I really liked the Throwdown with Bobby Flay, ran in the mid 2000s for several years. I haven’t really enjoyed any of the others he’s done since. Didn’t care for Chopped, or Cutthroat Kitchen after the initial season.
But my favorite of all competition shows ran only one single episode; unfortunately even though Good Eats has been out of production for more than 10 years Food Network keeps episodes behind a paywall; you might be able to catch it from your cable subscription:
@llangley I think maybe two people were cooking up something up in the kitchen that was not particularly “food” in the usual sense.
We don’t know what killed them, but we can guess at approximately what position they were in when they died. (and maybe whoever was making the chalk outline may have messed up a little on the legs)
I will always have a fondness for the excessive drama of the original Iron Chef and the sports-styled color-commentary but Great British Bake Off is better structured and the season long competition is an actual judge of the competitors, IMO.
@tweezak She always looks like she’s modeling for a teeth-whitening product - Crest White Strips! (yeah, I know most of you guys aren’t looking that high up.)
@tweezak I used to love her shows. But the absolute best was when she and Alton Brown were on specials together (Thanksgiving Live! and some others) and were bouncing barbs off eachother.
They had a show I think it was called the great chocolate dessert bake off or something like that. It was cool, but then again, I also like Gordon Ramsay.
Iron Chef was pretty spectacular when it came out. ICA wasn’t so bad, but it wasn’t as insane (or as promoted) as IC(og).
Personally I will take MasterChef as a decent follow-up to both. It has a lot of product placement while not being as acerbic as the more direct competition shows (say Hell’s Kitchen).
Hell’s Kitchen
@cengland0 just coming to say this! Actually most anything Gordon!
@fjp999 I don’t care about the cooking, I watch it for Ramsey and how he catches the smallest of errors. I also like his management skills.
Iron Chef America is the only one I have watched more than one episode of. Most cooking show are not very good.
Cutthroat Kitchen
@codejoe I came here to say this. I miss that show.
Justin Wilson
Not a competition, just good food
@2many2no Depends on the year. I loved his early shows but his last couple years were hard to watch due to his aging.
Good Eats (Alton Brown)
@hchavers great cooking show, but not a cooking competition.

@mediocrebot still doing that weird shit with appendages, I see!

@xobzoo excellent theory!
@llangley @xobzoo alternative theory: some kind of centaur thing.
@mediocrebot One if the races of being from Babylon 5, which was creating an accident for sone one else, but caught in their own trap.
@llangley @xobzoo Or two victims with one lying on top of the other.
@Kidsandliz @llangley @xobzoo Or maybe the “death” of that weird appendage phase?
I will always have a fondness for the excessive drama of the original Iron Chef and the sports-styled color-commentary but Great British Bake Off is better structured and the season long competition is an actual judge of the competitors, IMO.
Master chef & next level chef both with Gordon Ramsey and just for HAHA’s worst cooks in America.
@ragingredd I really like Gordon Ramsey, but the again I am a Geeky Nerdy person, I do have unique/ weird taste.
@mycya4me same
The Great British Baking Show
@tweezak She always looks like she’s modeling for a teeth-whitening product - Crest White Strips! (yeah, I know most of you guys aren’t looking that high up.)
@Kyeh @tweezak Hey now! I looked up most of the time but she was the one with the packed display case distracting customers.
you’re an all-star
@tweezak I used to love her shows. But the absolute best was when she and Alton Brown were on specials together (Thanksgiving Live! and some others) and were bouncing barbs off eachother.
Anyone remember Ready, Steady, Cook? Or the US version Ready, Set, Cook? They were friendlier competitions.
The excesses of the original Iron Chef and the hilarious commentary are so nostalgic.
Fish ice cream! Beluga caviar! Potatoes!

I hate to cook so I don’t watch cooking shows… I click right on by.
The Great British Baking Show is the only one I can take anymore.
Hells Kitchen or any with Gordon Ramsey
@joshirelan I agree!
Any of the Mythical Kitchen episodes where they compete is better than most TV show good competitions.
