Good god, what did I do to deserve this?
All kidding aside, huge thanks to @cinoclav for, well, mostly for putting up with my harassment for a month. It’s obviously all been in good fun and obviously will not be stopping any time soon – and in fact, may be increasing due to this turn of events.
I suppose a supplementary thanks is also due to @tinamarie1974 for her constant support and backup for @cinoclav’s counter-harassment.
Clearly the very last bit of July’s blame also goes to those two for their relentless and ultimately successful campaign for August goat, as well as all the rest of you bandwagoners that showed no originality, jumped on, and offered your support.
I will in no way be able to fill the very very large shoes that have been left behind after this past month’s excellent goatdom, but I’ll do what I can.

It can also be = 1. Depends on your preferred operator precedence. Do you do PEMDAS or BODMAS?
Basically, if you do division first, you get 16. If you do multiplication first, you get 1.

as I was taught that you would completely resolve the implied multiplication of the parenthetical before moving on with the order of operations.
Also once you’ve completed the PE part, the MD and the AS parts should be performed left to right – the MD is performed as one step (as is the AS)
basically, though, it seems that at the end of the day, the equation is just poorly written and somewhat ambiguous

PEMDAS specifies that once the parentheses and exponents have been solved, multiplication and division are to be done from left to right, as are addition and subtraction. As others are taught elsewhere in the world, the order is performed differently and their answer is 1. Since most of us here live in the United States, I’m sticking with what is generally taught here and still declare 16 to be the ‘most correct’ answer. Besides, I asked Google.

I know people who stopped because of all the best-seat-location Tix being pre-reserved and going to “promotional partners” and “sponsors” and “big commercial partners of the venue”. I think scalpers often get to re-sell many or most of those.
Then scalpers get the best of what’s remaining.
Blink and … The best 2,000 or 10,000 or more seats are sold or reserved for rich people or for scalpers before the Tix even go on sale to fan clubs. Let alone before the general sale.

I can only think of two instances where I could not get a pre-sale code (U2, had to join the fan club) and this current cluster fuck with the Blues. I do not understand how an entire arena can be sold out prior to pre-sale or general sales for the public. Seems unfair!

Normally just one big bowl out as they eat that at different times. Due to the 18 year old who is seriously underweight and eats more food if I give her wet food, I feed some wet food twice a day and then they graze on dry (when she dies the rest of them will not be happy kitties as their wet food will be cut back significantly). Until I put out new dry. Seriously they heard me messing with the bag, came running and I could barely get out of the way fast enough. The older bag must have been on the stale side or something once it reached near the bottom (I do have a really good clip I shut it with that keeps it pretty air tight though).

@moonhat far left on top is campus kitty (Thing Thing) - poor baby was abused, most of her teeth broken off at the gum line and rotted, dumped on campus right before graduation and is the sweetest, most grateful kitty. She looks a lot Goat Kitty (aka Lizzy) except she is smaller and no star on her forehead.

@moonhat Will do. She gets lots of pets and kisses. Once she really trusted me she became a serious cuddle cat (she used to flinch when you’d pet her head, doesn’t any more). I can’t believe she was abused the way she was and is still willing to trust. On campus she came right up to me and didn’t struggle when I picked her up.
@Kidsandliz she sure knew what she was doing, she’s no dummy! I’m soooo glad that she did, she ended up exactly where she needs to be!
@moonhat That poor baby needed mouth surgery as she had bone chips loose under her gums, needed rotted tooth roots pulled out… She was missing most of her teeth and now her mouth looks a bit funny due to the surgery, but at least now she is out of pain. The vet guessed that she was kicked in the mouth. People who do that kind of thing to animals need jailed. Worst part is she probably was illegally in a student dorm room since she was dumped right at the end of the term.
There were three 6 or so mo out kittens loose on campus too. They weren’t feral as they slept on top of each other in the sunshine out in the open. Ferals don’t do that. They stay pretty hidden or are on the edge of bushes, etc. I couldn’t catch them as they were too scared. I was putting food out for them. Then when my job was done I found the agriculture students who were feeding ferals on campus and had them put food out for those guys near our building.
@Kidsandliz oh that’s good, I hope the ag students are still taking Carr of the kittens. And as for animal cruelty- you don’t need to convince me. It infuriates and upsets me to no end and Wish animal cruelty laws were harsher. Grrrr.

