@Stallion Just wait until the Fuko bags arrive with Bluetooth speakers built in.. I mean literally within the bags themselves. Crappy sound quality for sure, but that's what makes it a Fuko, from Meh no less.
"Gee frank, you know what the world really needs? A bluetooth speaker that you need to plug into an outlet, that also functions as a USB charger. But here's the real kicker! It can also pass the plug through! How genius is that?"
"Bob, you beautiful sumbitch! Production starts tomorrow!"
Cut forward a few years.
"Bob, quite frankly, your idea was shit. How the hell are we going to sell all these units?"
"Well there is this outlet site that sells mediocre garbage, meh.com. Maybe they're desperate enough?"
@cercopithecoid ... No! Simple minded dumb asses. $94.00.. would you pay such an outrageous price? Of course not and neither would I because we're not simple minded dumb asses (even $44.00 is a stretch).
@thismyusername i mean, it would have been nice, right? imagine if you had like a 6000mah bluetooth speaker that can output 2.1A. has its own AC plug, only thing missing would be an integrated lightning/microusb cable lol
@atannir Knew what it was, dint know the origin, so for the too-lazy-to-Google types out there here it are: "The effect is named after the image on the tins and boxes of Droste cocoa powder, one of the main Dutch brands, which displayed a nurse carrying a serving tray with a cup of hot chocolate and a box with the same image."
How in the world can you titillate me with fifty captchas to prove I am not a fucking droid just to give me this failure the next day?
No. Fucking. Way.
That's it! I am canceling my VMP because you DID NOT live up to my post-April Fool's Day expectations that are totally unjustified and magnified by an obtuse sense of entitlement.
Someone help me out? I've never done bluetooth. So, I wouldn't have to put batteries in it or charge it, which I guess(?) bluetooth speakers need. And I have a fairly new laptop, so I could listen to music from my lappy in another room? Have itunes playing and send it to this speaker with some amazing bluetooth detection in windows? Do I got that?
It's too bad my outlets are so close to the ground--but extension cord, right? And these would really be prone to interference and buzz because they plug directly into 120 volts? Thank you friends. I think we are friends at this point. Let's not last nights misadventure get in the way of future good times.
@wew You can still get those Phillips bluetooth shelf speakers on sale at meh's super secret (seriously don't tell anybody) sister site Morningsave.com
@cercopithecoid Thank you, you're a sweetheart! It cost's more than I was anticipating though. I'll read the meh reviews, check the budget, and then decide. ($35 dollars isn't much, unless you don't have it, then $35 is a good bit! I'm not sure what happened, I was supposed to be handsome, famous, and rich right now.) But seriously, @cercopithecoid, thank you, and I'll try to finagle it! p.s. do you own a pair?
@kuaikuai Nah... they have just run out of nifty things to sell likely because there are now a lot of fire sale salvage sites and too much competition for the good stuff. In my personal opinion, there are fewer decent buys or fuku's than a year ago too.
@hurtsdonut Not only that, over time they are perfecting this strategy of lowering the standard for meh LOL. I'd give them an award, but I think I already threw out all the broken soccer statues my kid got over the years. With a sharpie I could have made a perfect one for meh (evil grin).
C'mon Meh tell us this was one of your sleazy April fool jokes, I'm gettin' antsie waitin' for the punch line... Oh, wait a minute.. It just went through; resilient-loathsome-steel... (damn! guess the jokes on me).
I think this is part of a progression to the eventual meh sale of this. You can probably guess from this image of the product without following the link as to the purpose of the aforementioned product. No bluetooth though.
The real question is, what does it actually sound like? Does it have good sound? It's kind of a cool concept. It is basically a phone charger that enhances your phone's sound while you're at it. But is the sound GOOD? Anybody know?
This actually has a really high sell rate for a produce on Meh, by the way. 97%. Most things get passed up on 99%+ of the time.
Anyway it looks like I found it's stripped down relative under the RCA brand, which has more reviews, albeit not good ones. Sound quality seems to be just okay, but pairing may be a PITA.
@narfcake @brhfl I havent had any issues either. These bt speakers i get from Meh are a PITA because i have a bunch of them i dont need and have no idea what to do with.
