@Kyeh@Lynnerizer@PooltoyWolf yeah, but were you using those old school (water tight) styrofoam coolers? these bags usually are somewhere between “weeping” and “leaking like a sieve” because of the seams.
fwiw - Coleman site says this has " antimicrobial leakproof liner "
and " interior heat-welded seams prevent leaks"
@Kyeh@Lynnerizer@PooltoyWolf somehow, that does not surprise me. the only cloth cooler w/ plasticky liner I have that does not leak has an insert that looks like a plastic garbage can. THAT holds water, lol.
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf
Sure, why not? When you bring it to wherever you’re going the ice is still frozen and by the time you leave your going to empty out the meltdown/water so it’s not heavy. I wasn’t giving thought to the fact that it might leak. I’d be THAT person to soak my beach blanket or something else more important. In other words, I’d be THAT one, standing there looking pretty stupid! Lol Gosh, what would I give to be young again…
@Kyeh
Yeah, that’s a lot!
I was thinking it might be nice for my mom to carry her delicious homemade chili (that I survive on) down to my house but the canvas itself is already such a heavy material that she’s got better choices. Oh well…
@Kyeh yeah I was thinking the same thing. I once hauled a case of beer with one bag of ice in a cheap cooler from the furthest parking spot at an outdoor concert venue to the top of the hill where all my friends were. Switching it back & forth from one shoulder to the other when the pain got to great.
Both my shoulders were sore the next day. It’s my fault for having to work late, my friends had been there for hours.
As I remember we were there for the Moody Blues. It was likely under $10 a ticket, the venue is called Pine Knob. You could bring in all the food & beverages you could carry. No more, you can bring all the beverages you can hide in your waistband. & you buy their food.
Now days I don’t need a case of beer, so this bag is fine. But we already have a better one so I’m not dropping $30 on this one.
@Kyeh You can carry these bags across your neck too, but that’s not recommended.
(Well, I carry them that way – I hold the bag off one shoulder like a purse, then sling it across my flanks and thread my other arm behind the strap, almost like a bookbag – the connecting strap goes across my shoulders and against my neck. For small messenger bags with light payloads, this pulls them closer to your body and doesn’t put too much stress on your neck.)
@Kyeh@pakopako back when I used to fly a lot for work, Had a really heavy shoulder bag with vintage laptop. Portland airport (PDX) was doing a terminal remodel so it was a long walk the gate. Seemed like 1/4 mi, not sure what it really was. I started having shoulder and neck pain, and figured out it was the side I usually carried the bag. Yeah, don’t do that!
By the way, 25 years later 1st phase of PDX remodel is complete and it is amazing! If you get a chance, worth traveling to. Just to see the terminal, but might want to visit Mt Hood or beaches.
@Kyeh@Lynnerizer yeah they would come around most every summer. Our summer concert series usually included The Moody Blues, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers, Chicago, the Allman Brothers Band, & a whole lot more. On a whim I drove a new girlfriend up there in my POS car (1972 Celica) to see The Blues Brothers, what a blast that was! I was quite surprised my car made it there & back. Concerts were much more affordable in those days.
@Joedetroit@Kyeh
You were lucky, those are some of best, James Taylor is another favorite, and I just discovered Harry Chapin as well as the ones you mentioned. Heck, I was probably around 10 or 11 and just discovering good music! I’m curious, since Toyotas last FOREVER and your 1972 Celica was already a POS what year was it?
@Kyeh 1972 might have been before Toyota actually got their feet under them. The Blues Brother’s concert was July 1980. The car was totally rusted out. What I learned with that car was that motor mounts are important. The engine was shaking around so much that it was basically falling apart. Oil leaks everywhere. If I had fixed the motor mounts that car mighta lasted a bit longer. By the early 80s Celicas & other Toyota models were much better. But they still rusted out, at least in Michigan.
@Kyeh@Lynnerizer 3 cars!?! I went through 3 cars in one year before! Okay just a smallish exaggeration. I’ve had a lot of cars though, 15 or so & yes I just counted them up in my head. 6 of them were 3 year leases though.
@Joedetroit@Kyeh
Lol…
I reacted the same way the first time I heard Kyeh only had 3 cars. I’m with YOU, 3 cars in one year might’ve happened once or twice throughout the, years!
Embarrassment YES, exaggeration NO! 🫣
@lichen yeah, the 7x12 had me worried, but a gallon jug of milk is ~10 or 11 inches tall and not quite 6 inches square, so it should go in fine w/ a few cartons of ice cream.
@lichen I have some cooler similiar to this that I got in an irk I keep in the car just for this. Doesn’t hold a lot but at least my ice cream usually makes it home unmelted. It is better than the insulated shopping bags you can buy in Walmart, Trader Joes, etc. when it comes to keeping stuff colder, I presume because the insulation is thicker and it’s a bit more air tight. Of course when it starts out in the bag 140 degrees or higher because it has been left in the car 24/7 that doesn’t help but I’d forget to bring it each time I went to the grocery store if I left it in my apartment.

