These are dumb RGB strips looking at the last picture, but the first picture is a smart RGB with a Din and Dout. The middle pic is just a white led strip, no rgb.
@braveit1 All 3 pictures that show the strips show completely different things. This is really pushing past what I would consider “mediocrity.” I’d buy the first picture for sure, wouldn’t touch the 2nd at this price. The 3rd is a real solid meh.
@braveit1@Lynnerizer@masterhibb the weighting factor here would be that the addressable rgbs are the ones pictured on the box. I would order believing that’s what I would receive. I think the same stock photos were used with previous LED strip sales and there was similar discussion about none of the photos matching.
@sammydog01 if addressability is your concern, it’s iffy. It’s a good price if these are addressable lights.
If you want some mood lighting you can control from your phone and only plan to use it in solid colors (not having, for example, animated patterns run through the lights) these will be fine for that. It’s an OK price for whole strip RGB control.
@djslack These just arrived. The box is identical to the box in the photo. The light strip looks like the third photo except it says 5v instead of 12v. And it’s black. Definitely doesn’t match the box. So they’re dumb? I guess that’s why Meh got them?
@djslack@sammydog01 so not only are they dumb rgb, but they are only 5v and not 12v? That means you cant connect as many strips end to end without power injection as you would if they where 12v. Most rgb leds are 5v (voltage differs per color) and use resistors to drop the voltqge for each individual color. Even the 12v strips use 5v leds. But the 12v strips have more power to go longer distances without voltage drops, so you can connect 3 strops together for longer runs. With the 5v strips the colors will degrade quickly after the first strip. You can use power injection after each strip but that requires extra thicker wire. So if these are 5v dumb rgb, thats even worse than we imagined. The only thing worse could have been just a single color. Meh
That means the company went from branding its products to dumping them on Meh in 6 months. The only Google hits I found for both the trademark itself and the company that owns it are related to trademark applications in various countries.
With a track record like that, there could be anything in those boxes. On the other hand, the young age does make cheap fully addressable RGB LEDs more plausible.

@braveit1 @masterhibb
So which one do you think we’d get
@Lynnerizer @masterhibb i’d guess the last one with the Dumb RGB at that price.
@braveit1 @Lynnerizer @masterhibb the weighting factor here would be that the addressable rgbs are the ones pictured on the box. I would order believing that’s what I would receive. I think the same stock photos were used with previous LED strip sales and there was similar discussion about none of the photos matching.
@braveit1 @Lynnerizer @masterhibb oof, never mind, but the edit window is going to document my confidence. The manufacturer’s site specifies 16 colors and shows dumb RGB strips in the photos. My confidence would be low. https://simplytechcorp.com/featured-products-1
@braveit1 @djslack @Lynnerizer @masterhibb I just ordered them. Time to cancel? Or is this a good price for what’s in the box?

@djslack I don’t know what that means so I guess I’ll keep them. It’s a gift so it will be someone else’s problem.
@sammydog01
That’s the spirit!
They will be fine colored LED lights. The addressable stuff is advanced usage, I think you’re right it will be OK.

@sammydog01 weird. Yes, if it has r,g,b lines then they are not addressable lights, the whole strip changes color at once.

Fingers crossed that the app works.
The trademark in the upper right corner of the box was granted only 6 months ago. https://www.trademarkelite.com/trademark/trademark-detail/90741754/mark
