Chienfou, celle-ci est pour toi
7I hope this works.
It made me giggle. I’m actually going to start practicing français cadien. I learned a bit in high school from my boyfriend’s family but never fluent. I’ve definitely been feeling the pull of those roots more lately and will probably be painting more bayou inspired things once the shop and studio are done. Anyway. Hope it makes you smile.

@chienfou I should probably mention you methinks.
@sillyheathen
Drove up to Nashville today for Thanksgiving. Didn’t check anything while we were in the car (I was driving) so just found this. C’est merveilleux!
@chienfou @sillyheathen Hilarious! Chienfou, does cajun French sound really odd to you?
@Kyeh @sillyheathen
Yes some. It’s a bit different cadence and some words are a little different. I was told once that it was more like ‘old French’ that hasn’t evolved like the language in the home country…
@chienfou @Kyeh where I’m from, it’s still prevalent down the bayous, but even then, most young people don’t embrace it the way previous generations did. Growing up, it was looked down on by city folk. It was seen as uncouth or uncivilized. You were somehow viewed as less intelligent even though you spoke multiple languages which still makes me laugh.
My auntie traveled a ton. She said the only people who were ugly about the difference in dialect were French Canadians. In France and Africa most people were very accommodating. They had a harder time with tourists who didn’t try to use or learn any of their language.
@chienfou @sillyheathen Weird - because doesn’t Canadian French sound odd to French people too?
@chienfou @Kyeh I think maybe because it’s more colloquial? The Cajuns came from French occupied Canada originally anyway.
