3x Xtreme Feet Merino Wool Socks in S, M, L, or XL
A Message from the Tall Rights Activist Group
With the inclusion of an XL sock fitting a foot size of 14.5, the TRAG would like to thank Meh. Although our brethren have feet sizing up to 19 or more, we see this inclusion of an XL sock as a step in the right direction. The sun rises over the horizon. A new day is here. Stand tall, brothers. Stand tall.
Maybe if I hadn’t just bought a bunch of pairs in different weights from Duluth Trading Company. Their heavyweight wool socks are the coziest I’ve ever worn. These seem pretty lightweight.
@Gypped yeah, there’s no info I can find. I see socks like this all the time that are 5 % wool, rest polyester. Just from the picture, these look very low in wool content, plus nothing about this company online. I can get 4 pairs of People Socks for $35 that are 71% Merino Wool ,21% Nylon, 7% Poly,1% Spandex. They’re decent for the money, probably better made than these socks.
@the_inevitable People Socks are pretty good, but the pairs I’ve had wore out generally in about 1-2 years. Of course, I bought them when they were a much newer brand and trying to get out there - usually 4 for $15-20.
Most of the socks I have now are from Costco - Weatherproof socks. They have a much lower wool %, but they seem to be lasting pretty well so far. And they’re MUCH cheaper, 4 for $10 when not on sale.
Fabric Content:
47% Acrylic
24% Polyester
15% Wool
12% Cotton
2% Lycra Spandex
@Gypped Yeah, mine are a little weak in the toes, but I also wear them daily. For the price, though, it’s not bad. I usually try to hit REI in spring when all the wool socks go on clearance, but I’ve been negligent this year.
I also like the moisture wicking part so I can wear them year round. The synthetic socks just don’t feel right any more.
@a13z Most of the “good” brands of Merino Wool socks are 70-85%. Good point to bring up! Also, are this THICK or THIN Merino Wool socks? My Costco are THICK Merino Wool. They do sell “dress socks” made of Merino Wool and “ladies” Merino Wool socks, both appear to be thin.
I am 58 years old, and made the switch to Merino Wool socks this year, and could not be happier! I live in Houston, TX, so Merino Wool socks are not just for cold weather. As for price, go to Amazon and search for Merino Wool socks, you will find the price is all over the the place, I have seen a single pair of Merino Wool socks cost more than this. That said, I stocked up (or should I say SOCKED up!!) on Costco 17.99/6 pair of Merino Wool socks. Google Merino Wool Socks to find discussions about “the converted”! I got rid of all my other socks, and have only Merino Wool socks in my sock drawer.
Oh, the Costco Merino Wool Socks are:
72% Merino Wool
27% Nylon
1% Spandex
Made in USA with imported Merino Wool
OH MY GOD THEY HAD THE PERFECT PRODUCT TO SHOWCASE GLEN BUT THEY CHOSE NOT TO BECAUSE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN TOTALLY CLICHE AND ANYWAY ITS BEEN DONE OR MAYBE THEY WERE JUST BONEHEADS AND DIDN’T THINK OF IT THIS TIME!!!
NOW we’re talking. Are these on the same level as “Boombas” or “Darn Tough” socks? Those were recommended when I mentioned my plantar fasciitis issues in the last socks thread.
This looks like a personal producer(it looks like overseas?) who purchased the logo design via contact bid. All that adds up to a big red flag when it comes to socks with specialty wool, especially when there’s not any standard on blending.
@hchavers I get being vegan, but wool does have great environmental aspects - cleaning up environmental carbon, no fertilizer required, high level of recycling (most fibers are never recycled), etc.
@hchavers seriously though, you need to educate yourself about wool and domestic sheep. Sheep need their wool shorn every year, because they can’t shed. There are reasons there’s been a relationship between humans and sheep for millennia. They are not killed for it, and the majority of sheep farmers are responsible and treat their flocks well.
Woo-hoo! Socks in sizes other than “men’s”. Thanks Meh!
Boo! No info on fiber content. I need a couple of pairs of new socks and wear exclusively high merino wool content socks. But without knowing what these socks are actually made of, this is a hard pass (meh pass? hard meh?).
I have too many socks. We live near some of the mills that make for Costco, the military and others. They have sales you would not believe. Like 24 pair for $10. Of course they are irregs. But hey they work. Pass.
@apexmike@tinamarie1974
I had to give my VMP meh socks to my dad as I’m a size 16. After reading more above I see that those were only up to 14.5, but that’s at least in the ballpark
@apexmike@tinamarie1974
Really, really hard, especially if looking for anything specific. Nordstrom Rack used to have some shoes for me, but now inexplicably just has UGGs and the fugliest boots you’ve ever seen, occasionally offset by some loafers that are in awful colors.
I usually have to resort to ordering three or four pairs from Zappos and just sending back until I get something that kinda works.
I did find a local shoe chain that actually occasionally does carry big stuff, but usually they’re in the $180 range for New Balance
I wear an 11, and for a woman that is big, but I can SOMETIMES find shoes at TJ Maxx, always Nordstroms and I found a specialty shoe company that has womens sizes from 4 to 13 narrow to double wide.
I’ve been wearing mostly merino wool socks for fifteen years (with a few cotton socks thrown in) in a million different weights, and I’ve generally stayed with seconds from Smartwool and Darn Tough. Unfortunately, there are some lousy merino blends out there, so even at this price, I’m wary. Personally, I never put my wool socks in the dryer, since I’m wary of them not only shrinking, but felting.
@brakeforbeer if they’re superwash, you can put them in the dryer, but then they have a coating that negates a lot of the nice feel and properties of wool.
I didn’t get the email until 8:25 EST, why bother selling this if there’s none left when I get the email telling me about it? This is not the first time this has happened. You guys are really starting to suck.
@cgobear69 Meh at Midnight, it’s a standing invite… That’s like complaining about no one letting you know the day changed from Monday to Tuesday until 8pm.
Are there any reviews on the producer’s products or this brand? Can’t find any. Was thinking yes but now thinking nah… $14 is a good deal for decent socks, but I cannot seem to tell if they are decent. I didn’t know the whole “special treatment” for non-treated wool socks.
I was wondering why people couldn’t find any info on Xtreme Feet other than the little bits and pieces mentioned above. At this point it’s my theory that they are new and are using Meh as a way of “breaking out” into the market and generating initial sales. This used to happen on woot from time to time.
Though if that was the case, it would have been nice if meh said that up front in the description. Would make it easier to give this company a shot, rather than looking like a series of red flags…
Sigh Only small left for the 4pm release and even those were sold out in less than two minutes. Apparently people like possibly good socks offered in a variety of sizes. Maybe these will be back at some point.
So I actually ordered the socks. They were just delivered and the size small and size medium Both say the same shoe size…ummm not sure how that works but the medium looks like it Might be a little larger than the small. Hmmmm…
Now that they have arrived, I think the only issue with these socks is that the tag is mislabled. It says Medium is US-size 5.5-7.5. However, they fit my 9.5 feet very well. The Listing on Meh described the size accurately: Medium=8.0-9.5. (BTW, they’re really warm and comfy!)

