stock.
@sillyheathen Thanks. I’ll try that. He had just put it back in the soil, I don’t know when. I then put it back when it fell over when I was taking it back to my apt and didn’t know he had broken it off. Hopefully it hasn’t been in the dirt too long then. I don’t have direct sunlight anyway. My big problem is not enough light so I put it in the sink with the florescent light on and then build a wall around it to keep the cats away as aloe is poisonous to cats. I need a better solution but the new nazi owners made us take down ceiling plant hanger hooks. Now I have no safe place to put it near the window.
@Kidsandliz believe it or not it’s best if he didn’t keep it watered if he broke the stalk from the roots. Just let that sucker harden off a bit and it should be good to go so long as it isn’t too wet. I’ll see if I have any babies. The just divided three. I could probably just mail you one.
@sillyheathen I appreciate the offer however I was mostly keeping the plant because it came from my mom and it is a plant she has had for years and years. They are poisonous to cats and I have no really good place to put it in the apt anymore since the new owners outlawed ceiling hooks and made us take down the ones already up. Getting enough light is a problem now too. Twice one cat managed to get at it and there were tooth marks in the leaves. Fortunately I was home both times and intervened. Now I rig an avalanche for if they jump up there. That has worked so far (with a few avalanches which scared the shit out of the cats so they haven’t tried jumping up there in a whjile). I guess if it dies it dies and I’ll give the nice pot away.
@Kidsandliz that’s a bummer. Hopefully you can revive it and keep it away from the felines.
@sillyheathen I hope so too. How can I tell if it is dry enough on the bottom? I have had to cut off 2 leaves that are flattening and browning. All I have left is the 3 new leaves and one old one.
@Kidsandliz don’t cut anything else off unless it looks like rot damage but that occurs from overwatering. You just want it out to dry and callous for a few days. It’s going to look sad for a little bit but it can absolutely recover. They’re pretty resilient.
@sillyheathen Here is what it looks like. The only thing I cut off was leaves that were brown and flat at the base. The base seems pretty solid, only one tiny, tiny spot that is soft at all.
It’s sad though as I had over a dozen leaves, some more than a foot tall and now this is all that is left.
@Kidsandliz it looks like it has more than enough water to weather the storm until it has roots. Just lay it on a paper towel for a few days so it can callous over a bit.
@sillyheathen OK thanks. I’ll put in on a paper towel. I just have it on top of a jar lid out of cat reach.
@sillyheathen Well it isn’t dead yet and still looks like it has water in its leaves. The base is fairly hard, no mushy parts. Good enough to replant yet or should I still wait? And what should I do about watering once it is replanted? Thanks.
@Kidsandliz maybe post a picture. I would err on the side of caution and say wait one or two more days. I promise that won’t do anything but help it to callous a bit more. Then when you’re ready, put it in a pot probably a quart or gallon pot (based on the picture) with decent draining soil. I would say if it’s indoors make sure it’s watered once every 2-3 weeks. South or west facing window if possible.
@sillyheathen
The long leaf with the top cut off has a few small light, translucent brownish spots on it which it didn’t have before I left it with my neighbor but I have noticed them showing up a bit while it is sitting out of the dirt.
@Kidsandliz
I’d almost be tempted to cut some of that stalk off. It looks like water damage/rot. It would be easier to tell in person. I personally would consider cutting it at the lowest possible point that’s healthy and letting that callous. That still looks too wet if that makes any sense.
@Kidsandliz regardless I would leave it a few more days. It doesn’t look quite dry enough. I would also say that if you decide to go ahead now. Just put it in dry soil. I know it’s tempting to water it but I think you’ll encourage rot and not roots.
@sillyheathen I’ll leave it out as you suggest. And cut it. Thanks.
@sillyheathen So I cut it. Not at all mushy where I cut it and the knife had some resistance from the plant. Greener inside too. Hopefully that will help. So 3 more days out after cutting it?
@Kidsandliz yep 3-4 days on the paper towel away from the gatos!
@sillyheathen Thanks
@Kidsandliz wanted to see if you stuck it in dirt yet. It should be good to go.
@sillyheathen Yes put it in the dirt yesterday. So far not dead yet. While it is growing roots again how often do I water it? Thanks.
@Kidsandliz I’d wait at least a week. I’d only water once every other week possibly even 2-3 weeks until roots do their thing and then once every 1-2 weeks depending on how dry it is there. If it’s indoors probably err on the side of waiting longer.
@sillyheathen Thanks. It’s indoors. So how long does it take for roots to start to grow and to get enough roots?
@sillyheathen So I came home to find the plant (and the other 3 I have) are all yellow green and some of the leaves on the rootless one are flattened rather than full. All the soil for each of them was dry. I left them on the cat tree (north facing window) since the cats weren’t home) while I was gone. I left Saturday and was back really late Wedesday night. Soil on all of them was bone dry. So I watered.
Have I screwed up?
@Kidsandliz nope. Just don’t water too frequently. They will look terrible before they’re beautiful again. It’s just the process.
@sillyheathen Thanks. I was worried I was killing mom’s. What about the three I bought that were fine where I had them (on top of the fridge leaving the florescent light on all day) until I left them in the window (north facing is all I have) while I was at MD Anderson (gone 5 days)? Those three were fine prior to me being gone. Beautiful deep green, healthy looking and now they look as bad as mom’s one. Why would those three look look so horrible now? They had some direct sun as the window points out from the building like this < (in this case north would be to the right so they had some east and west light) . Too much sun?
@Kidsandliz doubtful. They love sun typically. Most succulents hate soggy wet feet. They typically thrive with drier conditions.
@sillyheathen That is odd then as the soil was totally bone dry when I got home.
@Kidsandliz @sillyheathen Actually, mine also fade in direct sunlight - they like to be in bright indirect light, but dry, dry, dry!!! This is a bunch of offshoots I took from a plant that was outgrowing its pot. They’ve been sitting in this tin for over a year with no water in the middle of a room, out of the sun.
I’m fascinated by them; I should plant them but I’m just so amazed that they keep living and being green!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen That is amazing - no water for a year.
Mine are off the cat tree - cats are back on it - and back on top of the fridge with their only real light the kitchen fluorescent light. Hopefully they will be green again soon.
@sillyheathen - so will all the leave with a ton of brown on them eventually turn green again or just the new ones will come in green? Nothing is dead yet but things look like a sorry mess.
Cocaine users, manufactures and dealers watch out. They can get you now with a fingerprint even if you have washed your hands. New use of an existing technology allows police, etc. tell if you have touched cocaine or have used cocaine just from one finger print, including finger prints they can pull from a crime scene. They can tell the difference between the two. Good luck in court with that kind of evidence now available. Best not touch anything anywhere if you are ever caught.

