2x Popular Mechanics Travel Gear Bags with Powerstrip
@FLyMyPretty oh come one, you just pack one of the twenty different charger blocks that Meh has been selling for the last 5 years - lots of little compartments to tuck a couple in there, along with the cables needed.
The PopMech mindset is not to provide everything you need, but give you the flexibility to let you gear up your own kit …
I don’t believe I just used the phrase “gear up your own kit …”
@FLyMyPretty@hchavers I wouldn’t want the crappy 1A 5V USB A ports that would be included with such a powerstrip even if PM knew that USB charging existed.
@CatsAreGods from the looks of it, it’s more or less a toiletry bag so it’s not big enough for a long cord anyways besides most laptops and tablets come with long enough cords anyways
@CatsAreGods it seems like it could work well when traveling. It would work great if you needed power but both outlets in a given receptacle are in use near your airport gate or something. The short cord doesn’t matter much in that scenario because you’d be sitting on the floor next to the outlet anyway, at least with this you can use any receptacle even if both outlets are in use.
Is there a name for that? When people are huddled on the ground around the only available power receptacle at an airport? I feel like there should be a name like power troll or power gremlin or something like that…
@CatsAreGods Power strip mostly is useful for foreign countries with strange outlets, allowing you to turn one (1) travel adapter into three (3) useful outlets for your devices. Always keep one on me when I travel.
I’m going to try these - we work out in the wild a lot, and are transitioning to a lot more electric/electronic tools and tech, and I find I need more tools and support items beyond a machete sharpening stone and a tank of 50:1 gas mixture. As these tools are often smaller and more delicate, it doesn’t work to toss them in the box with the pipe wrenches (not to mention having to dig then out when needed), so with this I can keep them accessible and reasonably protected.

@stolicat I believe that’s Rush Limbaugh reacting to Trump’s announcement at the SOTU that Limbaugh was being honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Who The Fuck Needs This? The same people that “needs” the $30 hair-growing 2-month supply of the knock-off Ron Popeil head spray paint crap from the 1980’s that meh sold the other day? And if you’re still a believer after 2 months, it will only cost you $190 to keep up the growth - length or girth… Whatever. Please, meh, come up with some more useful stuff? Big brand, even?
Seriously though, that cable should at least have the sockets on different sides or rotated in different directions so that you could attach multiple bricks at the same time.
Wait. What? One is using up a carryon with this bag that doesn’t hold all that much when you can toss an extension cord, battery pack or 6 you bougth from meh earlier , etc. in a more useful carry sized on that fits a lot more?
This would be interesting if the power strip would handle 110-220v and if it came with adaptors for non-US outlets. Then it could be used on any trip and I’d probably buy it. As is, it’s kind of useless. I can do the same thing in a lot less space.
Gadget bags like this can come in handy for many things, as could the small power strip included. Alas, my discretionary spending habits have had to change recently so I must pass. For travel, I agree that the strip is overkill. I used to carry a power outlet cube when flying (smaller/lighter than this strip, I’d assume) , and was never without an outlet in an airport, and could be seen as a bit of a hero to others in need of some juice. Today, airport outlets are more plentiful and batteries last longer, so it’s no longer really a need.
@ashemo I think the problem is that this is just two small power strips and two travel bags. There’s nothing special about it. It’s not a power bank, you’d still need an outlet to plug things in and are tethered to the location. Unless you just need some nifty travel bags and want to show the world you’re a tech savvy old person then I really don’t see what the functional purpose of this is when a 10000mah power bank can be bought for about the same price, provides portable power, and can be easily stored in my carry on.

No charge outlets? Meh
I’m a sucker for strippers in a bag…

How can it not have USB ports? If it had USB ports, I’d buy it.

@FLyMyPretty Popular Mechanics does not know USB ports can be used for charging, yet.
@FLyMyPretty @hchavers I wouldn’t want the crappy 1A 5V USB A ports that would be included with such a powerstrip even if PM knew that USB charging existed.
@FLyMyPretty And thus the mystery of why this item is on Meh has been solved…
@bbf @FLyMyPretty @hchavers
No kidding meh has been selling two packs of Anker 65w charges for short money
“Polyester”?
Who needs a sweaty bag?
We all know Mehsters only want COTTON.
@phendrick at least it’s not Meh-crofiber
Sooo Crocs have come around and are cool with the youts now. Completely unironically
@thechilipepper0 yes and?
I think they gave these out for free if you let them put six issues of their magazine in your mailbox.
OTOH I’m a sucker for a gear bag. I’m not ruling it out yet.
But it better not come with any magazines.
Anybody found any reviews from actual mechanics?
Bag seems a little small to carry a piece, silencer, and ammo.
@phendrick The scene at 1:05:21 looks to be straight out of “Caddyshack”.
@rtjhnstn The movie would definitely have had a different tone if Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield had been in it.
It’s kind of interesting except the power strip cable doesn’t look long enough to be useful for anything.
@CatsAreGods from the looks of it, it’s more or less a toiletry bag so it’s not big enough for a long cord anyways besides most laptops and tablets come with long enough cords anyways

@psantora Power hungry mob
@detailer and this power strip, doubling the available outlets, makes you their leader.
In the power mob land of outlet shortages, the outlet multiplier is king?
@CatsAreGods Power strip mostly is useful for foreign countries with strange outlets, allowing you to turn one (1) travel adapter into three (3) useful outlets for your devices. Always keep one on me when I travel.
So they stuck a power strip in a toiletries bag and now it’s a “gear bag.”
@mcanavino
$0.50 bag and $2.00 power strip does not make a wonderful combination.
@Konraden Yes, very meh. Not very Meh

ok, i have no idea what that giphy is about …
@stolicat I believe that’s Rush Limbaugh reacting to Trump’s announcement at the SOTU that Limbaugh was being honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
@stolicat His viagra just kicked in.

This bag is much too large for my use, well it was when I was traveling. Now I am working from home and I still don’t need that bag.
/giphy gutsy-beastly-rice

@pmarin Doesn’t look like rice but it does look delicious.
Oh I typed it wrong

/giphy gusty-beastly-rice
@pmarin on second thought, I’ll stick with the soup with red peppers
Let’s face it, those mechanics aren’t -that- popular.
If only this came with a 3 port extension cable.
Seriously though, that cable should at least have the sockets on different sides or rotated in different directions so that you could attach multiple bricks at the same time.
Will it electrocute a dog?

Looks like a quality item! I really only need one tho…
As an actual Toyota Mirai driver, that last jab at the end cut me deeper than expected.
like this? but lots more to carry around
