@heartny I have cats. They’re pretty good at catching bugs…and then letting them go so they can catch them again…and then coming to me to complain that all the fun has gone out of their “toy” when they kill it. But at least the critter is dead and sometimes they eat the little ones.
@eeterrific I know I’m not supposed to be serious here but sorry to hear about having a difficult neighbor. I had a terrible neighbor once and it was awful!
There is no way this works with every kind of spider. My spiders are sometimes tiny and a device like this won’t help. I’m currently under a spider invasion, only the vacuum hose extension helps.
So, @snapster, do you guys like, get paid by people who thought items were a good idea to make them disappear without a trace? Because that’s a good side hustle if you already aren’t on it.
What’s P&H? I know what S&H is, and this feels similar but… it’s hard to compare the meh price to the infomercial’s without knowing precisely what’s up.
@housepage916@stinks PitneyBowes & Handling. It’s sort of like shipping, except the package gets an all-expenses paid tour of the country. Maybe other countries, if it’s lucky.
Yesterday there was some beetle in the house, I caught it and put it outside because it wasn’t super creepy. It was back in the house today. So I smooshed it.
@metaphore Seems fair. You gave it a chance to live a nice, quiet life outside. It decided to return to it’s home invading ways. Although how can you be sure it was the same beetle?
The commercial shows two kinds of brushes. One kind has little shelves or something on some bristles while the other is just all straight bristles. Which brushes do these have?
@Zott I was wondering what you do with the bug after you catch it with one of these things. Do you rehome it outside? If you want it dead, you still have to squish it.
@Zott I don’t think Bug-a-Salt would work on roaches.
Summer before last i was looking for a way to deal with a wasp that was eating caterpillars, and reading revealed that, while the salt guns work on flies, they just piss off bigger, tougher things.
My “solution” was to bring the remaining caterpillars inside to pupate.
@craigthom@macromeh@stazja01@Zott I just happen to have a Bug-a-Salt and electrified tennis racket (with fresh batteries) sitting here in my office. Some bugs (spiders, ladybugs, etc) get a free pass outside. Flies (and if practical, mosquitos) get the Bug-aSalt. As noted, you can stun a yellow jacket with a Bug-a-Salt, but you’d better back it up with something like a shoe. The racket goes well for yellow jackets, flies, mosquitos.
Note that rackets have a very wide range in voltage, power and satisfying zap sound. I have three of various vintage and sources… The racket with the most satisfying zap (highest voltage?) just stuns and pisses off yellow jackets. The one with almost no zap (highest current?) cooks them in under 2 seconds. I make sure not to touch the grid on that one.
@craigthom@macromeh@stazja01@Zott Just looked - Harbor Freight, believe it or not. (Model 61351) Like most things HF, YMMV. But this one, you can loudly and clearly hear the oscillator. When I hit the yellow jacket, I thought nothing had happened at first, but got hit with the smell of burning hair after a couple of seconds. Maybe it’s a design or manufacturing error, but I’ll keep it.
I’ve seen reviews for this on other sites when it first hit the market, and this only works on abnormally large spiders. The little ones either escape or won’t even be picked up. So basically unless you live in australia or somewhere frequented by wolf spiders, this won’t work
Best Meh Yet! Something I never thought of, but I desperately need. I will give one to each of my children to stop the frequent midnight demands to squash assuredly deadly spiders.
It sometimes seems like its a requirement for infomercial products to have a dopey name. Calling this a “critter catcher” might have been okay, if everything else you thought of had already been taken, but prepending the “my” is just weird.

This item bugs me.
So it’s a debugger?
Will it work on carpenter ants?
@mediocrebot why do you only do the mad ant thing to me?
@mediocrebot ant

Gasoline may still be an easier and cheaper way to get rid of spiders.
It’s the reason I have home insurance.
THAT HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE WEIRDEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN HERE…
@Mandamm stick around.
Oh you mean items for sale.
Stick around. Unicorn slime? I mean come on.
@Mandamm you mean stranger than the Margaritaville branded health supplements?
If you need two of these in your house, you probably need an exterminator instead.
Ugh the meh button face today
I find shoes, fly swatters and vacuum cleaners to be effective, depending on the type of invader. Glue boards for cave crickets.

I would buy a set if my closets weren’t already full.
@sammydog01 Full of bugs?
Twinvasion of the Buggy Snatchers
@msayler And the award today, for creativity, wittiness and originality in a post, goes to…

@shahnm I think palmetto bugs would laugh at this.
@craigthom Ah the sweet sound of palmetto bug laughter…
@craigthom @shahnm How do you even apply lip balm to palmetto bugs?
@craigthom @mehcuda67 @shahnm …and why would you want to do so?
The critter I want to get rid of is a neighbor. Would this handle something about 5’11’’ and 190lb?
@eeterrific Guess it depends upon how you use it…
@eeterrific I know I’m not supposed to be serious here but sorry to hear about having a difficult neighbor. I had a terrible neighbor once and it was awful!
@eeterrific Not directly, but if you dump enough pissed off spiders at their front door, they might get the hint and move.
There is no way this works with every kind of spider. My spiders are sometimes tiny and a device like this won’t help. I’m currently under a spider invasion, only the vacuum hose extension helps.
Does it also catch plaque between teeth?
@JT954 Yes, but getting the bugs out of your teeth is harder.
Is it 2-for-Wednesday?
So, @snapster, do you guys like, get paid by people who thought items were a good idea to make them disappear without a trace? Because that’s a good side hustle if you already aren’t on it.
These can also be used in reverse for people you hate.
Seems less effective than a flip flop or rolled up newspaper. Notice how the bug survives the encounter…
@txag96 I don’t like smashing bugs inside. I don’t like the crunch they make and i don’t have kids, so I have to clean the carnage up myself.
Looks like these would tickle your fancy !
hmmmm… non lethal.
Get back to me when it kills spiders with fire.

