Contest: A Hairy Situation

It’s our 10th Birthday. I was trying to think of something that a 10-year old would like to do on their birthday, and honestly, getting a tattoo felt inappropriate. So here it is. This year’s challenge.
Go get a mohawk cut. If you provide a photo of yourself with a fresh mohawk cut with proof of date, we’ll send you a fun prize.
Bonus points. Get it dyed Irk color. The Irk Colored mohawk will come with an additional bonus prize.
You have until Monday Morning at 10am Central to post your photo. I can’t announce the prize yet, but it’ll be good. Not Lifetime Irks, but Mohawks go away.
And don’t say I didn’t warn you.

@ChadP @mbersiam And you’ve probably got at least a year’s worth of maintenance in what would have to come off, which means a year of looking weird while it gets back to where it is now. Yeah, hard pass. We aren’t rebellious 14-year-olds anymore. (We’re cantankerous late-adult clandestine revolutionaries now.)
@ChadP @mbersiam @werehatrack I would be more worried about the outside the home consequences. I can promise he’ll still want to sleep with you. May make spooning easier. No hair in the face. And I’m sure you could convince him that’s still a good idea other ways

So tempted, but the top of my hair is way too short for a mohawk right now. I went a little nuts with the scissors last week.
Normally I would be all-in, it is only hair and grows back. However, I am job hunting and think this hairstyle may hinder me in the interview process…it shouldn’t, but it will. Good luck to all you crazy Mehtizens that go for it!!

It would be pointless for me to try, the results would not be recognizable as the target hairstyle.
I messed up, had been putting my haircut off, but finally did it last week.
I don’t have any hair. 6 days isn’t enough time to grow some. Can I glue hair to my head instead?

@capguncowboy Cut a patch of artificial turf to shape, or trim some fake broom grass from a craft shop.

@milstarr but if you kept the Mohawk long, and parted it down the middle, it might hardly look like you cut it. Unless the wind blew. Then it would definitely be noticeable.

Hair that length takes WAY too long to get there and care for…it would take a lot more than a surprise prize for me to cut my beyond shoulder length hair into a Mohawk. Not to mention I couldn’t pull it off anyway, and would look just plain stupid.

My hair is long enough to make a modest ’hawk, but I have never wanted to live with my head even remotely shaved.

Very tempting. Including the color. I have been thinking about cutting it short again and donating the rest. But last time I got my cut my hair really short, people thought I had cancer. One person offered me a wig!

@ChadP I don’t know if this will qualify…I don’t really have the length to give a mohawk justice, and apparently don’t have the ideal gravity defying styling products lol, but this is what I’m working with
. No Irk color either (yet… Maybe I’ll find some).
Now to go thoroughly embarrass and traumatized my teen/preteen children! Schools out so what’s the next most embarrassing place for a cringe dad to display peacockness with my kids in tow

@scilynt @werehatrack Semi-permanent means it’s going to stay for a while though. That stuff I suggested washes out the first time.
@Kyeh @scilynt Prudence dictates the use of yours, no contest. But the allure of being able to say that the color is “Purple AF” has a strong pull in some circles. The decision is, of course, left to the person with the hair. I can only make suggestions.
@Kyeh @scilynt @werehatrack please do not do the krylon. God knows what chemicals are in there and what they would do to you. I mean your an adult and all, just its not a great idea.
@kyeh is right about the semi-perminant stuff from sallys. I did my nieces hair blue with it and it never washed out, it finally grew out. It really binds on lighter shaded hair. I should add I even tried washing it out w Dawn (suggested by my stylist) and it just lightened the shade a bit.

I’m thinking you could just dye the tips, that would look kinda cool! No worries about chemicals touching your scalp.
@scilynt You need to take the kids somewhere that their friends might be. When they might be there.
Back when my kid was a teen and going to the mall to hang out was a thing, when we’d go to go shopping she’d want me to walk around 10 feet behind her so people wouldn’t know she had her mother with her. I reminded her that a stranger wouldn’t know we were mother and daughter (she is adopted from Cambodia). She stated, in that tone of voice teens are so good at, “I’d know”.
So I went and shaved the back and sides… the purple only really took to the greys. What can I say, I’m old. But the darker area are in fact dark purple.
