Got a screener delivered a few weeks ago along with the media packets that went out from Universal / Legendary Pictures. Michael Fassbender may be Oscar-bound.
OHHH @Pavlov... you're still ignoring me... but its cool... I'll continue on... Anyway... If I wasn't working this weekend I'd be going... if I wasn't closing today, I'd be going today.
@sohmageek I'm not ignoring you, I completely spaced emailing you from that other thread a while back - absolutely on me, totally my bad, I'm so sorry - post the details here and I'll email you later tonight.
From all I've heard about it, it sounds like Aaron Sorkin, the writer, made up a lot of crap that never happened and twisted personalities and characters. Meh. Maybe someday when it won't help make the movie seem like a success.
I never met Jobs but I did meet the Woz several times over the years (my Apple ][+ was signed by him when he came to CES in Las Vegas many years ago) and I dislike the thought of self-indulgent hollyweirdos misrepresenting a decent person (which by most accounts he is).
@thismyusername There are a lot of people who are saying that, as a movie, its pretty good. Quality acting, writing, etc. That doesn't excuse making up as much stuff as they did. I certainly can't speak for the Woz but even he has said a lot of the events in the movie are made up. I believe (not looking up now to confirm) that the movie even had him in scenes where IRL he was no longer at Apple. And they keep bringing back Sculley in scenes where apparently Jobs never spoke to Sculley again after his ouster from Apple. Why? Because Sorkin wanted to make up his own story, and like so many others in entertainment and politics, the facts, the truth, isn't good enough, and doesn't matter. If it was titled "Steve Werks" and was about a character at a famous computer company, and was clearly fictionalized take on Jobs, great! But it wasn't. Feh. Meh.
@duodec I understand what you are saying, I can't watch "Scorpion" or "CSI:Cyber" for the reasons you mention... no basis in reality... however... all the "modern" movies about Steve so far have made him out to be something he is not.
This movie gets to the essence of the man, but mashes up events... perhaps one day we will get a movie that covers both his real persona and real events. ;)
P.S. Woz rules, always has (can you tell if I'm more engineer or salesman? ;) )
Apple fans are used to paying to get the same experience over and over again. I guess the first movie wasn't good enough, eh? Better pay more for another version of the same thing!
I only go to one movie per year and I already watched "The Martian." I will wait for January to see Star Wars VII, and by then the Steve Jobs movie will have sunk, thankfully, into oblivion.
I've seen the Sorkin movie/TV show about the Type-A assholes ranting, being frantic, spewing Sorkin cliches; the women running around like emotional little girls, the men being emotionally inept; everyone occasionally waxing populist philosophical.
But if you haven't, I highly recommend:
Meh. But we might watch it anyway. Eventually. We didn't hate The Social Network or Newsroom. Though by the end of Newsroom, I was fucking nauseous of his increasingly repetitive and shallow tropes.
I'll watch it for Fassbinder and Winslet, two ppl w amazing careers. Sorkin annoys me. Good writer who always seems to turns talent into cliche over time.

Read the book. Or at least a book about him.
@pooflady I've read the book, and watched the 1st movie...

@duodec I really liked Woz's autobiography! It was a great read!
I haven't watched it in a decade or more, but I plan to rewatch pirates of silicon valley sometime soon. I always enjoyed that one.

Pirates of Silicon Valley is the only good Steve Jobs movie. (And the book it's based on isn't bad, either).
@trisk also a more accurate depiction of Jobs than the movies before the 2015 one. :)
(Seems that Ballmer was the one that got "modified for dramatic effect" in that one)
@trisk of course I posted about PoSV like 2 posts above, before I scrolled down to see it mentioned.

@capguncowboy What I am hearing is this is supposed to be more like the real guy, not the god. :)
No.
How about the option of - maybe, ya when it hits redbox, or Amazon prime. Not everyone does Netflix.
@mfladd you knew what the poll meant. Quit being pedantic or @jaremelz will gif you into timeout.
@Thumperchick I'm skipping time outs for @mfladd today and going straight to
@jaremelz
@mfladd Brace yourself. Here, hold on to the table.
is it more Steve Jobs porn or does it talk about the grimy bullshit he did too? cuz I think it's probably just more Steve Jobs porn

I'm content with the depiction in Becoming Steve Jobs (the book, not a movie), so I'll pass on this.
Hell to the no.

@joelmw I did actually really like Charlie Wilson's War. I blame the cast.
@joelmw
Watching those cliche loops reminds me of how i felt watching one of his shows or films. Admiration to the actors for doing their best.
