@onae Horrible tasting. I got the jalapeno and my wife stopped me from giving them out as a trick. They taste nothing like cheese puffs More like ground up cardboard.
@onae@samsalowitz The ONLY thing in their flavor is they are crunchy. The cheddar jalapeño had an unusual metallic after taste.
Relieved I didn’t pay full retail for them. We still have half a box from the last time they were sold as the daily offering. NO ONE likes them. Not even the dogs, and they like EVERYTHING.
@awk I got the cheddar jalapeno and fiery hot ones last time. They are bland AF, with the fiery hots being slightly better. They taste sort of like those Whisps parmesan crisps, except without the yummy parmesan flavor.
@BethanyAnne@ShotgunX HiLo Life Keto Tortilla Style Chips in nacho flavor are better than Quest chips hands down.
We were buying them at Costco in the big family sized bags during the summer. Around $7, for a pound sized bag. Sure wish they’d bring them back.
@BethanyAnne@LaVikinga@ShotgunX The Spicy Salsa HiLo Life chips have a better taste than the Nacho flavor. The chips tend to have a strong almond flavor to them that some people mistake as staleness. The Spicy Salsa masks that better and is quite tasty.
@BethanyAnne@LaVikinga@ShotgunX
The Hilo Chips are about as close to doritos and Keto as you can get! Also bought at costco, still have 2 bags left. Watch the price tags and when they are closing them out, go big on the buy in!
The only thing worse than Puffs, is well, Nothing IMO… Blech. Cheetos Crunchy or Nothing. Puffs turn to air filled Slime in your mouth… LMAO… Super Meh!
Got these the last time. They aren’t bad but I wouldn’t get them again. Hard to describe but they kind of had an aftertaste. If you’ve ever gotten the dried cheese snacks and tasted that kind of aftertaste that’s what I am trying to describe. I still have some left over and was thinking of using them in some kind of casserole dish as a topping/layer.
The hot ones are “best by”… less than two weeks from now? If someone orders them then they’d likely receive them beyond that date range. I know that “best by”/“sell by” and similar “expiration” dates aren’t hard expirations, and these dried-ish items are probably fine for a while beyond the listed date, but food retailers pull products by that point. Selling the ones that expire in January is kind of pushing it (unless they really only come with ~4 month dating from the factory) but I’m honestly kind of shocked that you’re offering any perishable products that are “best by” as soon as 4 days from today.
@justdrooit Well I know many food items in general (especially dried/low-moisture things) are fine beyond the “best/use-by” dates which as I wrote are not strict “expiration/discard after” dates. I’ve definitely had stale chips before, they certainly do go bad, the question is after how long? And these things aren’t even “chips,” they’re weird faux-cheese puffs I guess? So who knows how long they’re actually good, and judging by quite a few of the testimonials here, they’re apparently bad even when they’re in-date!
@Atomizer well most keto snacks have a tendency to have an off flavor or off texture simply because of what they’re made of. Some people expect a perfect 1 for 1 comparison with non-keto snacks and that’s never the case, especially if they use something like almond flour, which can have a flavor consistent with what some people would consider stale.
But you are absolutely right that it’s a bit of a guess around that best-by date. A lot depends on the package being intact, whether it was stored in correct environmental conditions, etc etc. Yep, stale chips suck.
I got the barbeque last time. I ate one bag so far. I don’t remember gagging on them. Sometime today I will try another bag. If I decide they aren’t too bad, I might come back & buy. That is if they don’t sell out.
They did not sell out, yet. Another 24 bags of the barbeque for me! They aren’t… good. But they did not make me gag. Dropped one, the dog at it, so I figured good enough for her, good enough.
I fully regret spending actual money on these last time. All three flavors are terrible. I couldn’t finish even one bag of any of them. Worst keto “snack” I’ve had yet. I’ll stick to making my own snacks or just not eating. lol
More serious Keto folk would probably like these. I say that because over time they tend to miss their old salty snacks and they will sacrifice a little texture or slight oddness to satisfy that urge.
I wonder if these (and all the other food stuff meh has been selling recently) ages as well as candy corn? I mean that went from candy to building bricks to living on in legend.
I am one of those hard core keto people, and I found the BBQ flavor pretty tolerable. Last time it was $12 for a pack of 12, or $1.00 apiece, and they had “sold out” of the Cheddar Jalapeño. Now it’s 24 for $18, 3/4 the price of just 3 weeks ago. Something to nibble on during down time at work, although I gotta say, with the new flavors of pork rinds coming out, I am turning to those more and more. And rinds make an awesome replacement for chips when eating low carb dips!
@dred I’m also Low carbing. I wasn’t going to buy these because I can’t eat spicy food (but the BF can) but everyone says these are not very spicy, so maybe?
Is Keto anything like Cheato, the tasteless orange junk food that got ripped off at the poles last November? Or is my neighbor, a Mr. Gay Fawkes, just too full of it to eat another bite of delicious Covfefe?
Got the cheddar jalapeno ones last time and they are disgusting. The third bag I ate was especially bad and will not be eating any more of them. It’s the equivalent of having a protein bar instead of a candy bar but way worse. There is a very strange tangy flavor that really just reminds me of whey protein powder but salty and barely any actual cheese flavor. They also aren’t spicy for something with jalapeno in the name.
I bought two last time (BBQ and Fire Hot) and I love them. I’ve been told that if you’re lactose intolerant, these taste like poison, but I love em. In for 3.
It’s a lot too late to say this, but my limited experience with keto snacks and recipes has been that the fancier it is, the more likely it becomes that it’s crap. My favorite keto snack is one I don’t get very often; five In-N-Out burger patties (just the meat) with grilled onions. My mainstream one is dry roast pecans that I do here at home.
I got the Flaming Hot. They’re alright. I don’t know if I’ll get through all the bags, but they could “scratch the itch” a little bit. I was very disappointed to see the Best By date is 5 days after the shipment arrived, and I didn’t open it til today (12 days after the Best By date). I’m sure that’s just a suggestion but still kinda sucks.

