I’ve 4 of these tennis racket style flying insect swatters which i use during the warmer times of the year to kill gnats & lately i’ve used them to kill fleas!! The swatters work fine on those insects, but larger insects like houseflies, wasps, etc is not advised because they tend to fry & stink up the place!! The only warning i would suggest is never touch the screen with two parts of the body, such as both hands, one hand & your ear, or face, etc!! Touching the screen with One hand is okay,…it won’ bite you!! OH,… & these tools aren’t to be used on crawling bugs, e.g., roaches, stink bugs or spiders, etc!
@1DisabledWarVet to avoid them stinking up, I turn the swatter off once I’m sure the bug is dead, then quickly drop it drop off the screen. It has worked so far, the stink only stays where the zapping happened
These are very popular among many in Mexico to swat at mosquitoes as trying to enjoy the night sky or a pleasant patio drink. Oddly satisfying to dispatch a tormentor (and many are carriers of disease, like dengue). Having every possible weapon available is important.
I gifted one of these to my parents a couple of years ago, my dad absolutely loves it. They have a container for compost they clear out weekly and sometimes fruit flies will come out during the warmer season, he just leaves the swatter laying on top of the opening and you’ll hear the things getting zapped nonstop.
I have the ones powered by 2x D batteries. Not awesome on flies but great for crawling insects, like beetles and even wasps. Let them crawl on and then zap them.
@andymand@jamesmcp
Likewise I still have my HF zapper from back in the day when they would give you a free item just for bringing in the coupon and showing up at the store! I miss those days. I’m still using a lot of the things I got that way.
In for 2. I use these all the time, especially this time of year in Florida with the doors open with the mosquito screens from Ollie’s. And the oblong ones I’ve used seem better than the round ones
“ It’s not exactly bug season…” Actually, it is peak bug season for those of us in Florida. One of the great things about being 90° F and 90% humidity during the summer is that skeeters dislike it as much as the tourists do. Summer is legitimately my favorite season in Florida. I love the heat, the summer fruit, and the lower amount of bugs and traffic.
Got these a couple of years ago here, worth the price and they are effective! in the stand with the blue light for fruit flies, gnats, mosquitos, and swatting for flies and yellow jackets at the end of the summer!
I’ve been buying dumb shit on meh since the week it started and my wife has been getting annoyed with all of the dumb shit I buy for roughly one month shorter. She has said many times that this is the single best stupid thing I ever bought from this awful site.
I bought a pair of similar items several years ago from meh. They work OK for smaller bugs (gnats, mosquitoes, fruit flies, etc.) but not so much for the local house flies (most are too big to easily pass through the grid). They do seem to hold a charge for a long time. And it is oddly satisfying when they go ZAP!
YMMV
It’s a little unclear, will this thing run while being charged? I could see some value in setting up two of these to protect some indoor veggie containers, but only if they will run indefinitely if given constant power over USB…
(Without hacking them, of course. I could always rip out the battery and feed it a constant 4.2V, maybe even 5V, at the terminals.)
I just had a plant die in my house and an infestation of gnats and totally forgot about my electric bug swatter. I would have had so much joy zapping all those suckers to death. My katchy maching did it for me though. It’s caught a lot of bugs since summer and we had the windows open and were going in and out our doorwall.
Yesh, Yeah, I’ve have several models of these over the years and found them difficult and time consuming to chase the (poor) fly around the room to zap. and sometimes they recovered from the zap. I’ve found it much better to close the blinds everywhere except the laundry and back door. the fly will fly into there from the brighter light, then I open the back door and walk forward and the fly will fly right out, takes 3 minutes usually. Then the already tired fly (from being in the house) will likely get eaten by a bird.
I bought similar ones when Meh had them posted back in 2022 and they still work great. The difference is, these new ones have the charging cable plug directly into the tennis racket so you have to unplug it to use it. The ones a few years ago have the usb cable plug into the stand, so you can leave it standing up and charging while it’s working, and then just pick it up if you need to grab it for a quick swat nearby.

Too weak!
What’s an “electric fly”?
@chuckf1 A zipper that shocks the user.
@chuckf1 Kinda like an electric eel.
@blaineg @chuckf1 The Zipper Zapper sounds like a brand name looking for a product.
I don’t think these would be good to use on insects that crawl on the wall or floor.
@heartny You’re not trying hard enough.
@therealjrn I am, but I don’t like having big holes in the wall.
@heartny any contact with the grid will zap that bug. You can trap them on the floor or on a wall. There is no escape.
@cshupe @heartny Yep, flies landing on walls or other flat surfaces are zapped pretty quickly. The reflex to move betrays them.
@heartny You gotta serve them up like a tennis ball and WHACK!
@MrGoodGuy We’re gonna need a bigger zapper.
Thx for making this an easy “no, thanks” tonight.

/showme Person looking at giant fly with small Electric Fly Swatter saying “I’m gonna need a bigger fly swatter”.
@mediocrebot It’s actually better that the fly said it.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot Agreed!
@mediocrebot @PooltoyWolf It’s like the Dirty Harry scene where Dirty Harry says “I know what your thinking, punk. …”
@mediocrebot @PooltoyWolf Let’s make it official :
@cfg83 @mediocrebot Haaa!

@nobile
That’s brilliant
@nobile Wow, you could it that over a puddle to kill skeeters. Endless possibilities.

FOOLS! TOOLS! JEWELS! AWESOME!
@jamesmcp Great call-out about the 2D batteries; I’ve had one (I think it’s this one https://www.harborfreight.com/electronic-fly-and-insect-swatter-63681.html) for a couple decades and it still works like a champ to kill (or at least stun long enough) various intruding insects.

@llangley
hello, @pooltoywolf?
@llangley Hahaha
Electric Fry Swatters?
@IAMIS Yes, yes they are.
I was about to buy but went to check reviews and couldn’t find this specific one anywhere on the internet.

@Weboh me too

I love these, but just had to buy a set a couple months ago in the insect days of summer so I’ll pass this time.
If these are the same as sold previously, they are great. Equal in zapping power to my trusty Harbor Freight double D cell model.
Yep. Gotta love that satisfying ZZZAAPPP when they make contact with a victim…

The best zapper I’ve found so far (but not cheap): The Executioner Pro. Better design, better built; you won’t be disappointed.

@gdorn yes. Left mine standing in the charger and on for a good portion of summer
Shockingly well priced
@phelmurh

/giphy I saw what you did
@phelmurh @therealjrn It’s good to have current humor.

These work rather well, but as others have said larger flying bugs have a high chance of burning and stinking.
That aside, if we would have had these as children my brother and I probably would have zapped the crap out of each other. Perhaps literally.
@marvelljones What a nice gift idea for the grandchildren!
Even if these aren’t all that great, one can usually add another stage or two to the voltage doubler to amp them up, so…

The art of the electric flyswatter is all in the wrist: 1 whack to stun, 1 press to kill.

These are super nice. I should’ve ordered two of them.
