@matthew Of course I have. Who hasn't? But do you think it really compares with the robot tech in that video? I hope Canada is working on a robotic baby arm. That's what the world really needs.
@Bingo it's not literally waiting for stuff, it's joining others who are excited to wait for stuff and pretending it's worth it. Like participating in a flash mob.
@BillLehecka Yeah I know. I really do. I just can't get passed my own dirty hippy feeling of "Standing in line to buy products because corporations told me to". Seriously, I know it's a dumb mindset to feel that way but whaddyagonnado?
@snapster I'm with you, launch days were some of the most exciting times working for Apple. Even though I may be working a 14 hour day, everyone's just so excited that it's worth it. Plus you get to hold it before everyone else.
@patti I figured I'd start with the base 6 and see how my thumb feels. I'll be jealous whenever I see someone using an app in landscape mode but can't make the leap yet.
@snapster I feel you. I think the plus is just going to be way too much phone for me considering I actually use the phone portion of the phone. I also got silver just because I always get it. However I do kind of like the gold.
@darksaber99999 You get 10 bonus points for honesty. I also tried to find you some pictures of sad models, then found out that most models look sad in pictures. :\
Got my 6, 128GB, Space Grey. I had reserved my unit at the Apple Store to be picked up between 8AM and 9AM, so I just walked up at 8:03AM, was directed to the "reserved" line which had 4 people ahead of me. I was in and out in about 20 minutes, while the 200-300 people in the general line were just standing around waiting. I'm now back at my office, waiting while iTunes is restoring all my content to the new phone. The device is beautiful, feels quite a bit lighter than the 5, and all in all I am happy. I also got to feel the 6+ while I was there - I'm glad I went with the regular 6. @snapster, happy iPhone to you!
@curtise happy iPhone back at ya! I saw some 6 Plus users sitting on a bench staring at their piece of toast gigantic phones with what I interpreted as regret. I suppose it was probably awe, but I couldn't get past my own perception
@BillLehecka iPhone 4 launch. Got to the mall by 5AM. Calamities ensued because of horrible mismanagement by store staff and lots of carrier issues (which SHOULD NOT HAVE MATTERED since I was getting an unlocked phone) and whatnot. Finally got my iPhone at 9PM. Was the last person to actually get a phone that day. So yeah, also 16+ hours. This was SOOOOO much better!
@BillLehecka 1996 Stanley Cup Finals Tickets. I got out there a little after 6am and was number 68 in line. It was only about 3 hours in line, although by the time I got to the window the cheapest seats ($100) were sold out and to get 4 seats we had to get 2 and 2 in two different sections for $120 each.
@BillLehecka A long time ago… Specifically March 28, 1985. All three Star Wars movies were played back-to-back-to-back for the first and only time in nine theaters in America. For the younger among you, it's hard to imagine a time when the only way to see Star Wars was in a movie theater and what a huge deal this was. I got in line around 6:00 am. I think I got my tickets around noon. It might not be the longest I've ever been in line but it was definitely for the most memorable event. I remember thinking "Hey! They say 'I've got a bad feeling about this.' in all three movies!" I would have sworn it was at the Coronet in San Francisco but the Internet tells me it was at the UA Galaxy. I think I still have the ticket, I'll have to see if I can find it. http://www.nytimes.com/1985/02/28/movies/showing-of-star-wars-trilogy-to-promote-jedi.html
@SSteve I was there at the Coronet, but I got in line the evening before, and was one of the first ten in the theater, which got me a copy of the "Revenge of the Jedi" poster. Plus, I got my picture in the Chronicle. They fired up the sound system the night before to calibrate for the showing; you could hear it outside on the sidewalk.
@snapster Still in line? Pull up the meh site on your phone and mumble to yourself about the iphone 6 speakerdocks on sale for rock-bottom prices! The measure the number of new accounts that sign up today.
@DaveInSoCal nope actually made it into the office pretty fast - still trying to remember the 30 passwords I have to put in to set the phone up! Alas, I was not a very good in-line spokesperson.
@snapster I know it's too late now, but in case you weren't aware, if you do an "Encrypted Backup" of your old phone to your computer in iTunes before you restore to the new one, all the passwords carry over ("in theory"). I believe iCloud backup/restore also preserves passwords. However, a standard backup/restore results in all passwords being unreadable to your new phone (for security reasons), meaning re-entry of passwords will be your pastime for a little while.
@snapster No 1Password or LastPass? I have LastPass. Amazing app. Generates random passwords. They also built in a Safari Extension so you can fill in your login info.
@editorkid If it's not inside a mall and the line was out on the public sidewalk then that's totally legal and there's really not anything Apple can do to stop it. Also, I don't really understand why Apple wouldn't want more coverage showing how in-demand the devices are. Surely that's good for some bandwagon advertisement.
My sister got the 6 this evening after work. The Verizon by their house still had them in stock. She seems pretty excited. They even gave her $200 for her old iPhone 4 so she sprang for the 64GB model.
store employees just did a high-five "we're open" lap around the mall.
waiting for debbie gibson song now - boy I love malls
@snapster
@JimCil I didn't realize Canadian robot technology was so advanced.
@snapster shouldn't Shark / Sweater Boy be in lone for you?
@SSteve never heard of the Space Shuttle's Canadian-built robotic arm!?!?!?!?!
@matthew Of course I have. Who hasn't? But do you think it really compares with the robot tech in that video? I hope Canada is working on a robotic baby arm. That's what the world really needs.
Which one are you getting?
@Kevin Obviously he'll get the 6 Plus, like baws!
@Kevin iPhone 6, 128gb, silver
I wish they had the raw aluminum with a black bezel but I like it enough to live with the white.
@snapster I concur! I went Space Grey because I can't handle the white front. I would go gaga over a black front + gold or silver back.
in line for...?
@marklog first adopter snafus
@marklog iSheep
Ugh. I will never wait in line for some piece of merchandise. I just don't need "stuff" that badly. Ever.
@Bingo Also, yeah I'm "that" guy
@Bingo it's not literally waiting for stuff, it's joining others who are excited to wait for stuff and pretending it's worth it. Like participating in a flash mob.
@snapster There is a communal experience with people who have the same goal. You bond for those hours, and then you never speak to those people again.
@snapster Kind of like being here! I get it now!
@BillLehecka exactly! hello old hippy in front of me - you better be buying a speaker dock!
@BillLehecka Yeah I know. I really do. I just can't get passed my own dirty hippy feeling of "Standing in line to buy products because corporations told me to". Seriously, I know it's a dumb mindset to feel that way but whaddyagonnado?
@snapster And exactly. I can hang out here with everyone and enjoy it from afar. With my giant 5.5" phone. In landscape mode. Able to read everything.
@snapster I'm with you, launch days were some of the most exciting times working for Apple. Even though I may be working a 14 hour day, everyone's just so excited that it's worth it. Plus you get to hold it before everyone else.
@hollboll "Plus you get to hold it before everyone else" Great line to take out of context
@Bingo
@Bingo
@hollboll Great line on Stephen Colbert - "I got the new iPhone. This one is great. It comes preloaded with nude pictures of Bono."
You getting the plus? I have Fed Ex out for delivery now for the smaller size.
Also, breakfast octopus.
However I do kind of like the gold.
models working for red bull with backpacks on just failed to give away free red bull to reserved line. they looked depressed.
@snapster pics of depressed models?
@darksaber99999 Sounds like a weird fetish..
@jenny The heart wants what it wants
@darksaber99999 You get 10 bonus points for honesty. I also tried to find you some pictures of sad models, then found out that most models look sad in pictures. :\
How friendly is the line you're in? Are people chatting with each other?
@Kevin Are they talking like pirates?

