@Bcburk Zinc is good for your immunity. Should come in handy this winter, but by then the hose will probably freeze. That’s quite the Catch-22… Oh well, good luck!
Some reviews Great, Some Not so good!. I liked my last expandable hose, until I realized I shouldn’t have pulled on it… OOPS… Maybe I can fix it… Maybe not. Different brand. Word of advice, don’t use the fabric hose to pull the other hose out of the reel house…
I once was in Riverside, CA, there was a rare rain that night and in the morning I was shocked to see mountains through the now (temporarily) clear air.
@catthegreat@SnakeJG California causes cancer. They should just put a big Prop 65 billboard at every location where people enter the state, and be done with it. NOBODY tracks exactly what the Prop65 warning applies to, or what it is at any specific location, so the whole thing is just idiotic.
@ambimb Weird, you say it’s $2 cheaper on Amazon, meh says it’s $79, I see it’s $62 (for two) on Amazon. Do they just price things at random numbers now?
@ambimb I have a different brand. Seems Amazon has a lot of them and they’re all fairly comparable. Can probably find one cheaper there in the exact size/specs you need. That said, I’ve had mine for a year and it is great! Biggest plus: lightweight and super quick and easy to put back, even if you’re feeling lazy. Just turn off water and let hose drain. Can fit in a small flower pot or 5 gallon bucket. I’ll never buy an “old fashioned” hose again.
What kind of longevity could I expect from these expandable hoses? I have a “normal” hose I’ve had stored outside, partially covered, for about a decade and it still works, but I’m expecting it to crack or something soon.
@Limewater Not this brand, but I’ve bought a set (50’ and a 25’) of “high quality” hoses similar to these the last two years. Aware that they’re ‘delicate’ I’m very careful to not pull hard on them when moving them around. Despite that, one hose sprung a hopeless leak this summer. They’re great for storing in a large pot near the hose bib when not in use, but if you want something you can treat like a ‘normal’ hose for another decade, forget these!
@Limewater In my experience 3-4 years if you’re super careful with them. It may vary by brand. One key thing to note, before you turn the water on and expand the hose, move the nozzle as close as possible (without stretching) to the farthest away place you’re watering, then walk back and turn the water on. It seems to save wear & tear on the hose.
so this came at an opportune time… literally just popped my existing expandable hose yesterday…I’d had it for over 2 years and outside in New Mexico and Texas for context… saves me a trip to home despot…yeah I said that right…now I need a handyman… what else ya’ll got in that warehouse?
@amehzinggrace I just moved and need all sorts of stuff. I was going to go to Lowes for a hose today. But now I’ll just wait two weeks for it to come.
Meh, my son wants an LED strip light for his room. My house plants want to be in bigger, coordinating pots. We don’t have enough outlets, so need longer phone cords. How about a temperature-controlled bidet and dehumidifiers? That would be great. Thanks!

WHAT! HAPPENED! TO! THE! SURVEY!?
Warning! DO NOT BUY! These hoses are terrible if you need a serious hose that, ahem, works. Expandable hoses are notorious for being fragile and difficult to use. They do NOT reach their advertised lengths and rip easily.
@betterways Typically that’s a feature that’s straight up advertised (and charged for) on the packaging, so I doubt these are drinking water safe. All the expandable hoses I’ve bought in the last 10 years all seem to say “DO NOT DRINK FROM HOSE” on the packaging.
The writeup is correct that there are some crap pocket hoses out there, but if you look around even a little, there are also a bunch of quality ones at roughly the same price as today’s deal. The stated “normal” price seems like MSRP that is always discounted anyway.
I bought this one two years ago (also 4-layer latex, also brass fittings), and it’s currently $23.19 with the clipped coupon, $22.03 final cost if you have a Prime card.
If you don’t want to support Amazon and only need one hose, similar models can be had for $30 elsewhere.
Received these yesterday. There is a card in the box for a free gift (one of which is another 50ft hose) with no shipping or anything. I’m gonna give it a shot, lol!
They want the order number to verify the purchase. Do you think that would be the three word Meh order identifier? Or would there be an actual order number somewhere?
@k4evryng Betcha those were originally listed with Amazon, and their “free gift” offer expects an Amazon order number that they can’t track anymore. Usually, attempts to collect on those are met with a request to post a five-star review on Amazon to get the “gift”. It’s a once-ubiquitous practice which Amazon eventually got around to Frowning Upon.

