Some of the holiday commercials are so good. Only problem with this one is…
WTF, I;m not sure what year that car is, but it looks like around the time we started driving!
My husband adored his first car. Spent every penney he saved from all his jobs…first of which started in 4th grade when his brother got hurt and he had to take his paper route.
@smilingjack Oh, there’s more problems with it than just that. It is, however, a well-done fantasy piece full of wishful nostalgia. Which I guess makes it effective advertising.
Call me twisted, but I half expected the ending to be him hitting a tree, running over the mailbox or getting pulled over by a cop for driving with expired tags.
I saw a shorter (2 min) version of this a couple nights ago during the basketball game, puddled up then, puddled up 2 minutes more now.
My family had a 67 Impala, hardtop - it was part of the family.
Admitted newbie here- only bought 2 things from Meh (ever) & haven’t been on the forum since joining in 2019…Couldn’t after waking up few hrs ago so messing around online until I come across this & realize I’ve been blessed with grown man tears from a Chevy commercial, at 6am, in the dark. Amazing
I wonder what the daughter does for a living. Clearly she is in her late 20s, less than a decade into a post-college career, paid off her student loans, didn’t get married or pregnant (good thing white women with money have access to choice), and had the extra $50K or so it took to restore that car in less than a few months. Does the dad know about her OnlyFans site?
@mike808 It looks like they live on a farm. Albeit a small one, we didn’t see the whole thing. You’d be surprised how much farmers can make in some areas. Plus with a group of older guys who have all old Chevy vehicles they probably had some parts laying around. It definitely wasn’t an “over night” job like the actors said, but I think the point was that the mom (and dad) had an impact not just on the family but also the community enough to have everyone pitch in.
@mbersiam I think you’re overly misty-eyed about the reality of small farms in America. The ad appears to feature some sort of ranch in the rockies, not a farm. The most profitable farms these days are likely to be pot farms, or large BigAg corporate farms, not small family-owned farms/ranches.
Small farms are roughly 50% of the land (ranches are large land-wise, but low production), but only produce 20% of US agricultural output. That means BigAg owns roughly the other 50% of the land, but captures 80% of the revenue. Also,any states now let foreign investors own BigAg farm corporations. Notably Chinese investors, double-dipping on the “buy-a-green-card” program for foreign investors to skip the immigration line.
Then there’s the whole homage to white privilege aspect.
“Consolidation has reduced opportunities for new farmers, who have become increasingly rare — and this has hit Black farmers, already fighting an uphill battle against multiple barriers imposed by structural racism, especially hard,” the Union of Concerned Scientists wrote.
If she had gone into certain medical fields, notably high demand areas of nursing she could have had the money even in her late 20s if not before
Medical fields tend to have clinical requirements within their educational programs and the clinical portions of the program have to partner with an existing highly ranked clinic hospital or other medical facility
So fly by night for profit educational institutions can’t just open up and create nursing or radiology or pharmacy or similar programs; they have to find a hospital or clinic or other medical facility to partner with them for the clinical portions of the training first.
otherwise they can’t get accredited and their graduates can’t get their state certifications
That’s why the US has constant ongoing recruiting programs for these medical professionals who were trained abroad and currently practice professionally abroad, especially from the Philippines
That’s why wages for certain medical fields have tended to remain respectable rather than being debased as badly as many other professions’ wages have been
It also means that existing accredited medical programs that require clinical training can’t simply expand their programs only have so many clinical slots so the profession can’t be easily flooded by people who received possibly not excellent training and it means you have to have really good grades or credentials in order to get into a given program compared to whoever else is applying
@futurian
I went and saw “Spiderman” last night and they showed this commercial before the feature. For whatever reason, there was a group to my right that thought it was the funniest commercial they ever saw.
They laughed hysterically when the man found the picture of his wife in the car.
"Bwa ha ha ! Look at the dog! It jumped in the car with him! ha ha ha (snort) "
They laughed again when the man hung up the picture of his wife over the rear-view mirror of the refurbished car.
I had the same thought, but I am hoping it wasn’t the case. The group consisted of two young teens and two women - one of which was explicitly referred to as “mom”. The mom made the “dog” remark. I do understand that parents getting high with their kids does happen, but I would prefer to think their sense of humor is sub-par.
ok sometimes i’m willing to forgive a commercial for being a commercial.
that was well done.
/giphy I’m not crying you’re crying

btw…I was in tears watching.
But…when did we become the old guys???

One of the most beautiful cars ever built.
Call me twisted, but I half expected the ending to be him hitting a tree, running over the mailbox or getting pulled over by a cop for driving with expired tags.
@mehcuda67 Hi twisted!
@mehcuda67 I was thinking the same thing. Or selling it off.
@mehcuda67 Like the one with the girl that saves the snowman all year only to have it get run over the minute she puts it back outside.
OMG. My did you have to make me cry??

@mike808 i’m not sure where you’re from… but i live on a farm. In the midwest. I understand the struggles and the benefits.
@mike808 Most women have an onlyfans…
@mike808 @SEGAStaRBiTS64
Most men have a lot of fantasies
@mike808

@Kyeh @mike808 Women like women too ya know. I’m one of them ;3
@mike808 @SEGAStaRBiTS64
Okay - cool. But it’s a fantasy to think that most women have an onlyfans!
@Kyeh @mike808 I mean I’m only into furry girls, but real girls are okay too
@mike808 @SEGAStaRBiTS64
Okay, but not furry enough?
@Kyeh @mike808 Ah no, I think furry girls are the best. I’d choose a fox waifu or husbando over a real person any day. :3
@mike808 @SEGAStaRBiTS64
Have you made the acquaintance of @Pooltoywolf? Good buddies already, perhaps?
@Kyeh @mike808 @SEGAStaRBiTS64 I heard my name owo
@Kyeh @mike808 @SEGAStaRBiTS64 There’s a reason I love Fox McCloud and Krystal from the Star Fox video games.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf @SEGAStaRBiTS64
I think I saw one of you in Walmart the other day.
@Kyeh @mike808 @PooltoyWolf Can’t say that I have!
@Kyeh @mike808 @PooltoyWolf Haha! Ya know, I do own a tail and ears, but I don’t wear them much.
@Kyeh @mike808 @PooltoyWolf Hell yeah!
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf @SEGAStaRBiTS64
Tail and ears you say?
@Kyeh @mike808 @PooltoyWolf Lmfao! It’s like
a neko Donald Duck!
@mike808 @PooltoyWolf @SEGAStaRBiTS64
Sega, meet Wolf!
https://meh.com/forum/topics/pooltoywolf-on-a-hoverboard?sort=most-likes
@Kyeh @mike808 @SEGAStaRBiTS64 It me
@Kyeh @mike808 @PooltoyWolf Oh. Howdy!
Y’all are choking on her financial status, but you don’t have any problem with the full restoration being completed in a few days?
@blaineg
There might be a bit of fantasy involved in the storyline of so many feel-good commercials.
Just a tiny wee bit of fantasy.
@blaineg
That was noted…
Noting one plot discontinuity doesn’t preclude others.
@futurian

@DrWorm , I feel sorry for those people, I guess they have no feelings…
@DrWorm I’m guessing they were high…
@compunaut

Well done.
