After several really subpar Valentines’ night dinners out, my husband and I decided we’d never go out on that night again.
@kittykat9180 Right, and they usually have some “special menu” that might not be great. But the one time that killed it for us, it was the beyond terrible service that night. I waitressed for several years so I’m usually sympathetic but this was inexcusable.
Coming to the mutual realization early in your relationship that you both get that Valentine’s day is a marketing BS scam “holiday”, and it needn’t be acknowledged, much less commemorated, with a gift…
@shahnm Or you could also specifically select a non-capitalist method of celebrating the idea nominally behind the holiday, and thereby thumb your nose at the commercialization.
I would prefer to forget the day all together as it is also my birthday. I would just rather go on about life and enjoy every day…not just the Hallmark occasions.
My parents instilled in me that showing your love through gifts, experiences, and words are something to be shared everyday. That being said, I know Valentine’s Day can be an amazing over the top day for those to go all out and show their love.
Herpes. The gift that keeps on giving.
@yakkoTDI Old joke:
What’s the difference between Herpes and true love?
Herpes lasts forever.
Something for my wife. Anything else gets an overnight visit with the dog.
@hchavers just to be safe, get something for the dog too!
Dining out, together.
@phendrick, on Valentine’s Day? You must be a fan over overpaying. Which makes me wonder why you’re on this site.

It’s probably for the snarky judgment.

@macromeh, isn’t that what the internet is for?
@Kyeh, I’ve never gone out on VD because the menu prices are shocking.

@shahnm Agreed! I came here to say something similar.

@ttmuchtrbl But then how is anybody supposed to make money off you??
@ttmuchtrbl, asking the tough questions.
@shahnm the hubby definitely helps the economy no worries there
Experience & memories > material possession

Something that arrives before February 15th would be a start
