A number of years ago, they actually did a study comparing football and baseball, and the amount of action in each game. Turned out baseball actually had more action than football. (Relevant because a lot of people say baseball is more boring than football because football has so much more “action” in the game.)
@haydesigner Yeah, baseball does have more action, especially if you count all the head shaking by the pitcher, dirt-kicking and crotch-adjusting by the batter, spitting in the dugout, etc. Or do they do that only when they know the camera is on them? Definitely more exciting.
That must be why when they show the fans in the seats behind home plate, they are all looking at their phones or at each other.
That’s also why the announcers never stray from discussing only the current “action” on the field.
@haydesigner@phendrick That would make it more favorable for baseball, which is simply a longer game (each game is an average of 2-3h compared to the gridiron’s ~1.5h). After a bunch of time, what began as exciting can begin to grate.
@haydesigner A similar study (possibly the same one) found basketball has over 3x the action of baseball, hockey has over 4x the action, and soccer (European football) has over 5x the action of baseball. Per play American football has more “every player involved” action per play than baseball, plus the game itself doesn’t take as long. So boredom with the monotony (pitch, strike, pitch, ball, OMG someone actually got a hit, etc) doesn’t set in. Plus with baseball, every year I hear about them considering playing shorter games (6 innings) or shortening the season (World Series in September at the latest) because of the overall lack of interest in some ball clubs/cities. But as long as MLB makes a profit as a whole, I doubt that will ever change.
I have to wonder if the reason that these are over here being remaindered is that nobody wants to be seen in public wearing a cap that has so frequently been disgraced by the head under it in news photos. This also makes me wonder if the reason why the parking lot in front of a certain store that I drove past recently is suffering from the same malady.
@detailer Boy that is true. I had been in the hospital after cancer surgery and my surgical oncologist came to see me wearing red and black plaid pants. He had come from the golf course. I have no idea why he even remotely thought those things looked anything other than completely dorky and stupid.
The “lack of action” argument for football is so disingenuous. That’s like saying any great movie that’s not an action film is boring because there’s not constant explosions or chase scenes or gunfights. There’s so much to watch if you understand what to look for.
Of course you can still not enjoy it and that’s fine, but saying it’s boring because nothing is happening is just being ignorant.
@Hittman How about another analogy. With your argument, a chess match is only minutes of action too, and may only be seconds. So everything else is dead action while they just sit there. That’s obviously not true.
Football is kind of like chess in that way. There’s a lot of cerebral stuff going on between snaps. Strategy and anticipation are paramount, and understanding the game allows you to enjoy the time between plays to discuss, argue, or contemplate what the next “move” will be by both teams.
All of this being said, a lot of people don’t enjoy it, and that’s fine. But to yuk other people’s yum because you don’t enjoy it is not really that cool in my opinion.
@Mac454 Didn’t say I didn’t like it, just counteracting the idea that football has so much more “action” than baseball. Both have much downtime that you could use your chess analogy. If you want more action: basketball.
@Hittman oh I wasn’t arguing about baseball. Just going back to the original sentiment that football is boring because of a lack of action. My argument is the same for baseball too. And soccer. And I’m sure cricket (which I admittedly do not understand). Basketball is my favorite sport, and even there there’s so much on the court to watch besides just who has the basketball. It’s all good. Go sports!
Got my golf cap today and I really like the colors but most of all the quality was above all my exprctions really really good looking and the mesh was what I needed . More golf stuff would be appreciated thanks again!!!

@haydesigner I did a study and found them both to be boring.
@haydesigner Yeah, baseball does have more action, especially if you count all the head shaking by the pitcher, dirt-kicking and crotch-adjusting by the batter, spitting in the dugout, etc. Or do they do that only when they know the camera is on them? Definitely more exciting.

@phendrick they defined (and timed) the action from when the ball was pitched and the play ended, and when the ball was hiked and the play ended.
@haydesigner @phendrick Nah, shports are extremely fun brother, just grab a couple dozen beers with yuh buds and… yup, that’ll do the trick.
@haydesigner @phendrick That would make it more favorable for baseball, which is simply a longer game (each game is an average of 2-3h compared to the gridiron’s ~1.5h). After a bunch of time, what began as exciting can begin to grate.
@haydesigner
i.e. so much more violence and opportunities for people to get badly hurt, for sure.

@haydesigner @yakkoTDI, Yeah, i did my own study & found hay designers borin,… Regardless, of d Pitchforks!! 🫢
@1DisabledWarVet not sure why you found it necessary to be a dick and attack me personally, but maybe in future try not to be one to strangers, okay?
The PGA can’t get their members to advertise for them. So, they turn to Meh and the Mehizens? Shotting low has gone off golf course.
On a related note, is the SuperBowl game on Sunday actually going to have real tackle football or just flag football?

My golfing friends liked them!
@Everbody Look, we both know you don’t have any friends.
I’d watch LPGA over football any day of the week.
“Boss, we’ll only make, like $5 from selling this on today of all days.”
“Hehehe it’s funny doe.”
Perfect for my twin siamese twin boys. They both……. I mean, all four boys like golf. But they like to feel different. Four colors works!!
Many years ago, I heard a comedian say “Golf is men in bad pants walking”
@detailer Boy that is true. I had been in the hospital after cancer surgery and my surgical oncologist came to see me wearing red and black plaid pants. He had come from the golf course. I have no idea why he even remotely thought those things looked anything other than completely dorky and stupid.
@detailer @Kidsandliz Maybe the idea is to distract attention from the gut:

@Mac454 Two words: French cinema
@Mac454 Timed from snap to tackle it is 13 minutes of actual action. The remaining 3 hours is dead time.
@Hittman @Mac454 No, it’s MILLER (commercial) TIME. (And a fireworks show.)
@Hittman How about another analogy. With your argument, a chess match is only minutes of action too, and may only be seconds. So everything else is dead action while they just sit there. That’s obviously not true.

When do you all get the LIV tour branded axes?
@dewaynelawson Won’t those be sold from the back of a huge truck in the parking lot after the game?
@dewaynelawson
Working on that buzz…
OK, we’ve gotten our B.A.C. up enough, let’s get started!

If I didn’t know any better I believe these are now the new speaker docks
@somf69 Or maybe those power banks? Hard to say.
PGA gear on Super Bowl Sunday…PERFECT!
