TITANIUM DIOXIDE* (FOR COLOR), YELLOW 6, RED 40, YELLOW 5, BLUE 1.
CONTAINS A BIOENGINEERED FOOD INGREDIENT
*The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) concluded that titanium dioxide could no longer be considered safe as a food additive due to concerns regarding genotoxicity (the ability to damage DNA).
Speaking of doing the research, “we could not exclude genotoxicity concerns” is a long way from “it’s genotoxic”. If this meta-study were peer-reviewed, it would not have been accepted by any major medical journal. Meanwhile, a large number of critical papers detailing the flaws in both the EFSA’s methodology and the studies included in that metastudy have passed peer review.
Warheit, 2024, is a pretty decent metastudy of the papers critical of the EFSA’s metastudy. It’s lengthy.
IMO, if there are risks, they are so tiny we haven’t been able to detect them in humans or rats, even with some pretty horrible overfeeding tests on rats. Meanwhile, the risks for the top three ingredients are extremely well-known.
I was gonna ask if these were different flavors because of the various colors of the candies but trusty Google AI answered my question. In case anyone else wants to know, here’s your answer:
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don’t care what humans think is impossible.
@gnafuthemeh specifically, it was the bumblebee and science figured it out. the real head explosion gif is that science isn’t 100% sure why airplane wings actually make planes fly or why bicycles don’t fall over immediately when they start rolling.
@gnafuthemeh@russellmz News flash: Science, unlike religion, isn’t 100% sure of why anything happens. The best we can do is to come up with a theory, and then challenge the world to attack it. And then modify the theory and try again.
[Religion is based on belief - science is based on scepticism.]
@gnafuthemeh Bullshit. There are plenty of laws of aviation that apply to bees. They fly more like helicopters than planes, which is where the folk confusion comes from.
You’re propagating the same kind of misinformation like the tongue taste map.
@russellmz both airplane wings and bicycles are extremely well-understood. we’re at a stage where we are optimizing the last couple feet of the wing to reduce tip vortices to gain tiny reductions in drag because they equate to millions of dollars in jet fuel savings. we have glider wings so optimized they can stay in the air from sunup to sundown.
the thing we don’t have is an education system able to teach beyond the most basic (and therefore most wrong) model of lift until college-level physics.
I love sour foods. I have malic and citric acid that I use for cooking, and one night my friends and I kept upping the amounts we could tolerate. Besides the numbing pain, after a certain amount it begins to taste vinegary. You can buy bags of both that don’t have worrysome colorings or cancer ingredients.
That said, sour patch kids are one of the better sour candies and happy meh has something besides whatever has been.

@MrGoodGuy Google AI is the polar opposite of trusty.

@gnafuthemeh My MIL is impossible, but there she is.

@gdorn @russellmz so we probably really don’t want to get into the bypass ratio of “jet” engines never mind open prop

@KNmeh7 I always have citric acid on hand. I don’t think I’ve applied it to a competition though lol. Makes me think of sortedfoods poker face.
Also good for cleaning things same as vinegar. Pickling things
