@placeholder@xarous No, there's something particularly odd with that picture. It's a narrow compartment, not a regular engine bay. Notice the strut holding it open? It appears to be all the way on the right side meaning that's the full width of the compartment where the battery resides. It almost looks like some sort of specialty vehicle. Maybe an off road vehicle considering the dirt you can see in the grooves or even a boat if that's sand.
@Cinoclav Very nice point on the strut, I didn't think about the apparent width. I haven't seen many boatds with stamped steel construction for body panels, usually FRP. As you said, likely an offroad vehicle based on the evidence. Thanks for humoring this meh-gineer :)
Wonder what the shelf life is on the battery. Could you charge it and let it sit in your truck for a year, in case you're stranded? I also wonder how long a 100watt ish inverter would last on here. Hrmmm
@TehMaliron I have another make/model of one of these. It has started my 2001 suburban 5.3L twice. After sitting at about 80% for a few months it was still the same, and started a few vehicles. But one-at this price, it's a good deal. Otherwise, it's chargeable in the car or house. Don't let it sit any longer than 3 months and you'll be fine.
@TehMaliron Not a lot of capacity here, just a good bit of current (which is what you need for a jump start). I had an old school jumper box (lead acid battery) with inverter attached, think it was 8 to 10Ah capacity, and it would run my laptop (65w max draw, usually not using all that) for 2-3 hours. It weighed a good bit and was a pretty big box though.
Given inverter inefficiency, at a full 100w draw you're looking at less than an hour. At a lesser draw you'll get longer runtime.
The stated 400A max current is 50C draw on the batteries. If they are overrating the batteries at all you won't get too many jump starts before capacity diminishes. I will say I'm tempted to buy one myself.
@zippyus I was thinking the same: sweet, I could charge it in my car periodically. I won't remember to bring it in the house to charge though, which means it'd do just as little good as the (probably-)dead portable jump starter I already have in my trunk...
@username The slightly beefier units made by Rockford/anti gravity see a lot of use at my work. they routinely jump things old school full size jump boxes don't turn over. No idea about this unit, if it was a Rockford or anti gravity I would have been in for three. this says "knock-off" to me.
@username ya, I dunno either. My hope is that it's enough to help a struggling battery get it started. The battery doesn't go dead, it's just not strong enough to turn over long enough to get a very cold motorcycle started.
Wow. We sell these where I work, and the are $99.99. Same exact thing. Just woah!~ And, we sold out of them when we first got them, and now no one is buying them. Interesting. I'm half tempted, only because this price is less than even using my discount at work...but I already have jumper cables...but...then again, it could totally be helpful when there is no one to help you jump your car. Hm...
I have a similar product that I payed full price for after getting stranded in the desert with a bum battery. It's looks small, but it will start your car or your motorcycle more then once and have plenty of charge left over for your phone. I don't charge mine every month, probably more like every two or three, but I definitely wouldn't leave it for a whole year like someone else asked. Considering buying a second at this price do I can keep one in the car and one on the bike.
I would've just about killed for one of these when I moved to Texas. 1) My battery died the day before I was going to drive from Memphis to look for an apartment 2) A uhaul truck that I had rented died and stranded me at a storage facility. 3) My fiancee's died the week before she moved... 4) ...and then her new battery died again when we were 1.5 hours away from Dallas. While we waited for my sister to meet us... 5) My grandmother's truck, which I was driving at the time, died too. That's five dead batteries in about three weeks.
I've actually been researching these lately but will have to pass. Two notes:
The good ones come with LiFEPO4 batteries. a) They have a much better ability to hold a charge. Most of them recommend recharging once every 3-6 months if they haven't been used b) they are less likely to be damaged under adverse conditions (like, say, the heat in the trunk of a car in the Texas sun all day). Based on the sketchy product descriptions, many of the use regular LiPo batteries.
The really useful ones will charge your laptop in addition to having USB ports. Personally, I'm holding out for that.
Oh, and if any product manufacturer is listening, while I understand that you can't charge off of micro USB, the least you could is charge at 12V from a barrel connector (instead of the 15V that most do) so that any cheap car charger will do. A jumpstarter that I have to take out of the car for hours at a time to charge is pretty useless, because it won't make it back into the car for days.
Last night, got in the car with the family to come home home from Christmas shopping. Nothing. Battery totally dead. AAA would have taken 1-2 hours to come. A unit just like this from a Good Samaritan got us on our way in 3 mins. I tossed him $20 for bailing us out of a jam, and it was a great value. For a little more than 2X that, you won't get caught. I don't recommend being without one. I got this.
If this were a little cheaper I would buy it, because some day I will also buy a car. Which will also be cheap. And probably need this. (both because it's cheap and because it'll only get driven about once a month)
We have a very nice Stanley "traditional" booster with built-in air compressor, light, and USB port. Paid a bit more for it and love it - going strong for over 5 years.
However, our Stanley uses a lead acid battery. The reason it has survived? I need to top off the charge every other month. Had a previous one fail when I didn't top off the charge.
Can't speak for the quality of this meh model, but that Lithium battery in it has two advantages: 1) It will hold a charge longer than a lead acid battery... 2) It will very likely come back to life if you let it completely discharge (unlike lead acid batteries , which hate discharging completely).
@RedOak lithium batteries don't like to be completely discharged either, and may or may not come back from a trip too far down dead battery lane. But they don't self discharge like other cells so they will maintain a charged state longer. They actually do best if stored partially charged.
I just received mine yesterday and by the most amazing coincidence I need it today. It's fully charged up and I'm going to try it soon. My only problem is that the instructions are so tiny I can't read them. Is there a PDF of the manual anywhere? I google'd around and couldn't find one.
My Mustang battery died from no use over the Christmas break as usual. Yesterday I used a Schumacher XC-75 battery charger to recharge it and it still wouldn't start even though it said the battery was at 100% (which is troubling). I even used its Engine Start mode with no luck.
I received the ChargeIt! Jump yesterday (incredible timing) and it took 6 hours to charge. I tried it this morning and it started the car first try.

A: If it's damaged, defective, or just DOA, we'll either refund or replace it at our discretion. Just fill out our support form and tell us all about it. We DO NOT accept returns if you just decided you didn't want it, don't like the color, or just feeling a little buyer's remorse. You might try eBay - with as cheap as you probably got it, you could even end up making a little off it. Or hone your reputation for generosity by giving it to someone a little less picky.
Pulling this thread from the dead to request that Meh get more of these. It saved my bacon a couple of times, until yesterday when I tried to be a good Samaritan and jump start an old lady's car at the gas station in the rain. My dumb ass was distracted and hooked up the cables backwards and ZZZAP! I thought the batteries were going to explode. So I literally killed the Chargeit with my ignorance, and will now have to buy another. I'd like it to be from you fine folks :)
today I mowed the lawn for the last time this year. Of course the battery on the lawn mower was dead. Got my chargeit which had been sitting around since I refreshed it last Sept. Plugged it for a half hour still had a pretty good charge then started the lawn mower. Another successful meh purchase. Almost as good as the Idea lite.