Hmm, single serve individually packaged packing peanuts. Interesting
@onae Horrible tasting. I got the jalapeno and my wife stopped me from giving them out as a trick. They taste nothing like cheese puffs More like ground up cardboard.

Is this meh’s new candy corn?
@ShotgunX After trying some I’d rather have the candy corn back
Yeah - I’ll take a puff-puff-pass
/giphy retch
why do I suspect the requisite beer accompaniment would be counterproductive?
I got these last time… I liked the BBQ the best. The other two were pretty disappointing, especially the cheddar jalepeño, which just tasted bland.
In summary, if you like crunchy snacks but don’t care what they taste like, tonight’s your night!
/giphy go for it
@awk thank you for telling us about the flavors. My partner and I were just deciding if we should get his BBQ or also cheddar jalapeño. Now we know
@awk I got the cheddar jalapeno and fiery hot ones last time. They are bland AF, with the fiery hots being slightly better. They taste sort of like those Whisps parmesan crisps, except without the yummy parmesan flavor.
Give Me Frigo Cheeseheads Or Give Me Meh
@thechinglish They have a crunchy version?
Spicy Puff, the lost Power Puff girl.
I prefer

I got the cheddar jalapeño last time. They were … fine. Not as good as real snacks, but I’m on keto, so I’ll take what I can get.
@BethanyAnne Try Quest chips.
@BethanyAnne @ShotgunX HiLo Life Keto Tortilla Style Chips in nacho flavor are better than Quest chips hands down.
We were buying them at Costco in the big family sized bags during the summer. Around $7, for a pound sized bag. Sure wish they’d bring them back.
@ShotgunX Thanks!
@LaVikinga @ShotgunX Ooo, that sounds good. Thanks!
@BethanyAnne @LaVikinga @ShotgunX The Spicy Salsa HiLo Life chips have a better taste than the Nacho flavor. The chips tend to have a strong almond flavor to them that some people mistake as staleness. The Spicy Salsa masks that better and is quite tasty.
@BethanyAnne agreed, they are “OK” like i can eat 2/3rds of a bag before i start noticing the odd taste.
@BethanyAnne @LaVikinga @ShotgunX
The Hilo Chips are about as close to doritos and Keto as you can get! Also bought at costco, still have 2 bags left. Watch the price tags and when they are closing them out, go big on the buy in!
@justdrooit @LaVikinga @ShotgunX I’ll see if I can find some. Thanks!
@BethanyAnne Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to track them down to give them a try.
These were like Cheetos made of saw dust.
This isn’t about stock car racers. Stupid story.
The only thing worse than Puffs, is well, Nothing IMO… Blech. Cheetos Crunchy or Nothing. Puffs turn to air filled Slime in your mouth… LMAO… Super Meh!

@jaynedough Metallic or bitter aftertaste?
My cat hates these. Worst cat treats ever.
@mexicantacos Hay caramba!

@Atomizer You apparently never shop for food products at any of the “dollar” stores.
@Atomizer unopened chips kept in good environmental conditions will last well beyond the Best By date.
@Atomizer @justdrooit
So like candy corn basically good forever?
@phendrick That’s correct, but you say that like it’s a bad thing…
@justdrooit Well I know many food items in general (especially dried/low-moisture things) are fine beyond the “best/use-by” dates which as I wrote are not strict “expiration/discard after” dates. I guess what makes them schoolyard snacks is that kids dare each other to eat them?
I bought them for $1 a bag last time (cheddar jalapeño) and will not buy again. The protein and calories are nice, but that’s it.
I fully regret spending actual money on these last time. All three flavors are terrible. I couldn’t finish even one bag of any of them. Worst keto “snack” I’ve had yet. I’ll stick to making my own snacks or just not eating. lol

@justdrooit Pork rinds are alright. Assuming you get a good brand.
@Fuzzalini @justdrooit Pork rinds dipped in Bitchin’ Sauce. You’re welcome.
I wonder if these (and all the other food stuff meh has been selling recently) ages as well as candy corn? I mean that went from candy to building bricks to living on in legend.
I got these last time and I regret it. The cheddar jalapeno flavour is awful.
BBQ is aight, especially if you’re accustomed to low carb weirdness. The cheddar jalapeño tastes like hot garbage.
@stenson

Barbeque tastes really bad. Pretty much unedible. Eat some pork rinds instead
My Wife liked the Barbeque ones enough to request another order.
/giphy slim-valiant-centipede
There. Fixed it.
@werehatrack They junk. they’re ly in’
Fixed it fixed it.
These have got to be the worst things I’ve ever tasted. Why did I do this to myself? Dear god.
The first few chews Cheddar Jalapeno actually tastes like food. Then it softens up into some kind of horrible plasticky paste. I regret it.
The first few bites I knew that I wasted my money. I should have moved them from the mail to the trash
They were disgusting. I’m so sad I have 23 bags left! What a waste.
It’s a lot too late to say this, but my limited experience with keto snacks and recipes has been that the fancier it is, the more likely it becomes that it’s crap.
