@Thumperchick I think I'll leave this thread with a song. "Salmon chanted evening... you may see a sturgeon..." Lemme know if you're not herring this in your head
Super tiny. There are animals that would be happy in there, but not many, and definitely NOT a beginner's setup. If you want a betta and have a warm room, this would be ok. For cooler water shrimp, it would be great. For anything else...death trap unless you know what you're doing.
@futaira@KDemo sea monkeys, maybe...But a goldfish should get to be 10+ inches at a minimum, even the fancy varieties. the 5 gallon might work to quarantine a new purchase, but definitely not a long term option.
@futaira goldfish poo out tons of ammonia, about twice most fish. they also grow to the limit of their enclosure and will soon be too big. a little catfish would be ok. goldfish are just trouble.
@the_inevitable Corydoras splendens, which get to be 3-3.5 inch TL fish and need to be in a group of 6+ to really thrive. Sorry, but no, I'm not going to say they're really suitable for a 5 gallon tank.
@the_inevitable It isn't fancy, it's just more accurate. They live in groups of 100+ individuals in the wild, and I've yet to see anyone suggest less than a group of 6.
@Mavyn White cloud minnows might work, but they also like to be in a group. Maybe a Betta? There are some smaller Cichlids (Kribensis, Ram) that would like this size assuming you had a heater, but none of them are what I would call beginner fish. A trio of fancy guppies would also work but you'd have to have a plan for the babies
Didn't expect to see an aquarium (fish bowl) on Meh.
It's interesting, but if we're going to be buying pet stuff, how about cat toys? Who knows how many warehouses full of crappy laser pointers there are out there.
This is too small for healthy fish / humane conditions. The article linked from the description about fish varieties seems well balanced. They have 5 gal (20L) as marginally acceptable and 10 gal as a realistic minimum.
From my fish keeping experience, it will be possible but hard to keep healthy, happy fish in a 10 gal aquarium; it seems I'm mostly in agreement with the article.
The small size here (5L) is inhumane in my book, and the 10L size very borderline.
@bdb Cut him a break he typed out the last part wrong but was correct in the referral of the 20 liter tank being 5 gallons and barely marginal. I once had fish in the 10 liter tank but a different style and it was impossible to keep clean and fish healthy long term. The 5 gallon is good for a pair of fish max health wise.
@khunjeff If you hum the tune of "knife is for cutting" it fits quite nicely.... Too big for drinking.... Too small for swimming... take a fishy and put it into the thing.... bowl is for fishy!
@choral_music Step 1. Drop iPod into water-filled tank. Step 2. Use plastic-wrap to seal. Step 3. Drop from 7 feet to hard floor to begin vacuuming process.
Already got a competitor kit, hardly use.. The fish don't last long enough to mature, go out and get a job and help me pay my utilities.. Useless water breathers eating me out of house and bowl.. Big Meh!
@ceagee My sister has some fish tanks, not these ones but similar, which she now refers to as the "Cat TV." But she also calls squirrels "tree kittens" so she is probably just crazy.
I'm considering this, would like to have a little beta buddy in my office. I'm wondering how loud the pump is though. The bubbling isn't too annoying, but sometimes those pumps give off a constant ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR that could instigate a schizophrenic episode if I'm exposed too long.
I had an 80 gallon saltwater tank once. Power went out when i was gone, check valve failed between pump and tank, siphon was created, and I had 80 gallons of saltwater on my carpet and dead fish in my tank.
@ChadP@dashcloud when someone asks where the fish are just act all surprised and panicky. Then start looking under the furniture and calling their names.
Wait. The write up says this will be good for me before my soul dies. I thought my soul was the only part of me that would live on after death. ARE YOU TELLING ME MY SOUL IS GOING TO DIE, TOO?! I was not prepared for this. Thanks MEH.COM! I'm going to go buy that really sleek AMC Gremlin tonight. All my wildest dreams will come true. YOLO!!!!!!!
@JerseyFrank Not that my personal opinion matters much online, but I believe that they are totally inhumane, personally. Not to go all treehugger hippy animal lover on you, but it's been proven that fish are sentient and conscious, just like other animals and, well, people. If you don't care about the actual fish, then know that when you keep them in a too-small place, they're more likely to die, which is an inconvenience and also makes children cry. http://thegoldfishtank.com/do-goldfish-need-a-big-tank/
@JerseyFrank Goldfish get to be the size of a football and when cared for properly, live 20+ years. So, shoving them into a bowl that stunts their growth and shortens their lifespan by more than 75% isn't really good care. Kind of like buying a kitten, and having it live to 3 years in a tiny box.
