cat lovers check this out
5I so want…
http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/35126310/list/a-home-becomes-a-playland-for-20-rescued-cats
I have 7 cats, the last 3 were abandoned by my neighbor, the rest were strays (3 of them are nearly 14)… need to find a home for the 3 littles (the ones my neighbor left behind are all young) as I can't afford that many and it is too many for the space I am living in at the moment… but I'd sure love to be able to make a house as cat friendly as these guys did. There is, somewhere on the internet, another video of a family who also did something similar in their house that is equally as cool.

I must have the most boring cats in the world. Ankles are not attacked from under the bed, Christmas trees are not climbed, and boxes are left empty. It isn't just my current two residents, but stretching back two decades. The craziest one would eat the curling ribbon off of gifts. Otherwise, it is all mellow and calm here. Boring.
I've seen a few houses that had all kinds of catwalks and perches for their felines. I would love to have one too. If only I could win the lottery or something.
I would love to have something like that at my house! My foster cats would never leave my house though!
This would be great for my house, since the dogs have taken over. Would be nice for the cats to have someplace they can go to get away, besides just the top of the cat tree. Poor kitties can't even keep any toys because one of my dogs will eat them.
What a cool house even without all of the cat amenities. I bet there is endless entertainment provided by those cats. Nice shoutout to the Roomba too.
I wouldn't go that far, but I have toyed with the idea of putting catflaps in the bathroom doors.
I love the idea but no house should have 20 cats. Get them to a licensed and reputable rescue.
@editorkid As long as the people with the cats have the financial ability to pay for proper vetting and are able to give the cats affection (and quite a few ferals will never be affectionate), I see no reason to not have as many cats as you can care for.
Some people only have a couple of cats (my brother-in-law, for instance) and have absolutely NO business with cats at all. Just sayin'.
@lisaviolet I very strongly disagree. Recently someone posted about one of these self-appointed rescue people who killed many cats in a house fire. These people need help.
@editorkid Fires can happen anywhere. And the fire killed the cats, the rescue person did not. We don't have any feral cats around our area any longer because people trapped them and had them euthanised or the coyotes got them.
@editorkid And I know another "legitimate" rescue, 501 status and all, that kept rescued cats in cages on the patio (she also rescued dogs). Some had been there for years. At one point someone turned her in and she was raided and most were removed from her premises.
Another time she had a rescue dog that killed cats. It happened once, she gave the dog another chance and it happened again. And she's a licensed rescue. So, the "licensed" designation really doesn't mean a lot to me.
@lisaviolet Just checked and I did say "licensed and reputable." Are these peopke trying to find permanent homes for these cats? That's rescue. If not, these people are just the saddest and most broken hoarders. They need help.
Shrugging off the fire doesn't impress me. Had the person rescued the cats into permanent homes or left them to their own resources rather than hoarding them, they'd still be around.
@editorkid Well, I guess that we're at a place where it's best to just agree to disagree. Having had one neighbor save a cat from a coyote and bringing it to our house to take to a vet because he had to go to work (cat was PTS) and finding the back half of another cat in our yard, well, just let's agree to disagree about just leaving them to fend for themselves. And good homes aren't all that easy to find when you've got a litter of feral kittens on your hands. Homes are hard enough to find for regular, loved cats who's owners just want to dump them off on someone. Many places won't touch a feral cat. So, let's just agree to disagree on this point. And I hope to God you're never in a position that you have to make the decision.
@lisaviolet Feral cats don't need to and shouldn't be "rescued" (hoarded). That's what feral means. I know the right decision; three colonies of coyotes are known in the cemetary down the street from me. Welcome to nature. From there, I'll agree to disagree, sure.
We had shelves on our walls for the cats to climb, but they just peed on the walls. Shelves came down.
