Christmas Trees
4Sorry to bring up Christmas before Thanksgiving - I hate when advertisers do it, and hate it even more when I see Christmas stuff before Halloween! But I’m interested in ordering a live tree online this year and it seems now is the time to get those orders in.
So has anyone done this? I’m interested to find out if anyone has a place that they would absolutely recommend. Or, I guess, absolutely NOT recommend due to first-hand experiences.

Like a live living tree or an ex-live tree?
Oops, wrong word. A fresh-cut tree, as opposed to an artificial tree. So I guess an ex-live tree, but recently ex-live.
@pitamuffin A recently deceased tree. Got it. I can’t help you there. Sorry.
We’ve grown our own the last 20 yrs. Mostly Grand Fir. We only have a few left, then we’ll go fake I think…
I didn’t know they shipped real trees!
There was actually a Groupon recently for a fresh-cut fir tree delivery service - in Charleston.
LED with fiber optic needles!

@medz We used a small one of those at work for years (got a large ‘normal’ artificial now so no more fiber optic) and I have a 2’ one upstairs at home just so there is some Christmas decor up there. They don’t work too well with actual decorations, garland, etc but I’ve always liked the look in small scale, and they make pretty patterns on the walls behind them.
@medz I have one of those! I do like @duodec and use it in another room for decoration there, not as the main tree.
@pitamuffin ours is like 5’6". Not quite big enough, so we set it on an end table. More room for presents underneath! The branches do lack in strength for holding large ornaments.
Mind telling us why you don’t want to pick one out at a store/farm?
I buy my trees at Lowe’s because the local tree farms want 2-3x the price.
I just can’t imagine not looking at my tree before I buy it.
@RiotDemon +1
To me, that’s like trusting the grocery store monkeys to pick out my produce. But it does sound incredibly convenient.
I grew up in an artificial tree family. Many, many, nice memories of setting the tree up each year.
I’m not so fond of that crappy pine smell spray Mom used for awhile…that was a little TOO artificial.
We used to have one of those aluminum trees as well for the front window. Fancy! It had it’s own spot light!
@therealjrn Here’s a pic of our tree when I was a kid. I’m the handsome one… The tree had a loud color wheel under it. Just the sound of a straining little motor brings tear to my eyes now… lol
@daveinwarsh
THAT’s the tree! And may I say, nice tits!
Ours had all the all-the-same color balls, and that spotlight with the color wheel. damn, must be dust in the air…:sniff:
@daveinwarsh Just yesterday I was talking about my grandparents having a silver tree with the rotating light wheels on either side of it. There must have been some pretty good shit in the Geritol back then.
@daveinwarsh My aunt, the trendy one, had the silver tree and color wheel for a few years; my Dad would have none of it; we had real trees every year.
@RiotDemon We have always picked one out locally. The last few years we have been very disappointed. Difficult to find a good selection, very expensive, and the worst part, dried out and dropped needles way too quickly.
I’ve heard that the ones they sell on lots have actually been sitting around for quite a while, hence the dropping needles. I’ve also heard that the ones that are shipped are fresher, as in cut right around the time they ship, so they should last longer.
Again, all just stuff I “heard”, so I was just wondering if anyone had a real experience with this.
@therealjrn We always had the artificial white tree when I was a kid! I hated it, and vowed that we would always have a fresh tree when I was a grown up and got to make the decisions. So far I have held to that vow.
Remember when Christmas chatter didn’t start until Thanksgiving?
@cranky1950 I saw a Christmas commercial over a week ago.
@cranky1950 I saw my first Christmas commercial Halloween night…such a magical time of year.
I get SO SICK of Christmas music every year. Yay!
@RiotDemon All I know is that it really wasn’t Christmas until Santa tobogganed on a Norelco floating head.
@cranky1950
@cranky1950 Yeah, yeah, yeah, I apologized up front you cranky so and so!
@pitamuffin So ? Sorry, I have to pass gas? How great does that go over?
just be careful, then they dry out they are literally kindling.
@thismyusername Not when “they” would sink them down in the middle of the enclosed fishing dock on Grand Lake…
Damnit I NEVER caught a fish, but I caught LOTS of freakin’ trees.
/good times
the then in my comment above should have been when.

I am out of the delivery area as they deliver on bikes but I find the pulled pork and a Christmas tree combo hilarious
@CaptAmehrican I would buy a tree just to see them deliver it on a bike.
@CaptAmehrican Now I wish I lived in Baltimore!