@Mavyn@djkittn Are there fish that are appropriate for this size bowl? An 8 year old will be caring for the fish with some supervision; though said supervisor doesn't lose sleep over the treatment of goldfish, but cares about teaching responsibility.
@JerseyFrank The 5 gallon one will give more options. As for an 8 yo taking care of it...Depends on the kid. My 7 yo LOVES fish and is good about feeding them, loves to watch them, and can help with water changes under supervision. I'd say a betta and some cherry shrimp would be fine. It says there is an integrated filter, so I'm guessing there is a sponge inside the rock that the air goes through to create flow and be colonized with the needed beneficial bacteria. With care, yes, it could work. Are you in New Jersey? If so...There are several aquarium clubs that would LOVE to help a kid get into the hobby.
@JerseyFrank Mavyn gave some good recommendations. I have to defer as to what is safe to keep in these setups. I would personally avoid the smaller size for any fish, though. In addition to setting an example of responsibility (that comes from you, not a pet, after all) you have the opportunity to teach about fairness and compassion just by tweaking your plans. Thank you for considering it!
Where was this when my kids goldfish wouldn't die? Advice: If your kids win a goldfish (or 3) at a fair, and they are alive a week later....buy a real fish bowl. Ours lasted 10 years.
Maybe it is my penchant for ichthyosadism, or perhaps something else I've not tapped into in my psyche, but I couldn't myself help from grabbing the big black one. #phrasing
The 5 gallon (20L) version of this is actually perfect for a school of 6 or so white clouds. White clouds can be kept in even smaller tanks. I had 6 in a 3 gallon tank and a few floating plants. A year later I had 20 or so without even trying. White clouds do great at slightly lower temps also (mid 60's-low 70s), so you probably don't need a heater for them. There are also lots of smaller nano fish becoming popular recently (i.e. Galaxy Rasbora). A school of 6-8 of them would do well in the 20L tank, but I wouldn't recommend them for a beginner as they are 1) more expensive 2) not as hardy and 3) need a heater. Another possibility are Endler livebearers, which are colorful and very similar to guppies except even smaller.
@Kevin I'm all for completing wonderfully annoying tasks for the sake of the community, but we're not really set up for something like that yet - though I would like to do some streaming stuff in the future.
So why is it that items like this never show you where the electrical cord attaches and how big it is in comparison to something common like a 12oz. can or 2L. soda bottle?

Cool price, too bad there are no reviews. Meh!
@Stallion do you mean meh?
@kdyzol Was trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it's a Meh.
@Stallion Heres a review: "Holds water, objects and fish. Keeps things alive."
@mzoltek It'll keep hardly anything suitably alive without a filtration system.
@molfsontan you'll hardly suitably keep anything alive without a filtration system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@mzoltek Or the other side of it could be "Filter sucks, hard to change water, better off with a goldfish bowl"
Meh
Seems awfully...fishy.
@studerc seeing what you did there. i am.
@studerc Not bad, cod do batter
@Dahveed tilapia the mornin to ya
@Dahveed replying just for the halibut
@nadroj These puns are making me eel
@studerc Don't be so shellfish.
@heartny you're awfully crabby.
@studerc Clam up, all you landlubbers..
@heartny hey, I'm your friend, not anemone
@choral_music Anchovies.
@TimePollution - No Anchovies, Please -
@choral_music dolphinately friends, not food.
@studerc Salmon these are just awful.
@studerc I once had a pet fish, but I lobster. A week later I flounder.
@studerc Water you mean by that?
@rockblossom Don't be so salty.
I was almost hooked.
@1wally1 I would post more puns, but honestly, what's the porpoise?
@choral_music Just fishing for laughs.
Goby with your friends! See if I care!
@Thumperchick if we laugh, it's a fluke
@studerc If you find a better fish pun…let minnow
@tdandar Yep - I think I've run out of puns. Oh whale.
@studerc I agree, it's a load of carp.
@choral_music Hey, tuna round and let me see that bass.
@jsh139 Back on topic, I went to buy another mug yesterday, but they had already sold trout. :-(
@ChadP I sea what you did there.