I coyly failed to mention that i was a likely possible cause of the PITA problem. These cheap bt speakers are a PITA becausr i buy them without locating brain first. Pls forgive. :)
@narfcake I bought 2 of these. Why? Because they are intriguing or stupid I can't tell which and because they are cheap and I don't have a use for them and I am hopeless.
So this offer says to me that our interest in things over-useful has brought another great company out of its area of real expertise, and into the limewire glare of the tchatchke universe. Acoustic Research, we hardly knew ye.
I think that if you sold it with some velcro so you could stick a phone to it, and maybe a USB cable so you could charge the phone, you could call it, maybe, um, I know, it's a
@sligett that's a great idea! With a little velcro , this is just like a dockspeaker that doesn't waste counter space in the kitchen. Seems perfect for listening to podcasts while making dinner! Besides, I can only see three BT speakers from where I'm standing, so definitely room for more!
I'm in for 2. I just received my echo dots from amazon and want always on speakers for them. For 20 bucks its worth a shot. If they don't work well I'll just re-gift them.
Here's my crazy idea for this potential POS... I use a battery powered BT speaker during my hour in the shower. It usually dies out mid-shampoo, then I have to recharge, rinse and repeat. There's an outlet next to the sink that this thing could live in, so if it sounds any good, it'll get put to good use. I'm kind of a speakerholic... this will be my 7th BT speaker purchase. Welcome to the family Arsewipe!
@Star69 I bought an exhaust fan with a BT speaker built in for my shower time. Honestly both the dumbest, and at the same time, greatest single purchase I have ever made.
Out of curiosity, is anyone swayed just a little bit being that it's made by Acoustic Research, an audio company that's been around forever....would they put out a terrible product?
@dbowser For 10 bucks you can find out. over 1000 other people have already ordered one. Frankly I'm a little surprised because I really don't see any benefit from this outlet-blocking thing. Maybe it has something to do with my other 8 BT speakers.
When I used to work in a cubicle and had outlets ringed all around me at desk level one of these would have been sweet.
Acoustic Reasearch is one of those old consumer brands that's withered on the vine. It and a parcel of other names were hovered up by Audiovox, a low-end consumer electronics company, now called "Voxx". More importantly, I personally would avoid any ac line-connected device without a third-party certification label such as UL, CSA, ETL, or the EU symbol. This one appears to have none of these. How about that - an entire comment without an f-bomb.
I had to order one of these because it managed to perfectly fill a very niche role in my home that I didn't even realize that there was a product that fit into. This was literally the thing that I didn't know that I needed until I just found out it existed.
Just got my speaker today. I initially thought this was such a weird concept, but now after plugging it in I'm mad I didn't buy more. This is a brilliant concept! It sounds good for what it is and for what it will be used for. The outlet and USB port is makes this a great purchase. Nice packaging.
I really liked the idea...I bought one to leave plugged in the garage. The sound quality is terrrrrible though. Like I'm ashamed to use it. My iPhone's internal speaker sounds better.
@mchamden1 What he said. Man the sound on this thing is miserable. It's only good enough for spoken word media like podcasts or audiobooks. Beyond that it covers up both outlets in a 2-outlet wall plate, and is wide enough to obstruct adjacent outlets/switches in the same box.
I just received mine too and since everyone had thoroughly lowered my expectations with all of the earlier negative comments my expectations were low enough that I have actually been very impressed by it. So thank you to everyone who had bad things to say about it initially.
To be fair it's not amazing, but for what it is, how much it cost, and how well it works for my very specific intended purpose it is pretty much perfect. The only thing I wish is that there was a way to limit volume directly on the speaker not just through the synced device.
Oh, and I was also impressed by the actual quality of the device its self and of the packaging it came in. I was expecting something much flimsier and cheap feeling.
@Lokiparts So, for the curious about my "specific use case" I have three munchkins. Of which the older two are old enough to possess their own tablets, and the youngest who is old enough to wander around the house sticking things into electrical outlets. So the specific roll that this fills for me is to not only block a very easily accessible outlet in my oldest offspring's room but to also serve as a portal for all of the sound emanating from his tablet. This way all the random video game sounds that he usually makes where ever he goes now only emanate from his room unless he plugs in his headphones. Also it affords him a handy USB charging port and still leaves the one outlet that I needed to plug in his lamp.