Mehhhhhh
What the heck meh? Where’s Glen? He’s your literal sock puppet!
@therealjrn I was thinking the SAME THING >:c
Maybe if I hadn’t just bought a bunch of pairs in different weights from Duluth Trading Company. Their heavyweight wool socks are the coziest I’ve ever worn. These seem pretty lightweight.
Just to be clear, each order is 3 pairs of socks, not 3 individual socks, correct? This isn’t like a pot or a flashlight glove thing, right?
What are the construction materials? It’s nice that the company says they’re merino wool socks and all, but what % is actually wool?
And that MSRP is honestly ridiculous. That’s normal price for Darn Tough socks, and those come with an actual lifetime warranty.
@Gypped and no country of origin on either the website, Amazon or here.
@Gypped @the_inevitable Yeah, I’m not gonna bite unless someone has some info on these.

@Gypped On the Amazon link, the seller just replied to someone’s question and says 60% merino wool.
Are these 5% merino wool? 80%? 100%? .001%?
@a13z Most of the “good” brands of Merino Wool socks are 70-85%. Good point to bring up! Also, are this THICK or THIN Merino Wool socks? My Costco are THICK Merino Wool. They do sell “dress socks” made of Merino Wool and “ladies” Merino Wool socks, both appear to be thin.
Do NOT Google “Xtreme Feet”. Especially on a work computer.
@cpierce all I get are high performance orthotics and prosthetics…
@cpierce @the_inevitable 'Cause Google KNOWS what you like!

@BuddTX cotton socks can still be nice, but def don’t like Poly socks. Check out People Socks… Made in USA, good wool content, good price.
@the_inevitable Will do, thanks!

Toe to tip!
@dvermilion Are we doxxing ourselves now?
Just a heads up, since nobody can seem to find any info on these…

I am a vegewearer. Only cotton for me.
@hchavers you monster. Those poor cotton plants being stripped of their bolls just so YOU can have socks.
@lyoness at least that can’t run away
@hchavers I get being vegan, but wool does have great environmental aspects - cleaning up environmental carbon, no fertilizer required, high level of recycling (most fibers are never recycled), etc.
@hchavers Your shoes must wear out quickly, then.
@hchavers seriously though, you need to educate yourself about wool and domestic sheep. Sheep need their wool shorn every year, because they can’t shed. @Shagbert Wooden shoes really last a long time.
Baa
“Deal paused until 8 AM ET.”
Baaaaa-d decision!
Woo-hoo! Socks in sizes other than “men’s”. Thanks Meh!
Boo! No info on fiber content. I need a couple of pairs of new socks and wear exclusively high merino wool content socks. But without knowing what these socks are actually made of, this is a hard pass (meh pass? hard meh?).
I’m just trying to figure out the math that makes this “Two for Tuesday”.
@sdansmith Two feet?
I have too many socks. We live near some of the mills that make for Costco, the military and others. They have sales you would not believe. Like 24 pair for $10. Of course they are irregs. But hey they work. Pass.
@rustyh3
You mean like two heals? 8 toes? Two open ends?
@RedOak @rustyh3 Maybe the 24 pair are in 16 packs of 3.
Nice…But I don’t have any feet.
@Bumplepimp They would make nice hand warmers.
Are these superwash wool? i.e. can I launder them normally or do they need special care? (special care meaning handwashing and flat drying)
Impressive, a more rare than in the past, “Deal Pause” till the morning…
On the Amazon link, the seller just replied to someone’s question and says 60% merino wool.
/giphy bitty-adaptable-rule
Only Bigfoot and Ballerina sizes remain.
@apexmike well I need Bigfoot size and now it’s just small. Oh well
@apexmike @guyfromhawthorn bigfoot you say?!?!?! LOL
@apexmike @guyfromhawthorn @tinamarie1974 You know what they say…
@apexmike @tinamarie1974
I had to give my VMP meh socks to my dad as I’m a size 16. After reading more above I see that those were only up to 14.5, but that’s at least in the ballpark
@apexmike @guyfromhawthorn oh my gosh! All kidding aside, how hard is it to find shoes that fit?
@apexmike @guyfromhawthorn @macromeh holy crap, why did I never notice that is Lawrence Fishburn???
@apexmike @tinamarie1974
Really, really hard, especially if looking for anything specific. Nordstrom Rack used to have some shoes for me, but now inexplicably just has UGGs and the fugliest boots you’ve ever seen, occasionally offset by some loafers that are in awful colors.

I did find a local shoe chain that actually occasionally does carry big stuff, but usually they’re in the $180 range for New Balance
@apexmike @guyfromhawthorn that totally stinks.
I wear an 11, and for a woman that is big, but I can SOMETIMES find shoes at TJ Maxx, always Nordstroms and I found a specialty shoe company that has womens sizes from 4 to 13 narrow to double wide.
@apexmike @tinamarie1974
My wife also wears an 11 and usually gets her “cute boots” at Torrid, but also has to order athletic shoes from Zappos
@apexmike @guyfromhawthorn oh yes, Torrid is another good spot. Your wife is a smart lady!
You sold out of everything but small by 8:03 est, why did you hold it for EST
I’ve been wearing mostly merino wool socks for fifteen years (with a few cotton socks thrown in) in a million different weights, and I’ve generally stayed with seconds from Smartwool and Darn Tough. 7 am central and all that’s left are small. Fuck.
Did any of these get set aside for VMP’s?
About the very LAST thing I’d expect to sell well on Meh, and they’re gone before 9AM. Go figure.
Sold out of all but Small… before sunrise? Socks for me
Costco sells 72% merino wool thick crew socks 6 pair for 18.99. I wear them every winter, and they keep my feet warm. Better sock (imo) better price.
@olperfesser I love the Costco merino wool socks - I wear them in all seasons.
I didn’t get the email until 8:25 EST, why bother selling this if there’s none left when I get the email telling me about it? This is not the first time this has happened. You guys are really starting to suck.
@cgobear69 Starting? It’s a shit show here lately
@cgobear69 Meh at Midnight, it’s a standing invite… That’s like complaining about no one letting you know the day changed from Monday to Tuesday until 8pm.
a 20 min drop?
Amazon has 80% merino wool (3 pair) for $19.99
@wickhameh that’s what I came to say.
What was it, 2 pairs per size? Sheeze, an item that people would actually buy and you are already sold out?!?
@outdoorslife i believe that may be because, erm, people actually bought them.
Are there any reviews on the producer’s products or this brand? Can’t find any. Was thinking yes but now thinking nah… $14 is a good deal for decent socks, but I cannot seem to tell if they are decent. I didn’t know the whole “special treatment” for non-treated wool socks.
Too many unknowns to commit. I’m out.
Looks like there was a contest for their logo…

Sigh Only small left for the 4pm release and even those were sold out in less than two minutes. Apparently people like possibly good socks offered in a variety of sizes. Maybe these will be back at some point.
@gt0163c only set aside 25 for VMPs.
I guess that is 150 actual socks.
I wonder how many got multiple 3 packs?
So I actually ordered the socks. They were just delivered and the size small and size medium Both say the same shoe size…ummm not sure how that works but the medium looks like it Might be a little larger than the small. Hmmmm…
Now that they have arrived, I think the only issue with these socks is that the tag is mislabled. It says Medium is US-size 5.5-7.5. However, they fit my 9.5 feet very well. The Listing on Meh described the size accurately: Medium=8.0-9.5. (BTW, they’re really warm and comfy!)
@Ambiverbal are we talking men’s or women’s sizing?
I think we need to go the way of European sizing and just go by cm. It would be way less confusing.
been wearing them for the last week…really great socks…
@fastharrydotcom I was gonna say the same thing. Glad I took a chance on them.
@actionPacked 3 weeks in, still wearing them, lol…should have bought six…anyway, glad you like them…Merry Christmas…
I regret not buying these…
Four years in, no sign of wear. Wish I’d bought more.
