Anne with an e
4We just finished watching the last episode of Anne with an E on Netflix. It was an amazing show and I’m sad that Netflix decided to cancel it.
For anyone that hasn’t seen it, I suggest it. I signed this online petition to get them to renew it. I honestly don’t think it will work, but in well…

Intro summary pls?
@f00l
It’s another retelling of the Anne of Green Gables story. It is extremely well written and well acted.

@f00l
The preview doesn’t do the show justice at all. Anne is an orphan that is mistakenly been sent to a pair of siblings that own a farm. Mistakenly because they sent for a boy to help at the farm.
She ends up staying and ends up eventually getting accepted by everyone, but it was very difficult.
It would be interesting it depicts their time period accurately. It fits in with what little I know and my preconceived notions well enough.

I regret that I never read the *Green Gables” books during childhood.
I think I skipped from Oz straight to Treasure Island and those 1950’s-60’s adventure books and horse books, to LOTR and teenage reading. Missed a bunch of classics,
I “read” (audio versions) Green Gables and Caddy Woodlawn stories just in the prev few years.
I’m well past the target age for these, but they’re holding up. Still wonderful. : )
@jst1ofknd
I just watched the preview.
Wow. Just the outdoor setting … makes me wanna move there. Wherever they shot the series.
The preview seems to convey a mix of “weight” (the storyline, acting, script, and emotional content) with an incredible idealized visual recreation of the time and place.
The “look” reminded me a bit of what I remember of Disney’s Pollyanna.
Only, sharper, and a little more edge, what with all that northern coastline light and openness, and those woods and fields and northern shorelines.
Looks really promising, from that preview.
@f00l
I never read the book. It falls way outside my usual genre of books. Maybe when this is all over and I go back to my normal commute I might listen to it…
As far as the show goes, they did an excellent job in all aspects of the show, the scenery included. It does kind of make me want to travel there and be a part of events.
@jst1ofknd
This could be one of those times where, for an adult audience, the filmed version might be better than the books.
I don’t recall wanting to visit the books again. They skew toward the tone of kid’s books from “back when”. But I might watch this.
@f00l @jst1ofknd
Parts of the original movie were shot in my hometown, it looks like some filming for this version was also pretty close to home, about a 30 minute drive
@jst1ofknd @lichme
Then, I suspect your local area can give someone a certain “headiness and sense of possibility”, just as a reward for going outdoors.
That light!
@f00l @jst1ofknd I read the first book (Anne of Green Gables) in the series when I was in high school. I hated it but loved the movies (original). It took me close to an entire year to finish the book. I had borrowed it from a friend so I forced myself to finish. I don’t remember why I didn’t like it, just that I didn’t. I haven’t watched the new series.
@f00l @msklzannie
I really think that it is very worth watching. It was something the whole family enjoyed watching together.