Are those fake ice cubes?
@PooltoyWolf That IS weird! Can you imagine just loading up your cooler with loose ice cubes?!?
@Kyeh And not even those ones you freeze like ice packs!
@PooltoyWolf I guess people do it in chest coolers but putting them in a bag seems weird.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf
That’s how we used to do it when going to the beach. IMO the ice water keeps everything even colder.
@Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf
In a tote, though?
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf Air is a poor conductor of heat. Icy water does a much better job.
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf yeah, but were you using those old school (water tight) styrofoam coolers? these bags usually are somewhere between “weeping” and “leaking like a sieve” because of the seams.
fwiw - Coleman site says this has " antimicrobial leakproof liner "

@ekw @Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf But the reviews on Amazon have quite a few complaints about leaks.
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer @PooltoyWolf somehow, that does not surprise me. the only cloth cooler w/ plasticky liner I have that does not leak has an insert that looks like a plastic garbage can. THAT holds water, lol.

“Tote that barge
Lift that bale”
No.
Tote those cans.
Lift that cooler bag.
A hard life redefined?
30 cans of 12 oz. soda = 22.5 lbs. Plus ice? I wouldn’t want to sling that over one shoulder.
@Kyeh
Yeah, that’s a lot!
I was thinking it might be nice for my mom to carry her delicious homemade chili (that I survive on) down to my house but the canvas itself is already such a heavy material that she’s got better choices. Oh well…
@Kyeh That’s what the help is for.
@Kyeh yeah I was thinking the same thing. @Joedetroit eyyy Pine Knob! I’m so glad they changed the name back. Everyone just called it that anyway.
@heyitslauren yeah that corporate name was to hard to say anyhow. Pine freakin KNOB, thanks.
@heyitslauren @Joedetroit What name did they try to change it to? I hate the dumb corporate sponsor names.
@Joedetroit @Kyeh DTE Energy Music Theatre
@heyitslauren @Joedetroit Ugh. Really rolls off the tongue.

Oh yeah, almost forgot the Therapy Llamas. Which apparently protect goats, so I’m in for that.

@Joedetroit @Kyeh
What a great concert that must’ve been, that’s one I’ve never seen. I love the Moody Blues!
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer yeah they would come around most every summer. @Joedetroit It was @lynnerizer asking about the car .
I’ve only had 3 cars in my life; it’s such a dry climate here in CO that rust isn’t a problem!
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer 3 cars!?! I went through 3 cars in one year before! Okay just a smallish exaggeration. I’ve had a lot of cars though, 15 or so & yes I just counted them up in my head. 6 of them were 3 year leases though.
@Joedetroit @Lynnerizer I don’t drive a whole lot. My current car (the only one I got brand new) is 12 years old and has 16,338 miles on it.
@Joedetroit @Kyeh
Lol…
I reacted the same way the first time I heard Kyeh only had 3 cars. I’m with YOU, 3 cars in one year might’ve happened once or twice throughout the, years!

Seems like this would be good to get the cold grocery items home in the summer, without them getting warm.
@lichen yeah, the 7x12 had me worried, but a gallon jug of milk is ~10 or 11 inches tall and not quite 6 inches square, so it should go in fine w/ a few cartons of ice cream.
@lichen but those are exterior measurements, so, less space than that on the inside, of course.
@lichen I have some cooler similiar to this that I got in an irk I keep in the car just for this. Doesn’t hold a lot but at least my ice cream usually makes it home unmelted. @Kidsandliz if you chuck your insulated bags under the cart and take them in the store they have time to cool down before you use them.
Mmmmm, hotdog juice!
I could probably fit at least one big cat or maybe even two small cats in this bag.
@steelopus Just be careful to not let them out of it too soon.
@steelopus Schrödinger? Is that you?
Apparently, no way to know. Love physicists but was always worried about the cat.
P.S. extra credit for physics joke and finding the umlaut trick.
