Some real talk - Amazon Basics and electricity don’t have a good track record - saying they had to cut corners in the well written description (bad optics) (love you guys - I get the jokes and all - too sweaty for me)
Since when is a small to medium sized room 1000sf !?! That’s two thirds the size of my whole house…apparently we’re giving the writers at meh too much money.
The 22-pint refers to the daily moisture removal rate, not the water bin capacity- "Easy to clean, reusable filter included, plus a removable 22-pint water collection bin”, "Tank Capacity: 10 L (22 pints)”. The bin capacity per owner manual is 0.79 gal=(3 Litre or 6.34 pints).
Clicking on the “Price History” link sends you to CamelCamelCamel which shows the Amazon UGS: B07XKGM4D4. The Amazon user manual has the 22, 35 & 50-pint models in the same manual and it is available when looking at the larger capacity models. Or, here is a direct link - https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/A1kv9GdY6WL.pdf
Yes If you were to use only the water collection tank, but according to the manual, the machine auto stops when the water tank reaches full.
No if you were to use a drain hose as per page 11 of owners manual:
“Using a drain hose (continuous drainage) When using a drain hose, the collected water is drained out of the drain hose outlet (P). No water is collected in the water tank (N). NOTICE The drain hose outlet (P) has no pump. The connected hose must be sloping downwards.”
@kostia@mehod So… if you had a room with crazy high humidity levels and a source of moisture that constantly replenished those moisture levels then yes, this would need to be emptied a few times a day if you could not run a hose to a drain.
Just in case you are misinterpreting the drain hose connection in the back:
this doesn’t come with a drain hose, but the manual says what size connector to get.
this doesn’t have a discharge pump, so to use the drain connector the hose needs to exit lower than the device. So unless you have a floor drain it needs to sit higher than the sink drain to work.
@Kidsandliz@ShotgunX I can’t afford a new one. Are their any refurbs for sale?
Do they have a warranty as long as their term in office, or do we just throw them in the trash when no longer working for us?
@Kidsandliz@ShotgunX
Are their they’re
there !!
(My secretarial pool quit for better pay and working conditions. My built-in typist is voice-activated. My auto-correct tends to be mostly asleep now.)
FYI I have my dehumidifier sitting on top of my dryer so the drain hose can empty into the clothes washer drain hose receptacle. Normally the drain hose threads are the same size as a garden hose so you can use a chunk of that retired garden hose or washing machine hose.
Having a drain hose hooked up is pretty key since before I had that the dehumidifier only ran once a day until it was full and then it just sat there with the full light on until someone emptied it which sometimes would be longer than a day
@oldmantick Or in a bathroom above the toilet. The hose could run under the seat from the back. Talk about dedankification.
Could either result in interesting conversations or fewer house guests wanting to stay so long.
@caffeineguy@oldmantick Not sure many bathrooms have a spot that’s elevated enough (or condensate pump) and can support the size and weight.
The manual says: approx. 33 lb (15 kg), approx. 15.2 x 19.7 x 10.2". It also wants 8 inches of space in every direction, and double that to top and front.
Got two. 125 year old house with a “dug” [dirt floor] basement. We suck a lot of moisture out in the spring and summer. Even have one in the garage to get the moisture out of the cement floor.
Hunh. Worrying review in Amazon from MR C D BISCOE:
“Didn’t realize how strange the unit was, in that the condensate water is actually stored in the tank, and then pumped away. Within one week, mildew was forming in the tank. It’s just counterproductive to do this, because my biggest issue with having the dehumidifier is to stop mold/mildew growth in the crawl space. Even worst, after a week of running, the unit couldn’t get the crawl down to an acceptable humidity level (54%).”
Is the condensate water the water used to run the dehumidifier’s function? So mold is spewed back into the room environment?

@skinny76 It appears to be a rebranded Midea which is solid.
lmao thought this was a fridge
@violue me too
@violue me 3
@violue Me 3 + 1 = 4
My dehumidifier is going out the front door!
@toycardriver Well then you better go catch it!
Will it work in reverse, here in the desert we average about 20% humidity this time of the year
@lonocat A whole-house humidifier was one of the best things I ever bought. Not too hard to install, and winters are so much more comfortable.
@kostia we have whole house humidifiers here; swamp coolers, or as most people around here just call em, air condioners.
@lonocat For winter we got two of those German-made humidifiers needed NO mesh, NO ultrasonics.
@lonocat Of course not; that’s how Meh gets you to buy another questionable small appliance.
@lonocat Then you are looking for a dedehumidifier. That might be a hard dedecision to make.
I will put it besides my Walmart humidifier and see which one quits first.
Perfect! Got 3 to use in combination with my new swamp cooler - just in time for summer!
Since when is a small to medium sized room 1000sf !?! That’s two thirds the size of my whole house…apparently we’re giving the writers at meh too much money.
@nltownsend843 My whole townhouse is only 950 sq. ft.!
No thanks I like it MOIST who doesn’t.

@mehod Does this mean that if the thing were running at full capacity you’d have to empty it three times a day?!
@kostia
Yes & No
Yes If you were to use only the water collection tank, but according to the manual, the machine auto stops when the water tank reaches full.
No if you were to use a drain hose as per page 11 of owners manual:

Finally! A DE-humidifier! In for 1!
I was kind of looking for a dehumanizer instead.
@ShotgunX All you have to do is look at politicians for that. They can be bought so you too can own one.
@Kidsandliz @ShotgunX I can’t afford a new one. Are their any refurbs for sale?

So MEH is selling Bezos remainders, and not, you know, the monkey place?
@lehigh We’ve come full circle

@oldmantick actually-- turn off the water to the basement toilet that only gets used every few days and let the dehumidifier fill the toilet tank.

Also folks, it’s important to note a lot of these small-compressor devices, whether they be dehumidifiers, mini-fridges, wine coolers, chest freezers, etc have starting relays that only last a few years… $8-12 and you’re good to go another few years. https://www.amazon.com/QP-02-4-7-Replacement-Refrigerators-Beverage-Freezers/dp/B08927D9H7
Georgia Red would have been a good choice though because it’s about to be muggy enough down here for this to get a lot of use.

@Sandra2 More like a weird review from someone who doesn’t know how dehumidifiers work.
@Sandra2 The photo shows the tank being removable so you dump it out, just like all of them. The guy is an idiot.
For the volumetric equivalency challenged, that’s two and three quarters gallons.
Anyone get theirs yet?
Sure been giving these a workout this summer! Keeping the garage very dry and using a fan to blow the dry air into the humid kitchen.
Are these part of the 1.56 million recall?
@radi0j0hn It appears that these are not part of that. The brands listed did not include Amazon Basics.
