@robson Short of trying to cobble something together yourself (that you’ll likely spend 3/4 of this price doing anyway, and that price won’t include light) the cheapest passive systems that will give similar result and don’t even come with a light are aboot $50, so this isn’t a bad deal at all…
You could do it outdoors I suppose with a passive system for about half - but then you’re at the mercy of the weather, total “daylight hours” and daily maintenance if you expect yield.
@Pufferfishy@robson As someone who is currently growing outdoor herbs and someone who has an aerogarden (used to live in townhome with no yard), the aerogarden’s throughput is insane. It grew faster than I could trim. Not being at the mercy of weather is a nice luxury.
I was thinking of it as a fun project for the kids while they are stuck at home, but I think I’ll just buy some little pots and seeds and pocket the extra $84
I’ve had several aerogardens over the years. They do work well, with some caveats. You want plants that grow to about the same height at about the same time. Don’t plant basil and thyme together, the basil will burn on the lights before the thyme establishes the root system. The led lights are way better that the halogen ones (it nags incessantly about the bulbs needing replaced, but seems to have zero effect on the growth, so I don’t bother to it actually burns out) , and I’m planning to swap mine over to that at some point. But I want the tall version for that.
Can’t find a price comparison for this model. Appears to be an older model. The instruction guide is dated 2015. Other similar models are in the same price range. Tell me how this is a good deal? Need to throw in a bunch of extra seed pods to make it worthwhile.
I found a listing at Walmart at $200 for this model in White. https://www.walmart.com/ip/AeroGarden-Harvest-Touch-White-with-Gourmet-Herbs-Seed-Pod-Kit/627285652
This must be the last of them and yes it’s pretty old. It did get very good reviews back in the day. This is kind of the dinky sized one in their product line but if growing small stuff like herbs is your thing, this might be just right for you. Some people find it very grounding to grow shit to which I say Ha! The price is very good. People paid twice this and loved it.
If you love pesto like I do these can be awesome. You have to prune the basil quite a bit to get it bushy, and if you ever let it flower you need to pull that plant and start a new one - it will continue to “leaf out” after flowering, but not with the same vigor & fullness.
Also good for starting plants for outdoors if you’re in a modern / updated house that has low-E windows. I have SUPER low-E glass that lets in zero UV, so I have no houseplants. This type of thing (or a light) are the only way to grow anything.
Fun fact - basil here in Florida is perennial (if you can keep the sun from toasting it in the hottest part of summer) - I’m on year three for a few plants on my deck.
Have you guys ever heard of this website called sidedeal.com? It looks a little sketchy to me but they have a wi-fi version of this aerogarden thing in stainless steel for 99 bucks.
@carl669@this1 Yeah, it must be. I was reading you have to “buy a membership” too. Shit, who the fuck are these mediocre cats? They probably are worse than Florida timeshares.
I have heard of mercatalyst – there’s a name I can trust.
Oh, and here’s the cherry on top-- I set it up, “fuck it, I’ve been burned by meh before, it’s not worth the hassle, I’ll just use this one…” and the lights are broken. Don’t turn on at all, even though I can hear the relay inside flipping.
Of course I contacted support… They have always been slow and given this pandemic, probably non-existent.
I have had a very frustrating experience trying to get mine shipped. After a few weeks of no shipping info, I contacted support who told me that it was lost in transit and gave me an option for a refund or to ship out another one. I chose to have them ship another one, but apparently that one is also MIA? I have no shipping information or any sort of confirmation. I ordered some seed packs from MorningSave at the same time and they’ve just been sitting around for over a month, mocking me. I just wanted to grow some fresh salad while I was stuck inside during the pandemic.
I did not believe the picture that the herbs would get big like that. It is true. I had to remove the dill after a month because it was so big the light wouldn’t go up any further. The basil and mint is also insane. If I ever have a desk at work again, I’m going to get a little 2 pod version of this and grow flowers in it.

