Android error: Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped.
2I have an elderly off brand tablet with a giant 11 inch screen that I wanted to put in the kitchen to use for watching YouTube videos while cooking and cleaning. I haven’t booted this thing up in a long time. I’m getting the above error. All the fixes online tell me to go to settings. I can’t open settings. No matter how many times I press okay, this error message will not clear and I can’t get to anything else. I can’t even get it tp power down. Does anybody have any suggestions for me? I’d like to salvage this tablet.

can you find a model number for the tablet?
its generally in setting or on the box or on the back of the tablet
@communist It is a Hannspree SN14T71 HANNspad, model HSG 1281.
Off brand, probably 5-7 years old. My first tablet, I couldn’t afford a brand name. Too slow for modern apps but it has a 13.3" screen with a great picture so I used to use it for streaming which it did fine. Just got out of the habit. Found myself looking at these homes/echoes with screens thinking they’d be nice in the kitchen, then thought why not just set up this old tablet in there instead?
On most Android devices (phones and tablets), you can force restart your device by holding the Power button while holding the Volume Down button at the same time. Hold them down until the phone goes ‘blank’ (finally powers off) and then boots up (starts) again.
I had that same error on a new (less than 1 year old at the time) Samsung Galaxy phone. The only way to fix it was to do a factory reset which wipes the device and reinstalls Android.
@boc Awesome, thanks. At this point the device won’t boot at all, it gets stuck on the logo. I’m going to do some googling later to see if I can figure out how to reset it, but I’ve shelved it for now. Maybe cyber Monday will bring me a device I desire at a price I’m willing to pay.

If all you want is something to watch YouTube and similar on, Amazon is selling their Fire tablets quite cheaply now.
If you do this:
I would recommend an HD model with at least 16 gig memory. And get a micro SD memory card to store media.
Just put a few apps on it, only the ones you really need. These are not speed demons. Extra apps eat up local memory and slow them down.
Fine for vid watching tho.
These are not great tablets. But they are great for the price. And fine for amazon and YouTube use.
@boc @f00l That’s one of the devices I have been looking with, one capable of using “show” or whatever that is. I’m just wary of them as I’ve heard a lot more bad than good of them.

Take a look at this. It’s a deal on the newest (2017) 10" Kindle Fire.
Currently $99 at QVC.
You might have to use a new email address and new account to get that price at QVC.

Amazon appears to charge $149 for the same thing, here:

Also Woot has some previous gen Fire tablets up for grabs.

Don’t get a really old one. Last gen at most. The newer ones have better processors and better screens.
Also Amazon has discounted their own stock of 7" and 8" Fire tablets this week.
Compare their prices to Woot but be sure to match model generations.
Newer is better, obviously.
Don’t get anything with only 8gb tho.
At least 16gb. 32gb is best if you find a deal you like.
@f00l Thanks for shopping on my behalf. I looked at a lot of Fire tablets on Amazon yesterday. A lot of the reviewers for the ones with ads seemed really unhappy about the persistent intrusiveness of the ads. This doesn’t say it’s ad-free, so I assume it’s ad-full. I finally made up my mind to buy the Lenovo Smart Diplay 10" that was on sale at Wal-Mart yesterday for $99 as it has overall great reviews, especially for the speakers, which is important in the kitchen when washing dishes. But I waited too long and it’s back to $179 today. I thought I had time to decide as the page didn’t say anything about Cyber Monday but I was mistaken. You snooze, you lose, that was a good deal.
@moondrake
I use my fire tablet very lightly.
That said, the only ads I ever noticed were on the lock screen. They don’t bother me.
These are pretty good for vid.
If you purchase at the QVC price, and you don’t like it, you can prob either return it, or sell it for more than you paid for it, if you sell before Xmas.
@moondrake
Target appears to have these for $80. If you use a Red card. In store pickup only, but if a stock is out of stock you might be able to ship to store.

@f00l I think I’m going to spend the next couple of weeks kicking myself for missing out on the Lenovo, and hope it goes on sale again for Christmas.
@moondrake
Update:. The QVC one is $10 less if you create a new account.
