I watch way too much Food Network. It’s the background channel while I’m doing other things. Chopped has just gotten boring for me, although I like the new chopped sweets. I really like when they do Best kid baker shows. Duff Goldman is a great judge host and seeing some of the stuff little kids make is pretty cool.
I have tricked my wife into watching the Junior competition shows. “They are so cute”. I stomach the amateurs attempting to compete with the prodigies to have her watch with me.
I watched Cupcake Wars one time. They made some sort of horrible abomination cupcake with fish in it. I almost lost my lunch trying to watch in horror while they ate it. I cannot watch it and not think of that. Ugh.
Guy’s is personally the best for me right now but personally I would love to see Cutthroat Kitchen back or and hear me out have guy’s grocery game mix with Cutthroat Kitchen were they have make a crazy ass dish out of a hot dog run thru the store getting their ingredients but they have 15 mins and you toss in Robert Irvine in there too he able to push over shelf and stands and if he see and catches a shopper he can push their cart over and they have to go and grab everything and put it back in the cart then come the cutthroat kitchen part…then the next episode since time slot might of run out by then they cook for round one every 4 contests take 8 episodes to do the whole cooking game and Winner go one to masterchef where they have to beat Bobby Flay and become Iron Chef and get a half a million dollar salary working at Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen at Guy’s Flavor town but that only if they the green light to make a theatrical showing
My parents and high school taught me how to cook, but food Network taught me so much more.
I enjoyed chopped, cupcake wars, and others, but I think my favorite was the Halloween specials. They’d have to make some crazy Halloween display at the end. Don’t even remember what it was called.
Mom watches an absurd amount of Beat Bobby Flay. All of these shows are so macho and sensationalist compared to my fave, the Great British Bake-Off. Like…just calm down and bake things, please. Quit trying to be drama-mamas.
@UncleVinny Ageed. I’ve tried watching the competition shows but just can’t stomach all the contrived melodrama. Just STFU and cook the damn food!
I am so sick of “Reality Television” in general (with a few rare exceptions). It’s practically the only thing on anymore.
@Kyeh@tweezak I’ve had a Duff cake they suck. A woman who worked on my research floor had a tiered wedding cake from Duff just because she had money. She also had a sheet cake from her favorite local bakery. Her older sister brought the duff cake to work and no one touched it.
I’ll watch marathons of Cupcake Wars anytime, which is odd because I don’t like cupcakes and the host is a twat. But as others have said, The Great British Baking Show is exponentially better than any of them. No shenanigans, no manufactured drama, just baking. Really really good baking.
Only two competition shows I’ve ever watched are Top Chef and Great British Bakeoff but they aren’t on the food network. Not sure I’ve ever watched anything on the food network.
Throwdown with Bobby Flay was wonderful. The in-studio show he does now is rather meh, like most of them.
I enjoy the holiday competitions, Halloween Wars, Gingerbread competitions, Christmas and Thanksgiving baking, but its mainly because I’m a holiday-loving person and go overboard for all of them.
Cuthroat Kitchen, Alton Brown made it fun but he even said that he was playing a role, and the real Alton Brown was Good Eats Alton Brown… but then in later shows he really became much more cynical and sharp, so I think CTK changed him…
Iron Chef over Iron Chef America (except Alton does well on ICA as the emcee).
Anything with kids in competition is like jumping the shark, or wesley the weasle crusher defecating all over STTNG, or bringing someone’s kid on as crew on the Love Boat (which my parents watched at dinner so we had to) and ruining the show. Meh. Get thee gone foul brats.
It is Iron Chef… but NOT Iron Chef America. i love Alton Brown (and am really enjoying the things he is posting on YouTube from his house w/ his wife - as well as his “i can name this product and swear because we aren’t on network TV” episodes), but it doesn’t make up for the … less-ness of Iron Chef America.
I dunno. I have several favorites:
–Dialing for Donuts
–Home Chopping Network
–CBS Evening Stews
–M.A.S.H. Potatoes
–Bunsmoke
–The Soupy Sales Show
–Hoagie’s Heroes (which is a bit redundant)
–What’s My Lime?
–CHIPS
Lots of AB fans I see. He and wife Elizabeth are doing a live weekly YouTube show from home, Tuesdays at 7 eastern. It’s entertaining, check it out. Quarantine Quitchen, soon to be renamed…something else.
They really need to bring back Cutthroat Kitchen. That show was the best.
@bgcressman That is because Alton Brown is an evil genius!
@bgcressman yes I love Alton Brown and that show was great.
@JT954
@jmoor783 @JT954 I watched him bite an onion like that too.
@jmoor783 @JT954 Yes! Came here to make sure someone referred to the TRUE Iron Chef, not our, uhh, lackluster knockoff
@JT954 Yes, the original was the best.