@jmoor783 lol!
/giphy smaller than you think
Love to see what they’re growing with this in Colorado and California, etc.
…basil. Lots of basil.
I just don’t see this ever being anything but a money pit.
Is there an herb that cures boredom? Dreadful, dreadful boredom?
@msayler catnip
@msayler Depends on what state you reside in.
@msayler Foxglove?
@msayler Hemlock?
@rjquillin hmm… I’d say confusion. Occasionally panic. Does that help?
@msayler basil. In pesto. On pizza. With scrimps and an heroic amount of cheese
OR - basil, in a pesto, in cream sauce, on gnocchi, with scrimps!
@Pufferfishy one of my dogs just threw up something with an amazing resemblance to that. On a rug.
@Shagbert wtf do you feed your dog?
@Shagbert @Pufferfishy Yeah the stuff on the right looks a lot like cat puke too
Too expensive

@Jamileigh17 Would giving the thyme a head start of a week or two take care of the basil/thyme height problem?
@Jamileigh17 @phendrick
Yeah, you just have to thyme it right.
@Jamileigh17 Thyme waits for no one
@SpocKirk
Are the baggies sold separately?
@phendrick they come with a scale
Free delivery of groceries means even less work for me. I don’t want to buck the trend now.
I’ve already got a pretty hot wife who does that.
@RedOak embrace that shit bro
@admiralpoopants
Yep, one of the key “secrets” to 30 years of marriage.

If this is an older model, is there any concern about being unable to get bulbs or any other needed renewable pieces?
With the 20% off coupon at BB&B you can get it for $80 with free shipping
@123987jan can you link us to that?
Have you guys ever heard of this website called sidedeal.com? It looks a little sketchy to me but they have a wi-fi version of this aerogarden thing in stainless steel for 99 bucks.
@therealjrn Dude, it literally says it’s part of Meh and Mediocre at the bottom of the page.
@therealjrn How do these models compare?
@therealjrn @this1 definitely sketchy
@Jetlag @therealjrn It’s also on Mediocre’s website: https://mediocre.com/
@this1 Dude, You just starred your own post. Ew.
@therealjrn It appears I did. Now if only you could have applied those same incredible powers of deduction originally…
@this1 Whaaaat? Dude, that’s a mean thing to say.
Why don’t you tell @Zally how they compare?
@therealjrn they also sound sketchy to me… so this gives the herbs a solid wifi connection for streaming music to help them grow?
@therealjrn @this1 site is definitely sketchy. says i’ve been a VMP member (whatever the hell that is) since 2014.
@carl669 @therealjrn So sketchy it’s prominently featured on the mediocre.com website…
@therealjrn @this1 that mediocre.com site looks sketchy too. i’m gonna guess it’s some kind of pyramid scheme.
@carl669 @this1 Yeah, it must be. I was reading you have to “buy a membership” too. Shit, who the fuck are these mediocre cats? They probably are worse than Florida timeshares.
I have heard of mercatalyst – there’s a name I can trust.
It says “Shower for watering”
I don’t see that in the promo videos, does it really water them from above as well?
@Zally not from above as in where the lights are - the water is pumped to come down above the pod itself so the top of it gets wet as well as the base
/giphy woomy
I was shipped a harvest elite instead of the touch! Why?
@jstef Yeah what I purchased or what was advertised is not what I received either…
@jstef Annnd after finding the model number on it, it’s not even an elite, just plain ol’ AeroGarden Harvest…
@jstef @kellie0896 did you contact meh.com/support?
I’m going to call aerogarden.
@jstef they are still working.
I received the Harvest Touch, BUT with no seed grow deck AND the light was broken. Normally, I’d say “meh”, but this thing was 90 freakin’ dollars!
@e_talkington meh.com/support if you haven’t already.
They aren’t responding. Meh.
Hi @jstef -
We responded to your message Tuesday 11:31am. If you don’t see that, please check your spam folder.
Get ready for that chargeback, Meh, sent me the wrong item
@mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I just replied to your message.
UPDATE
Hey All -
I hope this helps a bit!
Alright folks - Here’s the deal with the lights. If this is not plugged in, the light will not work:
Just wanted to say, mine came in and our first crop has all sprouted! My kids check every day, most days several times a day.
Though 2 pods didn’t produce, I just put seeds in them
Otherwise this thing Rocks!
@shaunanl being mocked by plant babies with nowhere to grow them sucks. I’ll look into this for you and we’ll reply to your case again with an update.
Damn, i want another one. the one i have is working great
I did not believe the picture that the herbs would get big like that. It is true. I had to remove the dill after a month because it was so big the light wouldn’t go up any further.