Is that a hose in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
@lichme no
@lichme Just a hose.
@lichme @yakkoTDI Expendable one.
/image take off you hoser!
@lichme @katbyter Hey, you BOTH beat me to my go-to hose-related punchlines. I’ve been hanging out with you forum hosebeasts for too long, apparently!
@ircon96 @katbyter @lichme GOOD DAY, eh!
@BuddTX @katbyter @lichme Beauty!
@katbyter That was no goal eh! He was in the crease!
@katbyter Take off, hoser…Look for me on another label, eh!
Hey!! Who stole our survey question??
@IndifferentDude I don’t know but it is not in my runk. I swear.
Bros before hose!
Twofer Tuesday, sans survey question.
So you can connect them to make it 100’? How do the parts work?
@lonnyzone Just like any hose, yeah. They have a male garden hose connector on one end and female on the other.
@hobbified @lonnyzone Geez, i didn’t think the garden hose topic would become R-rated so soon!
@lonnyzone The Specs listed above are your best friend! Make it a habit to visit them often!!
Quoted from Specs:
Zinc Sprayers? But my garden uses water….

And Where is My Damned Survey???
@Mandamm Maybe the person in charge took a 4-day weekend??
Isn’t it illegal to sell hose on the internet?
Original No, it is only illegal for Ho’s to sell their services on the internet.
@TBoneZeOriginal Ho. Ho. Ho.
@gertiestn @TBoneZeOriginal I think we need to research that. Ho 1 is “meh sells hoses on the internet”.
hhhhh
No poll today? Did it get hosed away?
@hammi99 My money is on the cat in the video mistook it for a mouse and then ate it!
I’m guessing the answer is no, but are these certified for drinking water? Are they lead free? Does California think they’ll cause cancer?
@SnakeJG california thinks air causes cancer
@catthegreat @SnakeJG
We do (by majority rule no less, or so “they” say)
@SnakeJG I’m pretty sure the ones we drank out of as kids were not certified.
@katbyter yeah, I try to do better for my kids, since we now know how bad lead is for growing brains.
@catthegreat I’ve been to California and sampled their air. They’re right. California air will cause cancer.
@catthegreat @SnakeJG Well considering how opaque CA air can be it just might.
I once was in Riverside, CA, there was a rare rain that night and in the morning I was shocked to see mountains through the now (temporarily) clear air.

So, the same set appears to be $2 cheaper on Amazon. Did Amazon drop price to undercut Meh or what?
@ambimb Weird, you say it’s $2 cheaper on Amazon, meh says it’s $79, I see it’s $62 (for two) on Amazon. Do they just price things at random numbers now?
@ambimb The 100 ft hose I see on Amazon is a single hose vs 2 50 footers. But it is cheaper if you need one long hose instead of 2 shorter ones.
@ambimb @ravenblack Plus free shipping with Prime. So it’s $50 vs $62.
@ambimb
I’ve never had one of these “expanding” hoses last more than a few uses. Hard pass.
@Pufferfishy That’s what she said!
/giphy rimshot
/giphy sad trombone
@Pufferfishy Me too…Is this one any different?
@Pufferfishy @werekong It’s call expendable for a reason.
@bmf @Pufferfishy Now, I know…

@elboku Normal usage does not include biting it, fyi.
@elboku @mcanavino Well, the dog was biting it in their video. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Does anyone know if they are drinking water safe? If they made of latex?
@betterways Typically that’s a feature that’s straight up advertised (and charged for) on the packaging, so I doubt these are drinking water safe. All the expandable hoses I’ve bought in the last 10 years all seem to say “DO NOT DRINK FROM HOSE” on the packaging.
