I was in New Orleans 3 years ago and I saw this band called the Joint Chiefs of Jazz. They did a fantastic set of Christmas music. Anyway I like Christmas jazz that doesn’t involve Kenny G or jazzhop and such off Youtube.
Studio creation “The Peppermint Kandy Kids” and their 1972 hit “It’s A Big Christmas World” [similar concept to singers who were billed as The Brady Kids]
I could go on for quite a while. I have a complex relationship with Christmas. I don’t love the holiday but I love the music. So I’ll stop here with what is probably one of the most beautiful pieces of choral music ever written: O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen. Our choir is singing it this year, but not nearly this well.
Who doesn’t want a car that dances to Trans-Siberian Orchestra?
Wizards in Winter (live show)

@Targaryen My kid graduated high school last May, so this is the first year not going to his Jazz and Symphonic holiday concerts. I really miss them!
@pitamuffin I’ve gone to some high school concerts as well, just because. Gotta support those putting time to be good at music.
@thismyusername And, of course, Stephen’s show-stopper:
now it’s stuck in your head.
Fun, and not at all appropriate for family gatherings
Absolutely beautiful, one of my favorite modern Christmas songs
I could not find a mad ape den version
My dad had a TimeLife Christmas Through the Years album when I was a kid. I recently discovered all of it on Youtube. A couple of my favorites…

Right now Alexa is playing the station ‘Instrumental Christmas Music’, which is about as much as I can stand.
“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” played on water glasses:
Pentatonix in a church, no mikes, no studio tricks, just pure acoustic bliss.
I blame @therealjrn for this:
Though… the song does bring tears to my eyes…
@daveinwarsh woo hoo!
Better than Halloween music?!
@ELUNO just different!
Stuck in my head is the (newer, more polished) version of this from James Taylor at Christmas

@medz haha, I wrote the meh thread. I just didn’t want to play necromancer today.
Plus, I didn’t want to limit it to “non traditional.”
Heart’s Balulalow is nice,
Balulalow
Joubert’s Torches and Personet Hodie (On This Day Earth Shall Ring) are some other favorites.

“Silent Night” as it sounds played on a chromatic harmonica:
Who could have predicted that Nick Lowe would become the Jimmy Stewart of rock?
Sufjan Stevens’ Christmas oeuvre is baffling and beautiful. It’s hard to pick a representative song.
If you have five hours, you can listen to the entire collection.
It isn’t Christmas without this:
