Beginning in January 2021 new federal regulations regarding labeling of certain fibers or additives that used to be considered fibers which are no longer considered fibers were enacted. Meaning that this is likely the last of the 2020 batches of old labeling. So, if you are diabetic or eat ketogenic, you may want to compare these boxes with nutritional information that is now on the shelves to make sure that they are the same net number of carbs vs what the new packages are. Costco just took a huge hit on their Kirkland protein bars, which used to be anywhere from 3 to 4 net carbs and are now 10 for that exact reason. It has pretty much killed using those bars for a ketogenic diet.
EDITING TO ADD: yep, it’s the tapioca starch / tapioca fiber/ oligosaccharides that are no longer considered an actual fiber that can be deleted from the net carb count. Please be cautious if you actually follow a ketogenic diet or are diabetic, these are not as low-carb as they claim to be.
@atravis6 damn… I’ve been eating two of those kirkland bars a day . No wonder if felt like I’ve stalled out lol. Thankfully I’ve already lost any 95lbs and now just trying to get that last 10-15 and maintain so not as much of a deal for me.
Of the various protein bars I’ve tried I do like the kirkland ones best so far though.
@atravis6 wow, how did I not hear about this? You are quite correct. My Kirkland bar that I just ate was labeled 3G net carbs. The new box I bought this year says 10G net carbs for the same bar. Darn cheaters!
@scilynt Same here. I’ve been keto for years, helped me lose 100# in a year and maintain it since. Those brownie and chocolate chip bars are my jam, I used it have one or more a day. Haven’t touched my new boxes yet. Quest all the way now.
@atravis6@Lynnerizer thank you . Yeah it’s been really great so far and I’m determined to keep the healthier lifestyle. It wasn’t always easy but honestly the magic of keto/ketosis almost made it feel like cheating lol.
@atravis6 congrats! Have you had any issues with loose skin at all? I believe intermittent fasting has helped me in that area but I still have some loose belly skin I hope to “absorb” lol.
And YES! My daily routine lately has been to eat one of the chocolate chip cookie dough (which are still decent) so I could then reward myself with, and savor, the chocolate brownie . But if these are actually 10 net carbs I might have to just skip to the chocolate brownie from now on lol.
@scilynt yes to the loose skin, I used to be able to intermittently fast but due to my current work schedule it’s really not possible. I consider myself a partially deflated balloon. I wear armbinders so I can comfortably wear t-shirts and I wear high-waisted yoga pants to stop jiggling
So far, from what I’ve read so far, it looks like maybe I should Not have purchased these bars of what I chose, the Peanut-Butter bars , which I bought because I was hoping they would taste like Reese’s PB cups.
@ScotD Strange that they didn’t call out gluten-free on the Purple Diabetic bars too – the ingredients are nearly identical. Primary difference I see is Peanut Butter in the Diabetic vs Sunflower Seed Butter in the Keto
We like these a lot. Great for when I’m on the go or don’t have time to cook between meetings. The taste is pretty good for what it is and the price is a no-brainer. /giphy mummified-swift-templar
Not exactly Snickers, but not bad as nutrition bars go. Kind of gave me gas until I got used to them. After that, they weren’t as filling, either. I used them to replace snacks, not meals. Not sure if I ended up gaining or losing weight since I forgot to weigh myself first!

So if I just want a pile of candy bars, and I’m neither diabetic or on keto, should I buy these?
@raive They’re not that good but if you’re avoiding sugars they’re better than nothing.
@raive Not based on the amazon reviews. Yikes!
@raive get fitcrunch bars instead, they taste awesome and have much less sugar
POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot noo i said the a-word

Which is better, the paper wrapper or the faux dough?
@hchavers The wrapper. No contest.
These are new. They probably taste worse than used ones.

@atravis6 wow that sucks! thanks for the information

Congrats on your major weight loss, that’s super cool!! I can only imagine you must feel like a new person!! Woohoo to you!!

@atravis6 thank you
Is it just me, or do both nutritional links go to the same place? Are they actually the same bar?
@Superllama7 very close! See this
@Superllama7 @troy sodium content is different.
The poor reviews on Amazon seem to refer to expired product. What is the Best By date on these?
@ESQuireTech According to the listing 6/26/21
Well, what the heck

@ybmuG Hmm, those look better…
@ybmuG They definitely do!

@1DisabledWarVet Quest peanut butter cups are awesome and taste even better than Reese’s. One net carb for a two pack.
POPSOCKETS! COURT DOCKETS! FOLK ROCK HITS! AWESOME!
@1DisabledWarVet @atravis6 Wow I need to try this. I love Reese’s and wouldn’t mind a healthier alternative.
@atravis6, T-Bone Steaks taste better than Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups but I was not talking about T-Bone Steaks, or Quest Chocolate Bars!!
Probably taste like someone had ALREADY eaten them…
Note the Gluten Free of one but not the other.
Just a tidbit if you fing can’t eat modern gluten.
@ScotD Strange that they didn’t call out gluten-free on the Purple Diabetic bars too – the ingredients are nearly identical. Primary difference I see is Peanut Butter in the Diabetic vs Sunflower Seed Butter in the Keto

Nothing says you’re serious about your “diet” like foods trying to emulate chocolate chip cookie dough.
Pro tip:
The chocolate chip cookie dough bars go GREAT with loaded nachos and a 2-liter of Mountain Dew.

Damm… Garfield does have some Good ideas…Kato S’mores…
Again-- When will Meh be selling some weight GAIN bars?! I am in serious need: cachectic is not a good look for me…
@MrNews it’s called cake . But a quarter sheet doesn’t ship very well.

Spend some dough, get some “d’oh!”

Kitty likes them? I might bite, !
these are good to fill between meals or as a meal while your out n about

Pass. I’ll stick with Balance Cookie Dough bars. One a day is all I would have (and probably a good idea since it has 17 g of sugar).
Taste is a bit disappointing, but it was worth a shot… Probably won’t buy again.
Agree, but like the low carbs. Good for the price, and would buy more if I had the chance.

I told my husband after having my first peanut butter chocolate bar…
“Yeah, you eat one of these and you lose your appetite. You most definitely do not want seconds.”
Nasty, nasty, nasty.
One of these days I’ll learn not to get food type things from meh. (Those orange Mentos were horrible, tasted like sucking on a bar of soap.)
