Anybody work, worked or have a spouse that works for social security?
7So my dad’s social security was always delivered on the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday or wednesday of the month (bc of his bday). This month he died on the 13th and his check was delivered the 17th but SS yanked it back out days later. From what I’ve read, SS pays you for the month prior and won’t pay you the following month of your death. It seems to me he earned his check for September and the October one is the that should stop. I’m gonna call on Monday and fight it but just wondering if anybody works or used to work there to answer my question before I call.

Their website said payments are paid in arrears.
So, I think they should give the money back. Can you get into his SS account?

I’m sorry for your loss.
It’s paid in arrears but you’ll have a fight clawing it back. It took us almost 2 years after Momma died to get them to fix their error. Sis and I have come to the conclusion it’s a “cost cutting” tool they use because most people won’t fight long enough to get it back.
Sorry for the loss of your father.
Had this issue when mom passed away earlier this year. To complicate matters she died on the 31st of March. If you look below, the publication says “benefits received” not benefits earned. I think that’s where they get the wording they use to claw it back. It sucks.
Sorry for the loss of your dad. Having to deal with this is just one more thing on top of all that.
Edit… Forgot the screenshot…
Thanks, I’m still calling to fight about it bc I don’t think it’s fair.