So like I said before this is an amazingly specific use case, but for me it is ideal. Honestly I probably would have bought another one for the other kids bedroom too if it had any exposed outlets. But since it doesn't it becomes doubly redundant as the outlets are already blocked by furniture, and playing music at the back of a dresser seems less than ideal... which is why their room is getting a Bluetooth speaker light bulb, as soon as it arrives in the mail.

Wow this is product is DUMB. ily meh.
Finally! A speaker!
@KDemo and Bluetooth connectable too!
@KDemo What's up, dock?
This deal is loud!
So, it takes up two outlets? Seriously? Oh, but then there's the single USB outlet.
@PocketBrain and a pass through
@thismyusername and it does have a 3 prong outlet on the other side.
They really will put a damn Bluetooth speaker in anything! I've seen it all now! Meh!
@Stallion Just wait until the Fuko bags arrive with Bluetooth speakers built in.. I mean literally within the bags themselves. Crappy sound quality for sure, but that's what makes it a Fuko, from Meh no less.
@Stallion Still waiting for a Roomba with a BT speaker so it can sing while it works.
No, I'm not a robot. No, I don't need any bluetooth speakers!
"Frequency response: 20Hz - 20kHz"
Suuuuuure....
@cjrhoades it has severe fall off at the ends - especially the low freq end.
@RedOak
Falloff into the carpet you mean?
Honestly, who the hell comes up with these ideas?
"Gee frank, you know what the world really needs? A bluetooth speaker that you need to plug into an outlet, that also functions as a USB charger. But here's the real kicker! It can also pass the plug through! How genius is that?"
"Bob, you beautiful sumbitch! Production starts tomorrow!"
Cut forward a few years.
"Bob, quite frankly, your idea was shit. How the hell are we going to sell all these units?"
"Well there is this outlet site that sells mediocre garbage, meh.com. Maybe they're desperate enough?"
"Bob... You beautiful bastard! Get in here!"
$94 list . . . starry eyed optimists.
@cercopithecoid ... No! Simple minded dumb asses. $94.00.. would you pay such an outrageous price? Of course not and neither would I because we're not simple minded dumb asses (even $44.00 is a stretch).
@unkabob just slap a Beats lable and it would sell for 198.00
@william488 ... Whoa..!
@unkabob dude
@william488 See the above post by Nexar!
I prefer my music coming from behind appliances and at floor level, so this is perfect.
Might be fun for fucking with the dog, though...The sound of cats?
I think this is the real FUKo deal..anyone else sound off about this too?
Would have been interesting if it had a built-in battery as well. Still on the fence..
@akumax then they could have tackled 3 segments at once!
@thismyusername i mean, it would have been nice, right? imagine if you had like a 6000mah bluetooth speaker that can output 2.1A. has its own AC plug, only thing missing would be an integrated lightning/microusb cable lol
I never knew speakers came in so many forms. Outlets, light bulbs, carabiner... Thanks for the education, Meh.
@primrosewater You forgot Balls, Towers, Earplugs, and Headphones.
My SWMBO is getting underwhelmed by all the [clever] errr- stupid types of Bluetooth connected dinguses I have to [regale] errr- bore her with.
Holy Droste Effect, Batman!
That's the stupidest fucking thing I've seen all week, and I see some stupid shit.
@Pavlov Maybe read this to pass the time until tomorrow's item?
@mike808 FTW!!
Right up there with the USB powered coffee warmer. [BTW, how many of you own the little USB dog that does nothing but hump the USB port?]
@radi0j0hn
@awk I'd totally use that toaster at work.
@radi0j0hn i own that dog. He comes with the warning not to let him hump too long.
Could have sworn I saw this thing in one of those SNL fake commercials.
What. The. Fuck. Is. This. Shit?
How in the world can you titillate me with fifty captchas to prove I am not a fucking droid just to give me this failure the next day?
No. Fucking. Way.
