Without getting all political, I’m sure you all know why I’m curious. I’m already out at Woot and all of the other Amazon companies, so it sure would be nice if I could keep shopping here.
So yeah, we’re going to ship it the slowest and cheapest way we can possibly find. Usually that’s Smartpost or Surepost, which starts with FedEx or UPS and ends with the post office. It’ll probably be 2 weeks before you get it. And no you can’t get it any faster.
Without getting all political… If you find yourself without many options that agree with your agenda, you might consider the possibility that you’re on the wrong side of the argument.
@curtw4@kdemo@medz I found myself confused by the “I’m sure you all know why” I thought that was very presumptive. Why would they be so sure? I had to go look it up. Polite, marginally, but with undertones of judgement.
@medz That’s what was said when certain people couldn’t find a lunch counter that fit their “agenda”. Maybe what you think is the “wrong side of the argument” is actually the right side of history.
You can actually call Amazon and tell them no fedex and they will ship things via UPS and USPS. I had issues with fedex drivers misdelivering or stealing packages not sure which one but the camera that watches my drive showed no Fedex driver. After the second one I called fedex and said to hold every package for pickup at the terminal and they continued to “deliver” the packages so I finally had the shippers all require signatures and hold them at the terminal after I spent a few days tracking down the missing packages. Fedex still didn’t get it right so I gave up on fedex. Just today I had weather tech recall Floormats from Fedex just so UPS or USPS can deliver them. Fedex as a delivery service sucks all politics aside. At least that’s my experience. As for politics if they want to offer deals to a group that’s their choice, just like its Deltas, and the others to pull out of the deals. If you don’t like it find a way around it specify another shipper.
I would love it if Meh went to UPS, instead each Meh order I have held at a FedEx Office unless USPS is doing the final delivery.
In my experience (hundreds of packages at home, and thousands at work) FedEx has been less troublesome than UPS. I’ve had a lot more damaged or late deliveries with UPS.
@ELUNO Agreed! Amazon local delivery people are the only ones I have ever had deliver items to my mailbox, which I then have had to pay the post office to get back (requested compensation from amazon every time of course, but still a pain)
@zachdecker Ugh, they did that once to me. The post office lady was nice enough to not charge me anything, but I still wasted like an hour of my time going to pick it up.
Service Speaking: Some people have issues with FedEx. Some people have issues with USPS. Some people have issues with UPS. I figure the odds are about the same that any package will go missing with any of the carriers in modern 2018 shipping era.
Politics: I get it. FedEx doubled down on supporting the NRA and some people have issues with this. UPS has a long history with unions and the teamsters and some people have issues with this. Some people just have issues.
I’m 100% for “vote-with-your-wallet” and when given the choice, I choose to do so, but when I don’t have a say in the matter, I let it go. I paid extra for American Apparel when shirt.woot offered it, because I supported American-made clothing, even when there were boycotts for the founder being a disgusting perv. Sometimes you’ve got to pick and choose your battles. I have a delivery choice that I prefer too, and when given the choice I use it, but when I don’t have an option, I let it go.
@Collin1000 Just to be clear, FedEx did not, does not support the NRA. They provide discounted service for NRA members, as well as members from hundreds of other groups. FedEx has never donated to or voiced any support in favor of the NRA, does not support private ownership of assault weapons, and according to a FedEx spokesman, the NRA organziation doesn’t even use FedEx, but rather has a corporate account with UPS. Ergo, UPS is actually the shipping engine which makes NRA go.
So will you stop doing business with UPS now because they are the contracted common carrier for NRA?

