In honor of the departure of our beloved and much respected @JonT let's hear your favorite breakup song. (Please don't take them personally JonT!) Whether it is angry, sad, or happy to be free, what do you consider the best?
One of The Beautiful South's many many sad songs for hard-drinking northerners soaked with existential melancholy and gin in equal measure:
So I'll cry with a limp, Just get by on a limb Till these blue eyes of mine they are closed So here's to an old fashioned peck on the cheek And farewell my sweet Northern Rose...
Give him a chorus and that bit at the end Where he wails on and on 'bout the loss of a friend Let him scream loudly "well this love could mend" Let it die, let it die, let it die...
@looseneck It's a little weird. Just yesterday I had a "Bat Out of Hell" moment. Had to play the whole thing as loud as I could without getting distortion.
@dashcloud He actually did You Don't Love Me Anymore with a medley of other songs at the concert. It was just a couple guys playing guitars and it was one of my favorite moments!
Then there's Good Company by Queen with Brian May's awesome Dixieland jazz band on guitar. Not quite as well known as the song that comes after it on the album.
@KDemo I love this song!
@KDemo I was gonna go with this one.
@lisaviolet - Great minds.
Nothing to do with JonT but a great breakup song:

SFW version:
@thismyusername Excellent choice, it's a good song in general. A hate song you can dance to.

@Teripie - Sometimes you just gotta have some Meatloaf.
Two great songs from Weird Al on breakups and relationships:
Since You've Been Gone:
You Don't Love Me Anymore:

@dashcloud Nice. Star for you.
@pitamuffin I've never seen the video to that. I love it.
None of my break ups have gone well. This song fits perfectly
@Willijs3 ska <3
@JonT Since you're going out with another site now, I Want U Back!
But, I promise, I swear - you will always have a home here!
We are always your friends!
@mfladd
@jaremelz don't be hate'n!
@2many2no You have posted our anthem to JonT.
@2many2no perfect J. Geils song. You get a special star!
Simon & Garfunkel - I Am A Rock
Gorilla Zoe - Echo with lyrics
FOREVER IN THE FRIENDZONE
@connorbush Always star Simon & Garfunkel.
@jaremelz amen to that.
Carissa's Wierd - They'll only miss you when you leave.
@CowboyDann Wow, haven't heard them in ages. Locals, for the win!
@jaremelz Jenn Ghetto is gonna be here at the end of next month. Thinking of going.
OK, after thinking about it, that was a bit harsh.
Here's something more wistful.
And for all our friends from www.ppomppu.co.kr and www.wal.co.kr a nice combo of blues & pop that's pretty cheeky.
This: The Last Leaf, by the Cascades. Plenty of sweet, wistful despair, fits right in here.
I think this about sums up my feelings about @JonT 's Departure.
Are you ready, boots? Start walkin'.
OK, I just can't leave this alone.
Here's how I heard @JonT was leaving...
None sadder than this....
Lots of favorite break up songs from back in the day.....
It's too tough to decide on just one...
Lily Allen - Smile
"When you first left me I didn't know what to say..."
Alanis Morissette - You oughta know
"I want you to know that I'm happy for you... I wish nothing but the best for you both..."
The Rankin Family - Fare thee well love
"Fare thee well, love... Far away, you must go."
And one that really captures the precise moment when the relationship went south...
MC Mortimer - Acquisition Rap
"Nobody freak out..."
I don't know how on earth I forgot this one. A personal favorite.
Tempted by the fruit of another job:
This is one that, although not a break up song, is one of those melancholy types that I'd happily wallow in if in break up status.
How can we forget "The Breakup Song" by the the Greg Kihn Band?
@mfladd How the hell did everyone forget that one?
I love "Don't Forget Me" by Harry Nilsson.
Neko Case does a great version too.
Then there's Good Company by Queen with Brian May's awesome Dixieland jazz band on guitar. Not quite as well known as the song that comes after it on the album.
And here he is talking about how it was made.