No blame here because it all worked out in the end.
Repaired my daily driver car today. CV axle assembly, motor mount, and wheel bearing/hub assembly, plus all the various smalls associated with those repairs. All in about $400 (I’m particular about not using cheap generic parts on these things). Easily would have been 3x that amount if I had a shop do the repairs, so I’m pleased with the savings.
I probably used about 20 pairs of those vinyl gloves several of us got from Walmart last year, so that investment continues to pay off.
The only downside was working on the car in the 112* heat. 🥵
So basically, since there’s no blames, I guess I’m really just stopping by to greet the new Goat
and to whine about the heat.

Super blame: I have a horrid day at work coming up. Too many patients, not enough of me. Schedulers that can’t understand plain English and Doctors who are imbeciles that order tests for all the wrong reasons.
At least my weekend was outstanding. But since our goat obviously doesn’t work weekends he gets absolutely no credit for that.

@lseeber I always maintain it for my patients. What they don’t see behind the scenes is irrelevant to them. It’s situations like our registrars screwing up that bothers me the most because that’s something that is obvious and affects the patients since they’re sitting there waiting. When I’m upset about the day it’s generally because I feel like the mistakes of others doesn’t allow me to provide the patient care that I strive for.
@cinoclav Oh yeah. I can totally understand your frustration. Especially when health and lives are at stake. My husband was ATC and he especially hated it when someone handed off a plane into his vector and they weren’t paying attention to the distance between planes. Dangerous.
So, you can truly say, “lack of preparation on your part DOES constitute an emergency on my part!” (instead of “doesn’t”)

@lseeber Arggghhhhh… just found out that the maple is gonna have to come down. It’s such a beautiful tree (and I don’t know why I put silver maple, it’s a sugar maple) but the arborist said it will cost way too much to try to save it and stabilize it initially and then cost more down the line. Appx 7k to deal with it initially. ick. Gonna cost a couple k just to take it down and get the roots up. BLAME on the escaped scape goat!.
@lseeber Can’t stand the mature silver maples in my yard. Always dropping branches. Can’t wait for them to come down. Replacing with a white oak. Pin oaks are too common here, and won’t put another maple in, for sure. Just have to watch the soil acidity with the acorns is all.
I’m not far enough south to plant southern live oaks.
You might get someone to take down the tree for the firewood (I did mine, and just dealt with the stump) or maybe a craft lumber company if the wood is good enough to do that with. (TWSS)

It’s actually a sugar maple (I corrected that in my 2nd post here) and it’s beautiful. Particularly when it’s blazing orange. But it has basically what’s called bark inclusion and the bark is growing into the tree deeply into a seam. It will ultimately split one half of the tree off. It was a selling point when I bought this house because it is beautifully appointed in the center front yard. I have some oaks and I’m probably going to have 2 hickories taken down because they’re making a mess in my back yard And they are in a very tight, confined space and one is almost up against the walled brick patio out back.
I have had people take down trees for the wood in other places I’ve lived but won’t do that here. It is close to the house and there is a huge root system that will need removing and it is close to power lines. I also have a sprinkler system installed and they’ll all have to know what they’re doing so as not to destroy that. They must be insured as I don’t want any damage done to neighbors either.

WTF Apple??? BLAME!!!
So my phone stopped having the camera click nose and google maps voice directions went away. I couldn’t figure out how to get them back, the internet not withstanding. So I went to apple. The so called “genius” ran a bunch of diagnostics, said my phone was fine, thus it might be a software problem. So I asked him to see if his phone had that problem (we were running the same system). His did.
On my way out the door I asked a sales person the same thing since I figured it takes 3 points to make a straight line so to speak. Well that kid asked to see my phone, swiped up, showed me the volume there was off. I didn’t realize the buttons on the side of the phone and that thing could operate independently since apple maps had its voice. Sheesh. That kid knew more than the so called tech support kid.
I suspect some of those support kids don’t know what to do if the diagnostics software doesn’t tell them. No wonder I have 3 different, conflicting opinions on what is wrong with my laptop screen.