@remo28 Yep, Kids Baking Championship. My oldest daughter loves it, and I love watching it with her.
@remo28 I love it too, except at the end when a kid gets sent home. Tugs at my heartstrings. I like the baking championships with grownups, too.
Good Eats…
Because neither cooking nor eating is a competition.
It should be pure pleasure.
As a sports junkie, ALL the cooking shows. Yeah, give me more competition. Even Beat Bobby Flay is on the play list until real sports returns.
@hchavers I just like the title of that show. He’s not my favorite, on any show he does. He’s no Alton Brown!
Ugh.
On Currently: Top Chef
Best Informative: Good Eats
Best Ever: Iron Chef

@Zigzagoon ok, I heard you out. That was a lot to take in without any paragraphs. My head started spinning. That show would be insane.
@Zigzagoon said “wall of text”
I’ve never even heard of any of them except Iron Chef. I don’t watch tv very often.
I really miss Food Network.
My parents and high school taught me how to cook, but food Network taught me so much more.
I enjoyed chopped, cupcake wars, and others, but I think my favorite was the Halloween specials. They’d have to make some crazy Halloween display at the end. Don’t even remember what it was called.
@RiotDemon Halloween Wars. My favorite too.
@sammydog01 yes! Thank you. Now I wonder if I can find reruns somewhere.
Mom watches an absurd amount of Beat Bobby Flay. All of these shows are so macho and sensationalist compared to my fave, the Great British Bake-Off. Like…just calm down and bake things, please. Quit trying to be drama-mamas.

@macromeh she watches the Property Brothers obsessively, too. Like…what is this schmaltzy bullshit?!
The Great British Baking Show. 🧁
@Kyeh Beat me to it. Food Network is too Hollywood
@tweezak I agree, and those cakes that they make on Duff’s show don’t look like anything you’d actually want to eat.
@Kyeh @tweezak I’ve had a Duff cake they suck. A woman who worked on my research floor had a tiered wedding cake from Duff just because she had money. She also had a sheet cake from her favorite local bakery. Her older sister brought the duff cake to work and no one touched it.
@jml326 @tweezak I’m not surprised - they’re all fondant, and fondant isn’t really food, except technically. That must have been some wedding, though!
Yan Can Cook!
Oh, wait, that was PBS. That was the best show aside from Cookin’ Cheap!
Good eats 100%, toss in some feasting on asphalt and I’m good.
Haven’t watched Food Network in years but I did see a bunch of episodes of Nailed It on Netflix at a friend’s house. That was fun!
@callow you Nailed It
@callow wait, did just give a compliment or an insult? I’m not sure
Not Food Network but I still love Man vs. Food. Even though Casey kind of sucks. I miss Adam. Another quirky favorite is Carnival Eats.
Twitch has an almost 24/7 Original Iron Chef channel completely dubbed with my favorite, Chef Chen Chenichi. It’s the best!
Good Eats. Alton Brown. Best weirdest cooking show.
Static and noise.
I miss Cutthroat Kitchen.
Competition shows manufacture too much fake drama! I just like watching Alton Brown teach me how to cook!
@LowFatBacon This!
I guess Pro Wrestling just wasn’t enough for some people.
@LowFatBacon @macromeh This is why Cutthroat Kitchen is so good.
I’ll watch marathons of Cupcake Wars anytime, which is odd because I don’t like cupcakes and the host is a twat. But as others have said, The Great British Baking Show is exponentially better than any of them. No shenanigans, no manufactured drama, just baking. Really really good baking.
Almost any of the “Kids” show, the Baking Challange, Chopped, etc. It’s usually a good example of good sportsmanship
Cutthroat Kitchen! For sure!
Only two competition shows I’ve ever watched are Top Chef and Great British Bakeoff but they aren’t on the food network. Not sure I’ve ever watched anything on the food network.
MXC
All reality shows suck, including the cooking ones.
Who cares about these stupid cooking shows anyway?
I clicked on Chopped, but I also like Beat Bobby Flay.
Cutthroat Kitchen was worth it just for Alton’s maniacal glee.
Easily Cutthroat Kitchen, but Guy’s Grocery games was fun too. Most others are too dramatic.

30% Iron Chef.
(he’s 30% iron)

@afurball
AB has also left Good Eats: The Return hanging in limbo. So that may be what he works on post-COVID.