That's it! I am canceling my VMP because you DID NOT live up to my post-April Fool's Day expectations that are totally unjustified and magnified by an obtuse sense of entitlement.
I feel like this is a fire hazard
DAMMIT @KDEMO!!!
@narfcake - The gloat is better than this, speak(er) to the hand:
Someone help me out? I've never done bluetooth. So, I wouldn't have to put batteries in it or charge it, which I guess(?) bluetooth speakers need. And I have a fairly new laptop, so I could listen to music from my lappy in another room? Have itunes playing and send it to this speaker with some amazing bluetooth detection in windows? Thank you friends. I think we are friends at this point. Let's not last nights misadventure get in the way of future good times.
@wew wait for the phillips bluetooth shelf speakers to go back on sale...
@thismyusername ok. Thanks for simplifying my life! :)
But seriously, @cercopithecoid, thank you, and I'll try to finagle it!
p.s. do you own a pair?
I think I'll wait for the Bluetooth speaker with a Bluetooth speaker built in so I can listen to two things at once.
@LankHairdoo
Want.
Just 'cause.
@LankHairdoo
No gfci -- I'm out.
@therealjrn
Girl Friend Circuit Interrupter?
@f00l Hells no! Unless I can find me a Girl's FRIEND Circuit Interrupter. She be all kinds of blocking me...
$94 list!? How?
@InspectorGadget we can assume some sort of mood altering chemical... the same one in use when the design was conceived.
Meh said, "Super important we get it figured out quickly. We've got a cool thing to sell tomorrow" Yeah right.
I stopped by out of habit tonight even though I cancelled my VMP last night but so far no regrets.
Here's my new theory. The folks at Meh are robots.
@kuaikuai Nah... they have just run out of nifty things to sell likely because there are now a lot of fire sale salvage sites and too much competition for the good stuff. In my personal opinion, there are fewer decent buys or fuku's than a year ago too.
@Kidsandliz so meh is living up to its mission statement?
@hurtsdonut Not only that, over time they are perfecting this strategy of lowering the standard for meh LOL. I'd give them an award, but I think I already threw out all the broken soccer statues my kid got over the years. With a sharpie I could have made a perfect one for meh (evil grin).
why so many bluetooth speakers for sale? why? how many does the average person actually buy? is it required to attract new signups to meh.com?
C'mon Meh tell us this was one of your sleazy April fool jokes, I'm gettin' antsie waitin' for the punch line... Oh, wait a minute.. It just went through; resilient-loathsome-steel... (damn! guess the jokes on me).
I've already got enough bluetooth speakers for one lifetime, thanks. Meh.
April 2nd is the new April 1st
Doesn't this have a dock, a knife, and a veggie chip maker built in?
No?
Meh, you're breakin' my heart!
I think this is part of a progression to the eventual meh sale of this. You can probably guess from this image of the product without following the link as to the purpose of the aforementioned product. No bluetooth though.
@cercopithecoid Wow. Just... wow.
This screenshot says it all. Leaving it here as a link so as not to spoil people's guesses: http://imgur.com/UyCRa8c
@djslack Looks around at the store....where's that music coming from?
And here I thought that stream only flowed one way...
@cercopithecoid oh that doesn't go where I thought it goes.... well it does but not for the same reason..... well obviously my mind is in the gutter
ugh i actually am thinking about buying this
I wonder if my fucking fanatic order #( tiresome-textual-bite) has anything to do with last night...
That's a big robot
The real question is, what does it actually sound like? Does it have good sound? It's kind of a cool concept. It is basically a phone charger that enhances your phone's sound while you're at it. But is the sound GOOD? Anybody know?
This actually has a really high sell rate for a produce on Meh, by the way. 97%. Most things get passed up on 99%+ of the time.
Junk alert.......looks like a big piece of junk to me..........I wouldn't buy it.
(Why am I awake? Dammit again, @kdemo!)
Anyway it looks like I found it's stripped down relative under the RCA brand, which has more reviews, albeit not good ones. Sound quality seems to be just okay, but pairing may be a PITA.
@narfcake
It's here. Of course it's a PITA.
@f00l I haven't had any issuse with any of the other BT speakers I've bought here.
