@haydesigner Well, assuming/pretending you (or someone else) is looking for an actual answer, it’s because most people don’t like the crust as much as the toppings. Round pizzas minimize the amount of untopped crust.
And tradition. Humans are creatures of habit. (from what I’m told)
@werehatrack Also interesting/hilarious that you asked for a square inside, but got a hexagon instead. (though it did get the outer octagon correct, which is better than the next attempt)
@kuoh@werehatrack Wellll… it did put two extra (pointless) edges at the top, so technically could be called an octagon. I would still ask for a refund, though.
@werehatrack@xobzoo I think the definition of an octagon is that it has 8 equal length sides enclosing an area. Technically that would just be a polygon.
@kuoh I’d say it has a firm belief that pizza should be round… but I don’t know where that could come from. I’ve seen a lot more non-circular pizzas than I’ve seen non-rectangular sandwiches.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@mediocrebot The only part of that which could be considered “correct” is the presence of a pizza, a box, and potentially a table.
The pizza is round, sitting inside the box which is square, and they “table” looks more like flooring…
And in order to answer the original question.
Because you can stack boxes unassembled flat and make them into assembled boxes much more easily if they are square/ rectangular. Having assembled many thousands of these in a prior lifetime I can vouch for the ease with which you can take a piece of flat, pre-crimped, pre-cut cardboard and make it into a box that is square in just a few seconds. Assembling a box that is round is much more complicated, or takes up much more space.
@chienfou it would be even more efficient if the pizza inside wasn’t sliced. A whole round pie doesn’t fall apart as easily (especially if it’s stacked with garlic knots)
So why aren’t pizzas square then?
@haydesigner There was the Little Caesars Pan Pan, a long long time ago.

@haydesigner @xobzoo
Plus it’s hard as s*** to hand toss the square Pizza!
/showme a square pizza in a round box
@mediocrebot, ummm…. ROUND?!?
@mediocrebot Halfway there. Except that the pizza has turned into a pizza-topped cake or something.
@haydesigner @mediocrebot @xobzoo I like that the pizza slice outside the box is obviously from a round pizza.
/showme a round pizza box with a square pizza inside of it
@mediocrebot
I give up.No, no, I must never give up! (until it’s too boring)/showme a round pizza box with a pizza inside it but the pizza is square
@mediocrebot Yeah, I’m giving up now.
/showme a pizza box that has given up on its lifelong dream to become round like the pizza inside it
/showme a goat chewing the corners off a pizza box so it becomes round
Probably as close as we’re gonna get tonight.
/showme an octagonal pizza box with a square deep-dish pizza inside.
Bot is unclear on the concept of “square”, and seems to think that a deep-dish pizza resembles a deli veg-and-dip tray.
@werehatrack Also interesting/hilarious that you asked for a square inside, but got a hexagon instead. (though it did get the outer octagon correct, which is better than the next attempt)
/showme an octagonal pizza box with a deep-dish square pizza inside, style of Pizzeria Uno, seed=647.
This is just beyond the bot’s artificial unintelligence.
@werehatrack Well if AI can be convinced that 2+2=5 then I guess it makes sense that it thinks octagons have 6 sides.

/showme a square shaped pizza inside a circular shaped cardboard container.
@mediocrebot This is how we will win over Skynet. Conceal all weapons under square pizzas and round boxes! They will never see it coming!

/showme a square shaped flatbread covered with meat and vegetable toppings inside a circular shaped cardboard container.
/showme a round peanut butter and jelly sandwich inside a triangular ziplock bag.
Seems it has no problem depicting other foods in nontraditional shapes, just a prejudice against pizzas.

@kuoh I’d say it has a firm belief that pizza should be round… but I don’t know where that could come from. I’ve seen a lot more non-circular pizzas than I’ve seen non-rectangular sandwiches.

/showme an empty round box
/showme an empty round pizza box
It has a real mental block around pizzas and pizza paraphernalia.
/showme a round pizza box next to a round box
@mediocrebot Thanks, you got one!
/showme a round pizza box next to a square pizza
/showme a round pizza box on a table next to a square pizza
I’m gonna end up using all my daily credits on pizza boxes.
/showme a square pizza on a table sitting next to a round pizza box
@mediocrebot The only part of that which could be considered “correct” is the presence of a pizza, a box, and potentially a table.

/showme garden gnomes carrying a round pizza box to a picnic table where other gnomes are eating a square pizza
/showme a cat that just ate my entire pizza
@mediocrebot That’s a pretty good rendering of Garfield.
KuoH
/showme a cat that is very hungry because it has not eaten anything for at least 10 minutes
@mediocrebot Okay, you’ve almost redeemed yourself from the pizza box problem.
/showme a collection of all the different shapes pizza can be
@mediocrebot That’s technically not all the shapes a pizza could be, but I’ll accept that as a good faith effort.
/showme a museum exhibit of all the different shapes pizza boxes can be
I think I’ve found the problem. It thinks pizza boxes can be a lot of shapes, but not round.
/showme a round pizza box
@haydesigner Finally!
/showme a square pizza on top of a round pizza box
/showme a square pizza under a round pizza box
/showme a double decker pizza
/showme a Commodore Decker pizza in a doomsday machine box

/showme how much pizza is pizza squared?
Folks, your answer.
@pakopako TIL:
pizza² = ∞ pizza