Walmart bikes tend to be awful. They aren’t adjusted correctly or something and people tend to quit riding them within a month.
Also the bike ought to be fitted to the person (frame size compared to you) and the intended use (racing, touring, off-road, hybrid, etc).
I’m not a bike expert in any sense. But I suspect you with be suited to a touring or hybrid bike.

Had you not purchased, a better alternative might have been to get a used one from a group of biking fiends who restore bikes off Craigslist. They usually want to encourage biking and will take the time to match the person to a correctly tuned and fitted bike.
Since you already have a bike:
You could just return it to WM.
Or you could take it to a bike shop.
See first if you and the bike are the right size for each other. If not, then return the bike to WM. The WM salesperson should have at least made sure to sell you the right size bike. So that’s fair.
If the bike is the right size for you, and you wanna keep trying, get the bike shop to adjust it. This should help a lot. It might cost something like $50. Worth it.
Or if you have a friend who is a biking fiend, perhaps that person will do all this for free and some more besides.
Also there are YouTube vids about how to adjust your bike properly. Free except for tools and learning curve. Once you know what you are doing, I don’t think it’s difficult.

I also won’t rule out adjustments. If the bike is not properly adjusted for height and reach, you’re not going to be able to get the most out of your muscles. If your feet can reach the ground while seated, it’s probably too low.

Then life changed and I stopped for a couple decades, when I tried again every muscle and nerve from my thighs on down were screaming after 20 minutes …
All just to say, it may take some getting used to again. Getting a properly fit bike is good so you minimize hurting yourself and better utilize those neglected muscles. And it may take a little longer to get used to it than “back then”. Start with just riding around on level areas before you take on a hill.

Fucking mega blame: I was attempting to scrub down my front porch (read clean the bird shit) and I decided to scrub down the rocking chairs on my porch. I lifted one of the seat cushions and was spraying it down (moving it back and forth, wiggling it, etc) and when I turned it over it was crawling with WASPS and this HUGE honeycomb ! It is like the size of my hand!! OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!
I dropped it and kept spraying the water in that direction, which seemed to keep the wasps from following me THANK GOD!!
Tried to load a pic bit it is not working. Blaming the scapegoat for that too!
So now my porch is still dirty but the hose is up there…running, with my soap and broom and I am terrified to go collect everything. Also, I feel like they are crawling on me phuf!!!

I took my shiny new Regal Unlimited Pass to the movies today to see Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark which had awesome reviews. The projector broke. The one movie with an acceptable start time was 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. It sucked. A lot.
Still it was better than staying home.

Blame the scapegoat for my tooth having a crack that means I won’t get a root canal, but an extraction. Insurance won’t pay for that, I have to get gangrene in the root for that to kick in.

Blame: I’m not feeling very well (probably acid reflux that doesn’t seem to want to resolve itself despite having taken some medicine and having given it time to kick in) and I have an outdoor wedding to attend in a little over an hour from now. @Kidsandliz I was up because first my husband came home from work and woke me up, get back to sleep and my dog, Daisy decides she has to go out RIGHT NOW. Take her out, she tries to run off, we argue about it, I win and we go back inside. But that woke me up so I was going to read for awhile. Realized I had not looked at Meh and that kept me more awake than asleep. I finally shut off the screen and just wished for sleep…guess it finally came.
2:15am Pacific time here. Still not asleep either. Blame!
Blame because my grass is way beyond needing a trim and I have not had time to pull out the lawn mower.

My brother (who lived in a well-to-do neighborhood) had a neighbor who never mowed the back yard. You couldn’t tell from the street. It made me wonder what the inside of the house looked like.

She won’t come outside (I’ve never met her but she is very gracious in emails) and she doesn’t mow, cut back hedges or anything. A neighbor across the street who owns House Beautiful, calls the city on her to get her lawn mowed. A couple of neighbors have done it once or twice. I did some a time or 2 but, doesn’t seem that she could care less. Bad part is, she has a teenage son and he doesn’t do much either. Although, he and 2 friends were out there mowing the front about 2 weeks ago. It’s so long it just keeps choking the mowers. The back however wasn’t mowed. I’m considering a privacy fence.

@tinamarie1974 Got it all done yesterday. Ended up having to do a lot of raking first. Sticks, Hickory nuts and sweetgum balls all over from the previous storm. I think it was the most difficult day I’ve had working out there since I’ve been in this house. It was 92 degrees and I refused to find out what the humidity was figuring it would make it worse if I knew. But it was high. Found 5 stinkin’ cottontail holes (they’ve been chewing down all my ornamentals) and I’ve used rabbit and deer repellent til you can smell my yard a mile away!