I suddenly went from a pair of cats to a trio. One of my pondslime neighbors moved out, taking his 65" TV but dumping the cat litter boxes etc. into the trash. He took one of his cats but abandoned the one with severe matting. $230. in vet bills later, I have another cat. The vet will testify in court if needed. Ah well, I have a 7-story cat condo, so plenty of space. Meowry (and Hissy) Christmas to us.
@OldCatLady ...and to the cats
@OldCatLady Yeah my neighbors left behind 3 babies. I had taken their cat tree, cages, etc out of the trash pile never realizing they had abandoned the cats. Wasn't until several weeks later that I realized it. So I took them in, called them and they told me they meant to leave them behind. Makes me have 7 which I can not afford and so the no kill shelter is trying to place the neighbor's three (they are all very young, sweet little things who follow me around as if they were dogs). I have 3 that are 13 almost 14 - one of whom I raised from 10 days old who now is hyperthyroid, another one of them has a terminal disease, the third who has that genetic enlarged heart (but doing OK), then a 4 year old who was a stray who was eating with the feral my neighbor was feeding who turned out to not to be feral and is such a grateful kitty and then a little one who I rescued by the side of the highway in the driving rain who died suddenly last March one night at 3.5 years old.
@Kidsandliz in a lot of places abandonment of pets is against the law. you could report them for it.
@Kidsandliz I took in a russian blue I seen around the neighborhood the past few months the other night. He was a healthy weight so I knew he didn't have parasites in worms but had cuts on his ears. Took him to the vet today ( yes on Xmas eve! ) and turns out he has/had a massive earmite infestation. $72 to get him fixed up +$100 in Advantage Multi for my other cats who probably now got infected with ear mites but I can tell this guy is going to be worth it!
@Outofmymind http://www.lisaviolet.com/cathouse/advantage.html
@lisaviolet I could report the pondslime, but then I'd have to talk with or at him, and that would not end well. The vet said I could call him and he'd bail me out, but probably not a good idea. Very fortunate no mites or other parasites, and her blood work was clear.
I'd have to do some research about the difference between dog multi and cat multi.
@lisaviolet Thanks for that! I actually been using the new Bayer line since it is the same company just a generic label. In this case though I had to get the Multi which is much more expensive than normal Advantage as it includes ear mites and other things this new poor guy may have spread around before being treated today. I used to hate playing with needles but with my SO having MS and starting injections this month I've become less fearfull of playing with doses. I'll look into the dog/cat thing. I am now up to 5 cats and it is indeed costly for 10 trips to vet a year + flea control and food but worth it!
@lisaviolet Fortunately I have a spare bedroom for the new girl. Until she's healed and settled, she will stay in it. Dreadful mats, golf ball size - she's long haired. She had to be sedated so they could do a hygiene clip- the vet couldn't even determine gender until then. She'd never been brushed, so this will be a slow process. Oh, and her tail had been broken and is bent double, but isn't causing any distress. I say again, pondslime. I hope his 65" TV electrocutes him.
@lisaviolet Oh and Vern wishes everyone a very Mehmas https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/elQQvXBcxCxIURJC4aUsjQ_3iE16l6j-x46SzEfxpA=w78-h140-p
@Outofmymind He's definitely saying 'Meh'. I know that look.
The Hemingway House is home to 40-60 six-toed cats:
http://www.hemingwayhome.com/cats/. The site used to have webcams pointed at all the cat spots around but they've taken it down.
As for medicine.. I usually buy Revolution (Selamectin for large dogs) since it covers mites, fleas, heartworms, etc etc and bought a oral syringe from a local compounding pharmacy to lower the dose for my cats. Dog dose is the same chemical just more concentrated and larger, but barely more expensive. One dog dose does 5.7 cat doses( 2 ml 40kg dog vs 0.375 ml cat ).
My...LOVE this.
That is so cool. I wish I had the ability to add even a tenth of that to my house.
Found the house I had seen before on the internet.
I do think what the guys built is nicer than what this couple did although they do have every square inch of their house decorated in cat stuff..