@Kidsandliz So is this a blame?
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh
I thought the same thing but I was lifting and didn’t know how to respond.
@Kyeh @sillyheathen I would imagine it is only a blame if you use, make, or sell cocaine. LOL I think it is an unblame as now more people who are guilty can be found guilty.
Actually I think it is interesting how our skin “tells on us” by what gets incorporated into our cells.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh It may be an insult and an accusatory one at that.
@Felton10 @Kyeh what is “an insult/accusatory one at that?”. If people are breaking the law, and fingerprints can provide evidence then why not use them?
@Felton10 @Kyeh
What I found interesting in that article was that our tissues take up compounds, stuff that you can’t wash off, that can then be identified from our fingerprints.
Hmm maybe my fingerprints will call me out as a liar when I claim I don’t eat too much post holiday discounted chocolate.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh
This is just another move by totalitarian state apparatchik (i.e. right-wing Christo-fascist Republican partisans) to bypass the 4th and 5th Amendments in one whack.
Next up, fingerprint detection for women taking birth control drugs or worse, who have ever taken “morning after” drugs like RU486 (because there is no statute of limitations on murder).
Or chemical residues indicating you voted incorrectly against the Republican party, in a newly legislated criminal act of civil disobedience.
Or worse, the final solution, your melanin levels exceed legal maximums.
What could possibly go wrong?
/image What, me worry?
@Felton10 @Kyeh @mike808 ??? It is a crime scene development when trying to figure out “who done it”. Not sure why this prompted political crap or the other comments. As I said, I found it interesting that our fingerprints can be used this way and that we excrete chemicals that show up in our finger prints.