@ruouttaurmind@therealjrn “So will you stop doing business with UPS now because they are the contracted common carrier for NRA?”
No, because I don’t care that much about which shipping provider the NRA uses, or which shipping provider gives NRA members discounts. Out of all the problems I face on a daily basis, this isn’t even one of them. I thought the tone of my post was along the lines of “this isn’t really a problem people” but I’ll be more direct: The shipping provider the NRA uses isn’t a problem in my world. I’ve got other fish to fry.
Funny… I haven’t watched the news since my husband passed at the end of October so I’m really outta the loop so I had to look up what this was all about. I’m glad I know now. I’ve had issues with FedEx deliveries here and actually had to put a sign up to them at my back patio door and stayed away from them as much as possible but now that I know this… I’m gonna use FedEx for everything I can.
As per the FAQ:
So no, there won’t really be alternatives.
Errr… Except for if they use UPS.
So, how does one request UPS during the order process?
@curtw4
You don’t.
You just hope that Meh uses them.
Too late.
Without getting all political… If you find yourself without many options that agree with your agenda, you might consider the possibility that you’re on the wrong side of the argument.
@medz I’m just happy I stopped reading the news.

@therealjrn I had to look it up as well. No idea.
I actually had to look up what side he was on. It gets confusing with the hard right and left boycotting everything.
Let me know when we’re occupying lunch counters, I’m in.
@aetris
Let’s eat!
@ruouttaurmind - Alas, today is a fasting day.

Screw Fedex for their service
@bleedmichigan in my experience 99% of the time USPS does the final delivery from Meh.
@bleedmichigan - We’re actually getting Amazon drivers where we are.
In my experience (hundreds of packages at home, and thousands at work) FedEx has been less troublesome than UPS. I’ve had a lot more damaged or late deliveries with UPS.
@blaineg
it’s all geography
Fedex has lost paychecks (back in the day) and never cared, refuses to follow building delivery regulations leading to package loss and theft.
UPS, never an issue
@blaineg It’s really just dependant on the local drivers and terminal, I’ve had good and bad experiences with both (and USPS)
@blaineg @spitfire6006006 But we can all agree that Amazon’s own and other local shipping services they use suck ass.
@blaineg @ELUNO never gotten anything delivered by them that I know of, I think they’re only in bigger markets
@blaineg YMMV though, in my area fedex are all independent contractors, one day the fedex truck broke, so he delivered my package in a uhaul
@blaineg That’s because the UPS folks play soccer with the packages prior to delivery.

@Collin1000 @ruouttaurmind This is a very important point:
@ruouttaurmind @therealjrn “So will you stop doing business with UPS now because they are the contracted common carrier for NRA?”

@Collin1000 Fairly put. Thank you for a well stated reply.
@Collin1000
What! you want them to send things DHL eCommerce.
all the bossy bossiness by everybody…
is soul sucking the fun/enjoyment out of…
ya know…
like everything!!
it is utterly exhausting.

@lseeber
@lseeber Super funny!
@lseeber So, bad service and gun running is what gets your motor running for corporate America.
@lseeber @TimWalter That was at best a 2-out-of-a-10 troll post, @TimWalter. lol Yeah, the NRA are gun runners. BWAHAHAHAHA!
@therealjrn
Only when they’re not busy hunting polar bears or eating babies.
@ruouttaurmind You forgot pistol-whipping seal cubs.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Clubbing.
/image stop clubbing baby seals
/image stop clubbing baby seals 2
@TimWalter It’s a good start although… yeah… gun running? hahaha
I’m gonna buy all my .22 and 9mm stuff at Dick’s Sporting Goods now.
Why didn’t the antigun crowd have problems with these companies dealing with the NRA before the last two weeks?
@Chuckfr it’s the companies that are making these decisions. The antigun folks either applaud or boo them depending on their statements.
I wonder if they ship dotards?
What’s the issue here? Is it that FedEx isn’t cutting the NRA out of their program, despite denouncing assault rifle ownership? Sorry, I really haven’t been paying attention to every last bit of the corporate fallout over this.
@lljk I believe that’s the issue of contention here – that they’re NOT cutting them out of the program.
@lljk @narfcake I thought the OPs issue was that they didn’t like assault rifles…
