I don’t even know if I can get a tattoo anymore. I’m on blood thinner and last time I went off them and had an iv put in (while I was off my blood thinner) I got a huge blood clot in my arm that lasted for six month. The blood clot hurt so bad and wouldn’t go away with any medicine they gave. The medicine also gave me huge/massive hematomas all over my stomach. It was hell my stomach was pure back and blue and painful for months.
I want the tattoo but I don’t know that reward is great enough for my life.
@ACraigL@eeterrific One place here runs a “business card sale” a few times a year, anything that fits on a card, in all black, for 35$. That would easily work for any of the logos and pay for itself in 4 IRKs or less.
Does a broken flask still meet the criteria? I would hate to get one and then be told it no longer qualifies.@ChadP…or whoever needs to approve ahead of time…

2- must post a newly dated photo during an “athon”
3- only “athons” in which an irk has been sold qualify
3- can only get one irk per “athon” and that’s the ink one

@Bretterson I understand. I find myself having to take a step back from some forums at times. I know when I do this I might miss out on things that I really want to know about, but it’s a gamble that I take, I guess.

@Kyeh they claim a finger is too small for the detail. Trying to find another place that can/will, but i have few options and they are so booked. I don’t want to tat just any part of my body, the finger I was excited about, most other parts of me not so much.

OFC, it’ll need to be easily photographable too.
The chart above is pretty accurate IMHO. It’s not really “painful” to be honest. More of a mild burning sensation…kinda like moderate sunburn then a stabby-stab-stab one.
The flask or standard logo is so simple it won’t take long at all either.
@brainmist All of my tattoos are in the red zones but none seemed that bad. The closer it is to bone the more sensitive it’s supposed to be, that being said the one on the top of my foot(my flask one) caused involuntary flinching more than any of my even less fleshy spots.

I (a friend, really) actually did locate someone who could do it… but my day was getting pretty busy, and also he wasn’t licensed and did it out of his home, which, despite a friend rec, seemed a teensy bit sketchier than I felt like getting with my skin, even for an IRK.
So instead I’m just gonna get a tattoo when life is less crazy, and then NEXT time? I’ll be ready.
Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as just missing this IRK though. This is a window to be allowed to get any Ink for IRKs until they open it up again…if they even do. I’ve waited a couple years to get in on it.
So, getting it in a week or month from now won’t apply.
They opened it up briefly last year after much nagging though! So, you might be able to get it and then annoy them enough!

@Kyeh@metaphore@PHRoG I actually do quite like the flask (and the old bubbling flask). Simple, cryptic to non-Mehtizens, and I’m a science type (although not chemistry).
So the major thing that was stressing me out so much I couldn’t add extra stress (like tattoo out of his house by a random unlicensed stranger) ended much less stressfully than expected. Thank goodness for people who just want to do their best and not fuck up others’ lives.

@cbilyak I think it is interesting how different artists give different advice. I was told to take my wrap off after 2 hours. My other tattoos were done by different people and they all seemed to vary a bit in how to approach the aftercare. But I always followed the advice of the professionals and never had a problem. And the tattoos will always look worse while healing. Hang in there. I love your Glen!
@gogrrl agreed! There is so much fluid in there so I did some research. The makers of the wrap he used have an info page and they recommend removing it after 24 hrs and replacing with a new one if the fluid build up is significant, so I just ran out and got more. Cleaned it and rebandaged it.
Trying again to see if it will show the picture and not just the link. Also, guy didn’t put any plastic over it, just sent us out without instructions or anything. (I guess no upsell was cool) It’s my first tiny line tattoo so I wasn’t sure if that was normal or not.
@kalma@PHRoG Something that small, it’s not necessary to cover it. I suggest you buy a small jar of Aquaphor (ointment) and use it to keep it moist. You will have a little scabbing. That’s normal.