@choral_music Too bad they didn't have any moray!
@DeuceSevin This thread is still going? This scampi happening.
@choral_music Eh, to be fair though, I'm as gillty as anyone else for allowing this to continue.
This whole silly topic is beginning to flounder.
@1wally1 Yeah - with all the puns in here, any more is just overkrill.
@choral_music whale whale whale, what do we have here?
@Thumperchick I think I'll leave this thread with a song. "Salmon chanted evening... you may see a sturgeon..." Lemme know if you're not herring this in your head
Who in gods name would buy this?
@xEBRONx People who care deeply about animals. And appearances.
@ChadP like Texas, apparently.
@xEBRONx poseidon
한국시간으로 오후1시에 변경되기에
겁나 새로고침 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
오옷!! 이거 한국까지 배송하면.. 파손이 염려되네요..
음... 포장 패키지 사진이 궁금하네요;;
프리볼트인가요??
@sherryblue I am concerned if it arrives broken. do you have a picture of packaging? and whats the power input? 110? 220?
Sushi on the hoof.
Meh. If this came with water, I'd totally get it.
@joshaw cause it would be Texas water?
@eeterrific Texas water has to be better than Texas air.
This looks hard to cook fish in. Would rather buy a pot. Therefore -» Meh
Not even my kitty is tempted.
Super tiny. There are animals that would be happy in there, but not many, and definitely NOT a beginner's setup. If you want a betta and have a warm room, this would be ok. For cooler water shrimp, it would be great. For anything else...death trap unless you know what you're doing.
:/
@Mavyn sure. just drop "death trap" like it's no big deal. sheesh. :)
@Mavyn Death trap, you say? I guess I DO need one.
@Mavyn - Perfect for Sea Monkeys!
@Mavyn maybe a single gold fish with frequent water changes? meh.
@futaira @KDemo sea monkeys, maybe...But a goldfish should get to be 10+ inches at a minimum, even the fancy varieties. the 5 gallon might work to quarantine a new purchase, but definitely not a long term option.
@futaira goldfish poo out tons of ammonia, about twice most fish. they also grow to the limit of their enclosure and will soon be too big. a little catfish would be ok. goldfish are just trouble.
@the_inevitable What catfish are you recommending?
@Mavyn I really like the emerald catfish. Get a few, they like to hang out.
@the_inevitable Corydoras splendens, which get to be 3-3.5 inch TL fish and need to be in a group of 6+ to really thrive. Sorry, but no, I'm not going to say they're really suitable for a 5 gallon tank.
@Mavyn oh my! is that LATIN? they're fine in a group of a few. they grow very slowly.
@the_inevitable It isn't fancy, it's just more accurate. They live in groups of 100+ individuals in the wild, and I've yet to see anyone suggest less than a group of 6.
@Mavyn White cloud minnows might work, but they also like to be in a group. Maybe a Betta? Didn't expect to see an aquarium (fish bowl) on Meh.
It's interesting, but if we're going to be buying pet stuff, how about cat toys? Who knows how many warehouses full of crappy laser pointers there are out there.
Maybe if it would fit in office microwave for cleaning?
This is too small for healthy fish / humane conditions. The article linked from the description about fish varieties seems well balanced. They have 5 gal (20L) as marginally acceptable and 10 gal as a realistic minimum.

The small size here (5L) is inhumane in my book, and the 10L size very borderline.
@bdb Correction: The sizes here are 10L and 20L, not 5 and 10.
@bdb No 5L being offered. 10L and 20L.
@Collin1000 well done, speed ninja.
@bdb the small size is 10L and the medium is 20L. Are we even looking at the same items here?
@bdb Cut him a break he typed out the last part wrong but was correct in the referral of the 20 liter tank being 5 gallons and barely marginal. I once had fish in the 10 liter tank but a different style and it was impossible to keep clean and fish healthy long term. The 5 gallon is good for a pair of fish max health wise.
@bdb of course it's inhumane, they are fish not humans...
@Outofmymind Thank you. I did indeed typo the last sentence. You are right - it should have been 10 liter and 20 liter.
@tightwad OK, that was funny.
Too big for drinking, too small for swimming
@khunjeff
@khunjeff If you hum the tune of "knife is for cutting" it fits quite nicely.... Too big for drinking.... Too small for swimming... take a fishy and put it into the thing.... bowl is for fishy!