@snapster
Seriously though, I can't fathom anyone getting the Plus unless she/he always carries a purse/murse.
What the longest line you've camped out for? Mine's easy: 16 hours to get into Hall H at Comic Con this year.
@BillLehecka iPhone 4 launch. Got to the mall by 5AM. Calamities ensued because of horrible mismanagement by store staff and lots of carrier issues (which SHOULD NOT HAVE MATTERED since I was getting an unlocked phone) and whatnot. @BillLehecka And this is why even though I live in San Diego that I don't go to CC. I HATE lines. Hate 'em.
@DaveInSoCal Hey, I was in San Diego just before CC this year (ESRI UC). I was the tall, dorky-looking guy.
@BillLehecka I don't know that it counts as a line, but we used to camp out on the sidewalk in Pasadena on NYE for the Rose Parade.

@BillLehecka to get tix to 1st day at yhe King Tut exhibit at the Metropolitan. an all night party in Central Park.
@SSteve I was there at the Coronet, but I got in line the evening before, and was one of the first ten in the theater, which got me a copy of the "Revenge of the Jedi" poster. I guess it is the most mediocre of holidays...

@snapster For shame.

@The_Baron our FAQ should say that we allow foul language so that we can enjoy Cyanide and Happiness cartoons.
@snapster and the occasional butt stuff.
For those of you who got/are getting a new iPhone, Consumerist had an article today about suggested privacy setting tweaks for iOS8.Some iOS 8 Privacy Settings You Might Want To Tweak
@bluedog Oh thank you!
I was supposed to get a VO of people standing in line for the news today, but the local mall put the kibosh on that, saying Apple was not allowing it.
@jqubed There were four news trucks outside the Apple store in downtown Chicago, FWIW.
Here I am just waiting for the handful of people that will fall for this:
(DO NOT DO THAT.)
@Thumperchick LOL!!! You just ~know~ some idiot is going to do this.
@Thumperchick I love that they were specific about how long for different wattages.
@SSteve And the weird thing is for some reason the higher wattage microwave needs more time.
@jqubed Hah! I didn't even notice that.
@Thumperchick Umm... the sparks just mean it's working, right?
Have you tried that new microwave charging method? I think it's charged but there's something weird with the screen now
I'm waiting for the iPhone 7. It will be morer shinier.
My sister got the 6 this evening after work. The Verizon by their house still had them in stock. She seems pretty excited. They even gave her $200 for her old iPhone 4 so she sprang for the 64GB model.