Maybe next go around. Life just seems to be against me doing this, ie my dad was having his liver transplant one of the other times this was offered, my daughter was being born another time, etc…

Part of my interest in the tattoo is the bonus of alleviating the anxiety from trying to snag an IRK in real time lol.

Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as just missing this IRK though. This is a window to be allowed to get any Ink for IRKs until they open it up again…if they even do. I’ve waited a couple years to get in on it.
So, getting it in a week or month from now won’t apply.
They opened it up briefly last year after much nagging though! So, you might be able to get it and then annoy them enough!

I don’t know that another window will open. But if I get the tat now, if it opens again in the future, I won’t have to be in a flurry to meet that window. I’ll be prepared.

@Kyeh @metaphore @PHRoG I actually do quite like the flask (and the old bubbling flask). Simple, cryptic to non-Mehtizens, and I’m a science type (although not chemistry).
So the major thing that was stressing me out so much I couldn’t add extra stress (like tattoo out of his house by a random unlicensed stranger) ended much less stressfully than expected. Thank goodness for people who just want to do their best and not fuck up others’ lives.

@gogrrl I do, I just got it 24 hours ago and he said to keep the wrap on for 4 days. There are pockets of blood…kinda gross really.
@cbilyak I think it is interesting how different artists give different advice. I was told to take my wrap off after 2 hours. My other tattoos were done by different people and they all seemed to vary a bit in how to approach the aftercare. But I always followed the advice of the professionals and never had a problem. And the tattoos will always look worse while healing. Hang in there. I love your Glen!
@gogrrl agreed! There is so much fluid in there so I did some research. The makers of the wrap he used have an info page and they recommend removing it after 24 hrs and replacing with a new one if the fluid build up is significant, so I just ran out and got more. Cleaned it and rebandaged it.

Trying again to see if it will show the picture and not just the link. Also, guy didn’t put any plastic over it, just sent us out without instructions or anything. (I guess no upsell was cool) It’s my first tiny line tattoo so I wasn’t sure if that was normal or not.
@kalma technically, they should’ve at least sterilized and covered it with saran.
With mine, they used that 2nd skin stuff that stays on for about a week after sterilizing it.
Just keep it clean and moist with a good, clean, lotion and you’ll be fine.
@kalma @PHRoG Something that small, it’s not necessary to cover it. I suggest you buy a small jar of Aquaphor (ointment) and use it to keep it moist. You will have a little scabbing. That’s normal.

@cinoclav I am the FIRST person who ever got a Meh tattoo with @TheMeercat getting one later in that same first birthday where this was a thing (I think it was the 4th?) I’ve been here for all of them but yeah sometimes life happens and I don’t get to post in time.
I was here during the entire meh-rathon this year on and off but to put it nicely, my life is a zoo with special needs toddler twins so it took until late last night to be able to get time to get a photo posted.

And perhaps the date on the new ink isn’t s qualifier anymore.

It does make it hard for those of us who are shouldering some shit when the window opens. Like life isn’t hard enough, here’s one more thing we miss out on.
I’ve been dealing with crippling anxiety the past week or I would have finally gotten this tattoo. I barely did anything all weekend. so a “meh” tattoo would definitely match my mood lately.
Maybe next go around. Life just seems to be against me doing this, ie my dad was having his liver transplant one of the other times this was offered, my daughter was being born another time, etc…

@riceatusc Ugh, my drama isn’t nearly so traumatic, but I feel this. I know the birthday window is meant to focus on people who are invested, but for some of us? As dedicated as we may be, life events are overwhelming, and we don’t have the reserves to hustle for a tattoo to get some freebies.

Dang. I missed out on this again. Legitimately have been waiting to make this be my first tattoo if it was offered again and was planning to check back for the birthday celebration to see if there was a post and completely forgot. I would ask if someone could tag me in the future, but I’ve been terrible about checking emails so I probably would have missed it anyway. I will update my meh birthday calendar alert to include a reminder to check the forum for a post and hope to join in next year.
