@MrGoodGuy Well, $30-$60 is our price. $60-$80 each is used because we’re also selling a combo of both valued at $140. If we weren’t selling the combo, it would just say $60-$80.
@troy Fair enough. I’m just one of those who hate prices ending in .99 instead of rounding up to the next dollar. It’s one of those psychological sales marketing tactics I abhor.
@MrGoodGuy@troy Since pennies won’t even be manufactured any more, it’s past time that .99 goes away and dies a quiet death. Full dollar prices from now on. Pennies won’t exist.
But deals on Meh and the other sites started getting priced at X.99 somewhere around late 2017 (RIP MehStalker, would look up exactly when it changed if I could). I guess it changed because that trick just plain works on lots of people. There was even a poll about it from back then. https://meh.com/forum/topics/what-do-you-think-about-prices-that-end-in--99-like-4-99
The nickel will get the axe soon as well. It has almost the same level of cost disadvantage as the penny. Existing coins will persist in circulation until they all get lost in the seat cushions and/or used as craft materials, so it’s going to be a while before they vanish - and with most people using electronic payment methods, the 99-cent pricing is likely to stick around way too long. I know convention merchants who have been rounding to the nearest dime or quarter for a while now.
If you don’t currently cook with induction, I encourage getting a cheap induction hotplate and some compatible cookware. It’s amazing how much faster it heats up and how much less heat it puts into the air while you’re cooking. Great for summer! The only downside is that some cookware makes a high-pitched ringing noise, so it’s good to know if the women in your life will flee from the kitchen in pain before you buy a real induction cooktop.
You got yourself some fancy cookware
But pan noise made ladies flee from there
It’s too bad that the tone
Means you’re dining alone
Your portion’s a feast when you can’t share
I am a believer in Stainless Steel. Non sticks still get stuff stuck on them and removing it removes that layer and makes what could be a $20+ kitchen tool unsafe to use. So it’s better to get stainless steel and some heavy-duty removal stuff (My grandma swears by barkeeper’s friend and baking soda, I’m partial to a power drill and a brillo drill bit).
@AaronLeeJohnson Au contraire… I have found that it sticks way less than stainless steel with less oil needed. Scrambled eggs slide right out of my ceramic. Always end up sticking to stainless.
Anyone know if these pots are 18/10 or 18/8 stainless steel? I tried looking into it but it seems they don’t say in any product page whether it’s 18/10 or 18/8 stainless steel
@zach_kay392
Interesting question. I thought for sure Calphalon would say, but what they do say is, “We’re not telling. Maybe yes, maybe no:”
Is your Stainless Steel Made with 18/10?
We use only the highest grades of stainless steel in our products. Some of our products are constructed using 18/10 stainless steel, which denotes the ratio of chromium and nickel respectively. Higher nickel content is preferable because it resists rust and corrosion. Calphalon does use 18/10 material in many of our products; however, we do not indicate the grade of stainless steel used on packaging. Calphalon conducts extensive testing to ensure all materials meet our strict quality and performance standards, and depending on when your item was produced, it could contain 18/10 material.
@zach_kay392
Update:
I asked on Amazon and apparently AI answered:
What type of stainless steel is used for Premier cookware? 18/8? 18/10?
The Calphalon Premier Space-Saving Stainless Steel Cookware Set is made with a triple-layer, heavy-gauge aluminum core for excellent heat conduction. The stainless steel composition contains nickel, with an allowance between 8% and 10%. However, Calphalon no longer designates their cookware as being 18/10 due to the variance in production runs and the need to make adjustments for induction cooking.
@Christo196 thank you very much. I went to Chat gpt to see if I can get any information and basically it answered me that no website where you can buy their pots whether it’s Macy’s or their website itself does it indicate if it’s 18/10 or 18/8. It tells me it’s likely a high grade metal based on the fact that they are considered a high grade company. And the fact they have different lines such as the signature line or the premier line and some are high-end or medium-end and they may each have a different grade.
I think it’s disgusting that such a reputable company does not specify. It also seems based on a review I read on the website itself that the packaging doesn’t say either

Can’t you just say “$30 - $60”?? You used $60-$80 each at Amazon so what’s up with that??
@MrGoodGuy Well, $30-$60 is our price. $60-$80 each is used because we’re also selling a combo of both valued at $140. If we weren’t selling the combo, it would just say $60-$80.

@MrGoodGuy It’s funny because even @dave himself thinks the X.99 pricing is stupid, as seen here from back in 2014: https://meh.com/forum/topics/meh-experiment-variables-pricing

@Christo196 @MrGoodGuy @troy Well, that or they’ll start using .95
@lljk @MrGoodGuy I simultaneously think it is stupid and begrudgingly admit it likely still works.
@dave @lljk @MrGoodGuy
Really doesn’t matter since once you add tax to it there’ll be pennies involved anyway.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou @dave @lljk @MrGoodGuy I’m still looking for nine 1/10-cent coins for when I buy exactly one gallon of gas. I’m not overpaying!

My ceramic coated pans are amazingly non-stick…
@chienfou GreenPan FTW, on the rec of America’s Test Kitchen
@chienfou Ceramic is pretty good but not as good as stainless steel.

In for the pair.
only yesterday I was thinking I should get a smaller induction compatible saucepan… not scary at all!

@henare Not in Southern Baptist country. Hell, they don’t even recognize each other in the liquor store or the beer aisle of Winn-Dixie.
Just bought (yesterday) similar set but cuisinart. Any able to make comparisons?
@edsa cuisinart will cook your food just fine.

Practical Magic Chef?
“AI” Garbage.
Costco has (or had) a whole set instead of just two for $99 late last week.
