Aldi has Jaffa cakes this week
5and that is a problem. How do you stop eating them?
They’ve got orange and raspberry and I can’t tell which I like better, because the one I’m eating seems to be the best ever.
So many calories so little time. The coffee maker is working overtime.

Wooo! Holiday food season begins!
Love me some Jaffa Cakes.
Raspberry is of course the better choice.
@RiotDemon It is certainly better than eating air, but it is not in fact the better choice between Jaffa cakes

@RiotDemon In UK they offer a “Lemon Slime” flavour cake bar around this time of year which is a tangy lemony goodness, but my fave is blackcurrant.
There was a passion fruit version for a minute, and strawberry which were both excellent as well.
i’d never heard of these and i thought maybe Stargate got suddenly very popular.
@katylava actually it did get at least mildly more popular. They launched Stargate Command a few weeks ago. For $20 you have unlimited access to all the series and movies until May including the upcoming webisode-like series Stargate Origins.
I hadn’t heard of Jaffa cakes until someone posted about them there. Guess I’m making a trip to Aldi haha
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 7, Episode 21 - "End of Days"
First time i heard of them.
next Day, went to the British section in the international Isle of the grocery store where i was working… boom there they are.
if you live near a Meijer, they are a regular stock Item.
@earlyre unfortunately Meijer is 8 hours away.
@earlyre Also a ready supply available on Amazon. Also World Market usually has them.
@earlyre I’m going to place my first order from Meijer to be delivered tomorrow. Maybe I’ll include them.

@f00l Poor fellow needs an orange Jaffa cake after that.
Aldi isn’t the only one to make them, though - there’s some outfit called McVittie’s that’s apparently synonymous with jaffa cakes in the UK.
Personally I wasn’t a huge fan of the texture in the aldi jaffa cakes, the cake bit in particular. They just don’t compare to the Polish ones.
@RiotDemon Nothing is better than Polish anything, and they’ll be lots of bad words said about any one who says otherwise! But if no one else is around we can pretend to be from the old country and argue for the hell of it.
@RiotDemon I’ve had the Polish ones too and agree they are somewhat better. They are hard to find and much more expensive than the ones from Aldi’s. Plus they always sell out of the better orange ones and there’s only second best left when I find them .
@duodec I work close to a Polish restaurant that sells them. I have to resist going there because I also buy lots of chocolates.
@RiotDemon I wish there was a Polish restaurant near here. All we have is a Polish store so there is good veal loaf and kielbasa. and other things that I find more disgusting than foodlike.
@cranky1950 I’d eat there more often but I forget when I want to order lunch to go, I need to call over thirty minutes ahead because they’re pretty slow.
@cranky1950 Not a huge fan of most Polish Vodkas.
@Pantheist That’s because you’re woman. Uh
@cranky1950 Potatoes are for eating.
@Pantheist right that’s why I only drink 100% pure grain alcohol mixed with distilled water.
@cranky1950 Funny you should say that. I honestly thought it was a good idea to mix everclear with spring water last weekend. Not the best idea I’ve ever had.
@Pantheist That’s also how they make cheap vodka. That was a big part of Dr Strangelove.
@Pantheist
Spring water might be better than grape juice or orange juice I suppose.
You set out wanting and planning to feel like hell the next day, right?
@cranky1950 I’m the guy that mixes Fire Ball with Everclear.
Everclear gives me a strange buzz. Not like Vodka or other things I’ve tried.
@f00l @cranky1950 Well, my thinking was 95% alcohol doesn’t leave a lot of room for anything else so it might be good and cheaper than a decent vodka. Big mistake.
@Pantheist You need to mix it with orange juice and Tahitian Treat. Ah, college.
My grocery store has them every week. I usually pass them over for some good tea biscuits though, as jaffacakes are highly overrated. They’re good every now and then, but like most british desserts, they need a good 'muricanizing. cough Birds’ Custard flavored Soup cough
@DarkHuD there is a cookie called berger cookie it is a maryland classic it is americanized jaffa cake basically cake bit is there to deliver the fudge. Mmmm
A friend in an east coast enclave not to be named (they don’t want the east coasters to know they are actually western Americans) sent me a pack of Cadbury Jaffas (like large M&Ms, orange flavor candy coating around
chocolate) and two boxes of McVities Jaffa Cakes. There is a store near them that carries European and English foodstuffs, apparently.
Waiting for my wife to come home from a work trip before enjoying the orange and chocolaty goodness!