@narfcake @f00l The lightbulb speakers were a breeze to pair, which was surprising given that they were lightbulb speakers.
@narfcake - Aw, sorry you were up so late. But look what I can do!
@narfcake
@brhfl
I havent had any issues either.
@narfcake
I bought 2 of these. Why? Because they are intriguing or stupid I can't tell which and because they are cheap and I don't have a use for them and I am hopeless.
Ergo, PITA. Capish?
Unique idea, can't think of a better way to pop my meh-cherry. I'll bite.
So this offer says to me that our interest in things over-useful has brought another great company out of its area of real expertise, and into the limewire glare of the tchatchke universe. Acoustic Research, we hardly knew ye.
I think that if you sold it with some velcro so you could stick a phone to it, and maybe a USB cable so you could charge the phone, you could call it, maybe, um, I know, it's a
dockspeaker!
@kamajo You may have just convinced me of a use case for this.
This might be good to play Christmas music behind the tree or for noises at Halloween but that's about it.
Trying to understand a real use case for this. Maybe in the kitchen in an above-counter outlet? So you can stream stuff without risking your phone?
That's about the best I can do.
@ACraigL You're spozed to arrange your house around where you have the speakers, so you carry your phone to be near the speaker. Yup. Nope.
@OldCatLady I have an amazon echo dot which makes this speaker perfect to have.
After what you pulled yesterday. I already purchased my Woot item for the month and cancelled my VMP.
Wait! April Fools was YESTERDAY!!
@Star69
Hour in the shower? And family members let you live?
@Star69 I bought an exhaust fan with a BT speaker built in for my shower time. Honestly both the dumbest, and at the same time, greatest single purchase I have ever made.
What the hell. In for one
outer-bald-ass
I was kind of afraid to google that but I was not disappointed haha
Hmm, tempting..
Out of curiosity, is anyone swayed just a little bit being that it's made by Acoustic Research, an audio company that's been around forever....would they put out a terrible product?
@dbowser Like many other great brands of yore, AR isn't what they used to be.
@narfcake I'd give it a shot ( still may ), but the 3 watts bothers me.
Tempting, if only for disassembly purposes…
@brhfl do it!!!
@stardate820926
@brhfl
Allow me to add encouragement.
@foxcreek
You should really fucking fix that.
Sorry, "hoovered". Darn autocorrect.
@foxcreek Fucking autocorrect.
Seems like it would be great for bathroom use. Pair your phone, plug it in to charge, play some music, and take a dump!
@heavyq My dumps are much more musical now since I got a bathroom speaker.
@therealjrn
Where's the link to the musical dump?
@f00l Right here man. lol Although, I must say after getting my bathroom speaker--"Breakfast with the Beatles" is entirely different.
@therealjrn
Expected a diff link to a diff dump. Nice. ;)
So if this is plugged in to a wall outlet, can you still use the other plug in the outlet?
@f00l I don't think so after reading the blurb.
@f00l It covers up both outlets.
First bite on a Meh product! My Meh virginity is taken.
@ohcoasterfreak Cool! Mehlcome!
I am surprised this as sold over 1,000, however 10 bucks is what a USB charger costs at a store.
Are the pics gone?
is my mind gone?
it's one or the other.
@wew
Could be both....
True, true. I'll plead being a victim of western duality!
I had to order one of these because it managed to perfectly fill a very niche role in my home that I didn't even realize that there was a product that fit into. This was literally the thing that I didn't know that I needed until I just found out it existed.
Tiny-Unwieldy-Cheese
I bought 2 h8rs
gloating-rustic-crook
I just received my speakers and they kick ass. Now im gonna enjoy a beer in the shower. L8r losers.
Just got my speaker today. I initially thought this was such a weird concept, but now after plugging it in I'm mad I didn't buy more. This is a brilliant concept! It sounds good for what it is and for what it will be used for. The outlet and USB port is makes this a great purchase. Nice packaging.

Thank goodness it was only $10!
I just received mine too and since everyone had thoroughly lowered my expectations with all of the earlier negative comments my expectations were low enough that I have actually been very impressed by it. So thank you to everyone who had bad things to say about it initially.