VMP, Go fish.
Is it Liter, or Litre? Who gives a meh!
Where do I plug in my iPod? Where's the autoseal lid? Does it vacuum my floor? Meh.
@choral_music Step 1. Drop iPod into water-filled tank. Step 2. Use plastic-wrap to seal. Step 3. Drop from 7 feet to hard floor to begin vacuuming process.
Meh: "Bring some life to your sterile cubicle before your soul dies"
Meh - h: Huh? Thankfully, I've left the soul-robbing corporate world, but my cubicle was hardly sterile. I ate lunch there.
Already got a competitor kit, hardly use.. The fish don't last long enough to mature, go out and get a job and help me pay my utilities.. Useless water breathers eating me out of house and bowl.. Big Meh!
How would this work with a Sansa?
@eeterrific Probably as good as it would work with a Mac.
It doesn't look cat proof.
@ceagee It is kinda. The larger one will be more resistant due to weight but both have tops/lids whatever.
@ceagee My sister has some fish tanks, not these ones but similar, which she now refers to as the "Cat TV." But she also calls squirrels "tree kittens" so she is probably just crazy.
must meh. no desire for fish.
@sleepyjoey add a flashing red light and you can induce epileptic seizures at the same time!
I had an 80 gallon saltwater tank once. Power went out when i was gone, check valve failed between pump and tank, siphon was created, and I had 80 gallons of saltwater on my carpet and dead fish in my tank.
@commodog Ouch...
@commodog On the other hand, dinner was an easy prepare that evening. Sushi for all!
Was going to buy this, then saw I needed to put real fish into it.
@dashcloud you don't actually need to. It can just be a delightful water feature.
@ChadP @dashcloud when someone asks where the fish are just act all surprised and panicky. Then start looking under the furniture and calling their names.
Can I use my Bluetooth Home Connect Audio Receiver to give my fish music to swim to?
If this was one of those nicer Fluval brand tanks I'd probably buy it.
YOLO!!!!!!!
@umbrellacorp Bet this would fit tons of fishies.
@denboy you know what happens when a gremlin gets wet?
@nadroj It morphs into a badass car that takes over the roads and takes no prisoners.......or it rusts.
Hold up, y'all are saying that a goldfish in a bowl is inhumane? I may have to modify a promise I made recently to a certain little one...
@JerseyFrank Not that my personal opinion matters much online, but I believe that they are totally inhumane, personally. Not to go all treehugger hippy animal lover on you, but it's been proven that fish are sentient and conscious, just like other animals and, well, people. @smilingjack With proper care and handling, a real fish bowl should last much longer than 10 years. ;)
Meh.
I don't really like fish.
@atherrien95 Then this tank is perfect for you.
@DeuceSevin how so?
Maybe it is my penchant for ichthyosadism, or perhaps something else I've not tapped into in my psyche, but I couldn't myself help from grabbing the big black one. #phrasing
@CraigDanger
I really wanted to buy something today.
Looked at Woot, looked at Meh............
Looks like meh to both.
do not want
@unixrab You touched the butt!
@Thumperchick ... I touched meh.com PS how many days since I wanted something :-)
And, just clicked the links in the write up (I'm slow). HA! Thanks, @JasonToon. I feel all famous now and stuff.
meanwhile over at home.woot ... another paypal transaction has taken place...
every time you use paypal, God kills a kitten
@nadroj nice! Convenient AND I don't care for cats
@unixrab Alf loves cats!

@nemo2005 And then I back up to them?
I got one of these, polished it up carefully, and held it up to my ear. I heard a pod of dolphins saying "Meh."
@writdenied So long and thanks for all the fish.
@jont should set one of these up and share it with all of us via live stream. It'd make for a wonderfully annoying task for him!
@Kevin I'm all for completing wonderfully annoying tasks for the sake of the community, but we're not really set up for something like that yet - though I would like to do some streaming stuff in the future.
Translation: @JonT has to learn to seamlessly loop the live stream in case he kills the fish
I can hardly wait to see what Meh has planned for midnite. It will be hard indeed to outMeh this in a Two-fer-Tuesday...but I have faith.
I would get this, but I have "commitment" issues.
@Fish_Kungfu I've been committed, it's not any fun. Wait,,, that was admitted, but it felt like I was committed. It still wasn't any fun.