@Kidsandliz
The problem is “crime scene” doesn’t have to be in any way related to why your fingerprint was there nor does it show any causal relationship with the “crime” related to the scene. Much like the “broken tail light” or “I smelled alchohol/weed” excuse used by police to routinely violate POC’s 4th and 5th amendment rights, while committing civil rights profiling, conspiracy, and perjury crimes themselves.
It sounds good (i.e. “for the children”), but make no mistake, the first and foremost use will be in furtherance of abuse by the state. Just like DNA profiling, warrantless phone/internet taps (more like dragnets/fishing expeditions).
Just because it may be possible, at some point, through technology, to detect every crime ever committed, regardless of how far in the past said crime occurred, does that mean it should be acceptable to do so as a society that still claims to value and respect the 4th and 5th Amendments?
It is said that every $100 bill in circulation (pre-2000) has measurable, detectable cocaine on it. Should that support prosecution of every fingerprint or residual DNA from anyone that ever touched it?
That’s the dystopia this technology leads to when it will inevitably be abused by the state, and the police in particular. No longer are they impartial observers collecting evidence to prosecute, but more importantly, evidence to exculpate the innocent, but active agents of the state exclusively for the prosecution. The burden of proof is no longer that of the state, and guilty until you prove your own innocence is the practical reality of that justice system.
@mike808
What you aren’t understanding is that the technology that picks up the cocaine, only picks up what is embedded IN the fingerprint material and not from the surface touched by the finger.
I guess then that you think that finger prints are never useful at a crime scene?
@Kidsandliz Not at all. I’m saying that the fingerprint establishes a person was present - not necessarily during the commission not the crime, or even having anything to do with the crime.
But you’re saying that while fishing for evidence of one crime, they can encounter potential evidence of some completely unrelated crime, by using this specialized tool to detect that unrelated crime, and that it is completely OK to just keep on expanding every investigation forever until every crime ever committed is prosecuted just because it can be detected by technology? That evidence exists doesn’t mean prosecutions are incapable of making their cases without the ability to collect all potential evidence. That’s not how the system works - not to ensure prosecutions are guaranteed success.
Why cocaine? Why not Oxycontin or heroin or hand sanitizer or RU486 or “personal body lubricants” or racial biometrics, or your political or religious affiliations?
If the crime scene is specifically a cocaine bust, then ok, but just what percentage of crime scenes would justify investing significant resources into what appears to be a one-trick pony solution in search of a problem. Unless it can be expanded to cover those other abuse of state power scenarios exactly I’ve described.
Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh Please explain “too much” chocolate.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @OldCatLady Hmm… I would suspect this is just a theoretical number put out there by some fake news authority and certainly whatever that number is, clearly I have never consumed that amount.
Besides I am careful to clean up my fingerprints by also consuming raspberries, blackberries and blueberries.
Since we have had a bunch of plant things on here, if you are in a hot humid climate here are the best strawberries to grow (this is from a study).
“Albion, Sweet Charlie, Camarosa, Camino Real, and Chandler—can grow well in Texas’ climate and have the best flavor and aroma.”.

Blame. Forums and today’s deal post were broke for like a half hour today.
@mike808 what can I say? I’m shite today! Workin on 3 hours of sleep.
@mike808 @sillyheathen
Yikes! Go to sleep!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen
I think you meant “Go The Fuck To Sleep!”.
@Kyeh @mike808 it was a rough one yesterday! And I actually have that book Kyeh. I read it to the kids when they were babies and I was sleep deprived.
@mike808 @sillyheathen So now read it and SLEEP!
Sorry you had a tough day - blame that goat.
@Kyeh @mike808 I think that’s why I couldn’t sleep……I kept blaming myself!
@mike808 @sillyheathen Oh, no. Well, here’s an unblame - I just got money for having been at my job for many years! They reward us on our "significant " anniversary years 5,10,15,etc. I wasn’t sure it was happening anymore after the lean budget of the 2020 Covid year, but they came through - woohoo!
@Kyeh @mike808 that’s an I blame I’ll happily accept!
Unblame!
@Kyeh @mike808 @sillyheathen Aren’t you going to tell us how much you got and what you are doing to do with your windfall?
@Felton10 @mike808 @sillyheathen No!
(It’s not that much, but nice to get acknowledged.)
Blame-tried to pick up an inexpensive smartphone during prime day to upgrade my 2 year old phone. Amazon had some good discounts on samsung galaxy phones. But found out that the lower priced $ 385 (Reg $ 599) samsung phones didn’t support 5G on the Verizon network. Cheapest phone they had on sale was the $ 699 one (Reg $ 999) that was compatible with Verizon 5 G.
@Felton10 that’s a start but you can do better! I have faith in you. Also I’m sorry they’re capitalistic monsters!
@sillyheathen Its not the biggest disaster in the world as I don’t walk around carrying the phone like some people do. Use it to take pictures of Walter and my IRKs mostly.
@Felton10 @sillyheathen Well if you stopped trying for irks then that would solve half the problem
@Kidsandliz @sillyheathen Have never gotten an IRK on my phone only take pictures of them with it.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @sillyheathen
See post below about K&L phone problem.
I recently bought a ‘used’ phone for the wife that was pristine on arrival.
Unblame. Won the daily shuffle for a RTX 3090.
Blame. Newegg lowered the price by $100 after I bought mine under their artificial time-pressured shuffle deal.
@mike808 I’m pretty sure you’re my final blame for June! And fuck those guys! Tell them they owe you $100!
@mike808
/giphy give me my money back!
Blame!
Juneteenth brings to mind:
There are those who celebrate the end of slavery (at least the obvious kind that has stained our country’s history) and there are those that through their purchases support the corporations and countries that enable the ongoing kind that is mostly swept under the rug.

Do you think of such things when you buy your instant chocolate, your coffee creamer, your dog food? (See Wikipedia on Ne$tle’s controversies.)
Do you think of the ethnic Uyghurs when you buy your athletic shoes or cheap Chinese trinkets? (Sorry, Meh.)
So, which person are you? Being both is to live in denial.

I’m going to go with ummmmmm

@sillyheathen I don’t know what that is, but it could be underwear I throw away.