Not sure if it works for rabbits but my dad put dog hair out around the yard and it keeps the deer away. When he was at the groomer he mentioned the deer issue. Groomer went to the back and came out with a small bag of different dog hair.
Said the deers smell all the different hair and assume there are a lot of dogs in the yard and move on. It worked and things are finally growing in his garden

I haven’t done that but I’ve used wolf and coyote urine and that didn’t help.
I know a dog would help and this is the first time in my life I’ve been dogless but since my life was in such an upheaval after hubbies passing and I’m on the move a lot, it wouldn’t be fair to a dog to take one on at this point. Hopefully soon when things get settled more. I am thinking about putting up an 8’ privacy fence along the back property line where the deer usually jump the lowest spot. But that won’t take care of the cottontails. bang, bang!

BLAME!!!
Picked up my cats after being gone 2 weeks and my 18.5 year old is now 5.04 pounds down from 5.6 and has a cold. She is spending the night at the vet. The 3 year old cat might have a cold too (she is sneezing - my older one was clearly sick and the person caring for them didn’t even notice).
And the carpet is soaked and moldy. This apt building has motel style AC/heater units and the water dripping down the bricks from upstairs is soaking my wall and rug as it flows across my unit and into the apt. Looking at the wall it has had damage like this in the past. I don’t even want to think about the mold in the wall.
And my 6 year old laptop screen is dying. Need to do some serious wiggling and flexing to get it to stop having lines all over and only blue colors.

@tinamarie1974 I feel ya. Have a molar with daily increasing levels of pain now. We’re up to a 4 today, and Ibuprofen ain’t cutting it. Dentist sees a root canal in my future, or a complete extraction. Waiting for endodontist to call me back. Fingers crossed I’ll make it through the weekend and they can get me in next week.

@mike808 Get you in next week? What kind of dark ages dentistry is this? I broke a tooth (it’s been a few years, no worries now), and the dentist came in on a Saturday, cleaned it up, and put a temporary cap on it. I came in on Monday, and they made plans for a permanent cap, and less than two weeks later, it was all over. I love my dentist; he’s a keeper.
I’m really sorry to hear this. I advise a decent Bourbon until you can get in to the dentist, and not be in pain. Not kidding, BTW. A little swish across the tooth will help mightily.

Blame: I was out picking up barbeque today. There was a huge line and I was leaning against the door waiting for the line to move. Some terribly crabby old lady walked up from behind me to tell me I needed to SHUT the door and stand outside so flies didn’t get in the restaurant.
I may have rolled my eyes and sighed loudly at her and was told I am clearly a hoosier. I should explain that in STL hoosier is an insult meaning low class or trash. So rude!
I didn’t respond. I just went inside and shut the door leaving her outside. She then stood there telling others how to stand and not to open the door.
She was a crazy bitch…but not good crazy!

Check out the 4 Hands (frozen) pizzas at Schnucks. Haven’t had the Sugarfire one yet, but the Mission Taco one was outstanding. They just launched, so stock up while they’re on sale. I got a couple from each place and so far, they nailed it with each recipe from each place.
@mike808 I actually hit Bandannas pretty often. There is also a great place in Kirkwood called Honey Pit, their bbq is great and the sides are amazing. If you do dessert (I don’t) they serve Blue Owl cakes/pies!
I will have to check out the place in Eureka. I remember when they had a Super Smokers, but didnt know there was a new option.

And I was thinking of Super Smokers Championship BBQ in Eureka. There was a place next door, too, but never tried them. SS was one of the other partners in Mike Mills’ Apple City team that started 17th Street BBQ (Fairview Heights closed, but are still in Marion, IL, afaik). The guys at Local Kitchen in Ballwin just smoked up a ham and maybe a shoulder today that smelled delicious. Probably a heritage hog from Todd Geisert.
@mike808 SS has been there a LONG time! Many, many years ago my senior class stole their huge pig statue and we stole a horse statue from somewhere close by as well. Both ended up in the quad for school bright and early one Monday morning. I recall it being pretty funny!
