Anybody work, worked or have a spouse that works for social security?

So my dad’s social security was always delivered on the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday or wednesday of the month (bc of his bday). This month he died on the 13th and his check was delivered the 17th but SS yanked it back out days later. From what I’ve read, SS pays you for the month prior and won’t pay you the following month of your death. It seems to me he earned his check for September and the October one is the that should stop. I’m gonna call on Monday and fight it but just wondering if anybody works or used to work there to answer my question before I call.
