Well done!! . I’m very happy for you. Not so much for the chicken. I got a Ninja Pressure Cooker Pro with the same chicken on the box in the Back to School mehrathon. I got similar useless stuff, like you, packed inside. What amazed me, besides getting a great pressure cooker, was meh managed to stuff a small platform dolly with wheels and close the box without breaking anything.

@steelopus Actually it is a sane number to have if you live in a place that not longer provides bags in grocery (or other) stores and you have to buy and bring your own.

@steelopus I just checked my order history-- 460 orders placed, plus at least another 40 at sidedeal, and that included 27 IRKs (granted, dozens of these orders went to friends/family). So I’ve placed over 500 orders since 2015!

@Kidsandliz @steelopus I mean the whole bring your own bag is never going to look sane in Kroger or Walmart here. But In Aldi these would.

I don’t go there much so if I accumulate enough I might try it at kroger

Here it’s a 10 cents per bag charge if you don’t bring your own. I’m actually happy to bring my own - I have some great insulated ones for frozen stuff, and some that are thin nylon-ish fabric that fold up really small so I can clip them to my purse.

Realistically I have seen ~50% wear masks at the very, very height when they started following governor orders. Vaccine stats hit around 50-60% statewide. Always way way lower in my county.

Current state wide up to date I think is 16%.

I have never. Ever. In the state seen someone use their own bags. I know I’m going to get weird looks. Even from the cashier’s probably. Which is fine.

Funny thing is I remember shopping in the late 90s Meijer would give you a nickle per plastic bag of you brought them in and reused them.

Once because of the stacking/doubling coupons dad went through first, handed me his coupons, i used them an a bag. They had to give me 4 cents back. So. It’s not always been a big deal here. And. Dad was pretty good at the coupons/rules

Cat Litter wise I have two systems going cause there’s so many boxes.

I use a 30 gallonish bag to line the kitchen trash can. I scoop ~half the boxes into tidy cat buckets which mostly hold it in.

Once I clear an outside can, indoor trash bag goes out, as buckets get filled at least three get dumped into that bag. Along with the cat food bags.

Then I have like 3-4 boxes of Walmart special kitty boxes. Because they get dumped into the litter boxes, scooped back into the bags in the box. When the bag is full pulling out, twist it off, i into the second can. They can handle the full 40lbs. I can handle 3 per can.

What it looks like for me is lifting two ~120lbs cans into the back of the expedition and paying $5 for each can.

Twice a month. So ~$20 a month for hauling it to the community dumpster with all my other (very minor) trash. Which. It’s a nice short drive.

But I have 20 of the assholes. And I don’t know what yours charges. Never mind what people can lift. Or required fees in municipalities. Or weight limits. There’s a lot of factors.

I just roll in, go I have two cans, heres $10. I’m fine in 5 minutes

@Kidsandliz also I’ve just used the cat food bags to scoop into. Once you get a rotation. They are very sturdy. You know. In one end out the other.

This assumes using dry food though

@Kidsandliz @unksol I still have a subscription to the local paper and have saved bags from that for years; they’d be kind of small for multiple cats, though. I also save all those plastic bags that stuff gets delivered in, the white ones with the gray interior. The newspaper bags, tied off, go into one of those, then into the trash.

@unksol @kyeh thanks for the suggestions. I should have saved about 8 empty big bags of dry food that have a very nice seal across the top. Got them when a charity was giving away cat and dog food and few cat owners were in line so I got like a dozen bags. I still have 3 left. Wish I had thought to save them. The rumor here is that Walmart and Kroger will stop providing free bags around here.

Well this convo took a strange turn.

Anyway - if you have cats and don’t have multiple Litter Genies, you should change that and… get multiple Litter Genies. They’re worth every penny up front, and then you can buy generic bag refills and save money down the line. Waaaaaaaay less plastic waste going into landfills this way.

@steelopus you lost me. How is a small litter genie plastic bag more efficient than. Just using the bag your trash is already in or the bag the litter/food already comes in? Buying a separate container and bags uses waaaaaay more plastic and costs money

@steelopus 20 cats. 8 litter boxes with litter. 4 just pans, and 4 with pine pellets. But yes it is a lot. There’s several ~12 cat people around. Have you missed the pet/goat threads?

Not sure how the amount to dispose of is related to this. Just disposal methods. If it’s one cat or a couple I’m sure it could be the same/in the trash pick up once full.

I only take it to the convenience center because I’m out in the country and it’s cheaper/easier. And often heavy cause. Yes it is a lot

@steelopus and for what it’s worth I used to just have three cats. Then mom and 4 kittens were… Caught. Mistakes were made. So yes. It’s a lot now. But I did the same thing when there were three of them. Less litter boxes obviously/using the food bag sometimes is new.

@unksol I have three cats and four boxes and it would take a month for them to fill up a 13lb dry food bag or longer to fill a garbage bag… and I’d rather not keep a stinking bag full of slowly degrading cat waste sitting in (nor outside) my house for that long.

And it can be done. When it was just kitkat I was looking into it like 12 years ago. Then ended up with summer and she just… Was not going to happen. So the litterbox stayed. And Bambi… Now the current mess.

So I have been thinking about getting a automatic litter box that cleans itself for a while now. I don’t remember seeing that cat genie though and I definitely hadn’t heard of that stuff that you use, bark or beans? (I’m sorry, just too much going on around here right now and I can’t even think!) Just wanted to thank you for mentioning those things, I’ve got new stuff to research on my quest for the best litter box system. And my guy Tuc thanks you too!

