@tweezak Did you see the news story recently about a little girl that got pulled into the air by a kite, during a kite festival? That was insane to watch! She was unharmed.
@tweezak As kids we were in NC on the barrier islands camping when the tail end of a hurricane blew up the coast (came ashore in North Florida, Atlantic side, winds were 74mph and it passed through in the middle of the night). The day after the storm passed through we decided to fly our kites, not realizing the string wasn’t strong enough. All of us kids lost our kites. Very sad day as flying our kites had been so much find while we were their with the steady breeze coming from off shore. We’d get them so high that we’d run out of string.
@PooltoyWolf@tweezak Yeah, but I wonder if that will terrify her forever?! It didn’t look like she was enjoying it, although some kids might have found it exciting…
@PooltoyWolf When I was a wee tyke I was at a kite festival and was given the chance to hold a 15’ Cody War Kite. It’s like a double box kite with wings. They were used to carry ropes or people from one ship to another. Someone had to hang onto me to keep me from being dragged down the beach. Super fun! I’ve been a kite fanatic ever since.
I was actually at the beach today. It was beautiful and in the low 60s with a light breeze. If you were in the sun it was super comfortable. We had a picnic and ate too much. On the way home we stopped at the oyster farm and got 2 dozen mediums which are about 8-9” long in the shell. Traffic home was light and moved well. All in all a great day.
Just going to the beach - walking along it, wading and swimming in it, checking out the creatures who dig into the sand or what you find in pools of water amongst rocks, seeing interesting shells and driftwood, watching the birds soar or run from the waves just to run back, the vast expanse of sky, after a storm… There is something about the breeze, the smell, the sound, and when anchored off the beach the rocking of the boat that is so peaceful and soothing.
After the storm on the way home after a trip for another purpose
I’m not a summer person in any way, so sunbathing in the sand is completely unappealing to me. But I do love being near or in the ocean. There’s something magical about it. I especially love it when the weather is a little cooler and the sun isn’t blazing down.
@jnicholson0619 How cold is the water there? I know in Maine (well pretty much north side of Cape Cod, Mass and north) the water is cold enough to make your skin red from the cold type of cold.
@Kidsandliz yeah, its cold. I definitely cant get more than toes in it. Its also really choppy. And super windy. So, theres no “laying a blanket down to sunbathe”, you’ll be chasing it all down the bench as it takes out little kids along its path.

beachcombing, especially for shark’s teeth
@jmoor783 love it at low tide, or when the sandbar is just out of the water.
@jmoor783
Florida?
Portions of Casey Key beaches are thick with them.
Beach shoes are necessary. Black or dark grey sand gets really hot midday.
@f00l When I visit South Carolina but I live a few hundred miles away in Virginia. Definitely when I visit Florida I look for teeth.
Sand in your ass crack.
@yakkoTDI You’re weird.
Spending time with the people whom you went to the beach with.
The best part? Leaving the beach. Among the recreational options, spending time on a sunny beach is probably near the bottom of my list.
Looking at the new fashions. I am glad less material is still the fashion trend.
Kayaking.
This!
@PooltoyWolf As long as you clean up his inflatable poop.
@tweezak Nonsense, he just lets out a little air sometimes.
@PooltoyWolf @tweezak Well then I hope no one is downwind of his farts!
@Kidsandliz @tweezak Another bonus: they don’t smell!
Though I haven’t done it in a long time I really love flying kites. I probably have over a grand invested in high end stunt kites.

@Kidsandliz @tweezak That sucks .-.

@Kyeh @tweezak I wonder that myself.

@tweezak Dude that is cool!
Not going to the beach!
Lying on a towel, in the sand, drink in hand, enjoying the beach breeze
Good parts of NOT going to the beach:
But the best part of NOT going to the beach:
@phendrick I lost count of the amen’s!
Looking at the stars.
It’s been many years since I’ve gone to the beach during the day.

I like to sit or stand in the water and just kinda sway with the waves. Sometimes the turtles are nice.
Bikini’s
Watching the kids/grands playing… and bikinis too.
Watching the dogs play with utter joy!
Leaving.
People watching and a proper boardwalk. Otherwise, the beach sucks.
yep.
gittin nekid!
Fishing in the winter time and bikinis in the summer!
Going home with beach sand in your swim trunks…not a fan of the beach. Give me a nice pool every time.

@Kidsandliz You nailed it!
@Kidsandliz @PooltoyWolf My feelings exactly! So nicely put too - makes me want to go; I haven’t been to a beach for ages.
Seeing the sun rise and set while watching and listening to the tide is what I look forward to most. ( And boardwalk pizza !)

Also, boardwalks.
Leaving the beach. Ideally, leaving the sunburn there, too.
Chilling.

@f00l 10 stars for the giphy.
Shows best reason to go to the beach, and the best reason not to.
I live in Oregon. Most people don’t do any of those at the coast. And we pretty much call it the coast, not the beach.