I took it over for a handful, then someone did one, then someone else did another one, then someone suggested one and no one took that person up on it. I have time now. I could run another one if people were interested. Or someone else could run it. @cbilyak Oh, absolutely. I’ve definitely been pleased with things others didn’t like. The glitter will go to my neices, so that will be nice. A whole box is excessive, in my opinion, but they’ll either use it or donate it to programs they like.
I should have said worst for me. Usually, there is at least something I might personally use. This time, no.
But that is how these work. I donate more than I keep, and that is fine.

Do it twice and you were out (names were passed to me and I passed them on). That is also why it was nice to have a couple of people who only wanted to send and not get. We always needed a few of those people to send to the folks who got screwed.

Those dumb trackers are a Bluetooth transmitter. Assuming they aren’t garbage at that one function. They could be used for other things. Like STEM. Maybe? IDK. I dislike throwing things in the trash. But. Trackers…

@kcface I used to be so excited to get the IRK I won. Now I just pay more money to be completely disappointed. The quality and quantity of the items has fallen so low the IRK is no longer fun. I understand the regret in the name but until recently I got somerhing that made the IRK worthwhile. The last few I’ve won were more than worthlessness. The highlight was I got 2 mismatched shoes, a competely broken stuff box and a different IRK 200 trackRs. Not worth the $5 it used to be and absolutely not worth the current prices. I was hoping it was just my bad luck but its been consistent since they changed the IRK price. I wish you all luck and an IRK at least worth the $5 it should cost, I’m done.

That’s really interesting. At first I thought it was supposed to be a view from the Lake, but that isn’t the case. I’m pretty sure it’s just a weird collage of Cleveland buildings. I think the background building on the left is the West Side Market and that wouldn’t be visible from any shot of downtown (without it being a fairly high vantage point). The Science Center blends in to the Terminal Tower, but Key Tower should be behind it if viewed from the Lake (Key is also on the wrong side of Terminal).

With IRKs, you’re paying for an experience, not a product with any realistic value…they’re pretty damn clear about that…always have been.

Should have known that I would get that, and deservingly so. However, I never said the infamous “I’m never shopping here again.” LOL. I obviously am still dropping in from time to time to see if there is anything that I can’t live without and how the IRK scene is looking. It just seems that every time that I do, 90% or more of the revealing members are complaining & saying it is their last IRK. I guess it would seem that more than anything, that Meh just “classed” me out of the IRK being an entertaining way to throw money away. At $5 or $10, maybe even the occasional $20 I could justify affording it, but I just don’t make enough to regret giving any more than that to someone to continue to get richer.

The Trakrs are what brought me to Meh in the first place, so I can’t totally resent them. And I was able to use one on my TV remote until they killed the damn app.

@Kyeh I too bought them on meh when there was a working trackR app. Loaded it on my iPad. Can still add trackRs and use the locate function. Nothing else seems to work, like crowd find. Don’t dare sign out of the app. Now, I just need to find 20 items that I worry about losing. So far, I just have them on two sets of keys and my Surface.

@Bretterson so I got two. One in a box and one not. Pirate Shipping is cheap and uses UPS. I can send them to you for postage if you are still interested in getting your hands on them. I don’t know when I’ll be next in Cleveland to give them to you that way (or mail them from there for less postage). It looks like each building is an individual sticker (I’ll have to look more carefully to be positive) so you can arrange the skyline how you want.

@Kidsandliz I’ve been battling a fruit fly invasion, so the bug zapper might be a useful indoors appliance. Kinda meh otherwise. (I think I’m the only person excited to have received paint.)

@brainmist Vacuum them up with a wand attachment. Then immediately take the vacuum cleaner outside and liberate them. If you don’t do that they will just get out inside. Don’t ask me how I know that.

@Kidsandliz Interesting that each building is a separate sticker. How much would it be to ship? (Pirate Ship actually does UPS and USPS; I’m guessing USPS would be less in this case.)

@Bretterson I don’t know. I"ll have to go get it weighed and figure out what to put it in (don’t really want to fold it in half in case the fold doesn’t come out so may need to cut apart a box to create a triangle shape to put them in. Can’t do anything about it until Thursday though. Whisper me your zipcode so I can put that in as I need that to get the price (well and I have to make the box first too). Also do you want the new one left in the box or taken out to save weight? The other one didn’t come in a box.

@djslack I once got an all-in-one computer in a fuko, shipped in the original box. Except the styrofoam was missing and a bunch of other random hard stuff was tossed in. It was all rolling around in there and there were holes in the box. Instead of coming at the regular time with a doorbell ring it came early and the guy delivering it dropped it and ran- I watched him. I felt kind of sorry for him too.

The computer did not work.

@gogrrl My mom was a teacher. There was a mountain of stuff both in the classroom and about 4 metal 18" deep shelves in the basement. She gave a lot of it to the incoming kindergarten teacher and the other remaining one. We kids took a bunch of the scholastic books and put them aside until our kids (or kids we didn’t have yet) were old enough for them.

@melanie413 That’s an 18650 lithium battery, the most common size used in good pocket LED flashlights. Those can be had easily on eBay or Amazon. (Any claim for output lumens in excess of 750 for that form factor is almost certainly BS; most of them run between 300 and 600 in reality. You will see truly absurd numbers claimed.)

@werehatrack Thanks. I did try it in a couple of rechargeable flashlights we have because i do love flashlights, but it hasn’t worked in the ones I have tried so far. I will keep trying though.