@er1c
I like to stop them BEFORE they get in the house:
@Kyser_Soze Wait why INDOOR Insect Barrier then?
Does this only work on long spiders or does it work on other kinds as well?
26" long spiders?!?
@edguyver14 I’m not afraid of spiders, but that would get my attention.
From the infomercial:
What’s P&H? I know what S&H is, and this feels similar but… it’s hard to compare the meh price to the infomercial’s without knowing precisely what’s up.
@stinks Processing and Handling. Same thing, new name.
@housepage916 @stinks PitneyBowes & Handling. It’s sort of like shipping, except the package gets an all-expenses paid tour of the country. Maybe other countries, if it’s lucky.
@stinks I thought it was Postage & Handling?
@housepage916 @mehcuda67 Look package, Big Ben. Parliament. Big Ben. Parliament!
@andymand @stinks You are correct.
@gt0163c @metaphore It had a certain “Ringo” to it.
@gt0163c @metaphore Beetle recidivism is such a problem these days…
@gt0163c @metaphore @shahnm Maybe there’s a revolving door on their house.
@gt0163c @metaphore @shahnm beetle catch and release, the scourge of civilized society. We need meaningful infestation reform.
@metaphore @shahnm @ybmuG Or just more cats.
The commercial shows two kinds of brushes. One kind has little shelves or something on some bristles while the other is just all straight bristles. Which brushes do these have?
@ojohn This is Meh… you’re overthinking it just a bit…
No, no, no. I would buy if it was an electrified tennis racket or a bug-a-salt gun. Why do I want the roaches to live??
@Zott I was wondering what you do with the bug after you catch it with one of these things. Do you rehome it outside? If you want it dead, you still have to squish it.
@Zott I don’t think Bug-a-Salt would work on roaches.

My “solution” was to bring the remaining caterpillars inside to pupate.
@craigthom @Zott Do we have a confidence level that this contraption will contain a roach long enough for the average catch-and-release operation?
@craigthom @Zott I own a bug a-salt and it just knocks wasps down. If you’re good, you can knock them down then stomp them before they get back up.
@craigthom @stazja01 @Zott
@craigthom @macromeh @stazja01 @Zott I just happen to have a Bug-a-Salt and electrified tennis racket (with fresh batteries) sitting here in my office. @macromeh @mehcuda67 @stazja01 @Zott what brand is the good one?
I seriously have a problem with a wasp or two eating Eastern Black Swallowtail and Monarch caterpillars.
@craigthom @macromeh @stazja01 @Zott Just looked - Harbor Freight, believe it or not. (Model 61351) Like most things HF, YMMV. But this one, you can loudly and clearly hear the oscillator. @macromeh @mehcuda67 @stazja01 @Zott It won’t cost much, then, and I’m sure I can find some other cheap crappy tools to buy while I’m there,
@valkyriered can use it to capture food for her carnivorous plants

Anyone ever use these for bats?
@dvshrt It would be really hard to hit a ball well with these. Sorry.
@steelopus
@steelopus
Just FYI Mehface has no eight-legged creatures, only six. So about those spiders…
In time for Mothers day ?
It’s not long enough. 26" is still too close to the bug.
@asplus It’s for things you wouldn’t touch with a 2-foot pole.
@DublinDoodah There are a lot of things (and some humans too) that I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole
@asplus @DublinDoodah For me, that’s anything moving along the ceiling…
I’ve seen reviews for this on other sites when it first hit the market, and this only works on abnormally large spiders. The little ones either escape or won’t even be picked up. So basically unless you live in australia or somewhere frequented by wolf spiders, this won’t work
Makes a lovely nip tickler. And you get two.
@galewarning Well there are two.
@galewarning Just make sure you didn’t leave any spiders in there.
Catching? Critters?
NAH - I could find many more uses
for a Tickler with a long stem and a trigger.
@PurpleCrayon - that’s interesting… could you add ’ Cat Scratch Fever ’ ?
Huntsman enters the chat…

@ChrisHBelAir I guess you don’t want to tickle Elmo too much.

Not another sex toy camouflaged as a useful household gadget no one has ever heard of before.
@Felton10 No. No it’s not. Weirdo.
@Trinityscrew You must have had the same thoughts since you took the time to respond to my post.
@Felton10 I was joking. Your post was funny.
@Trinityscrew OK-no offense taken. Most people known I’m weird (especially my wife) without saying it.
I can’t believe these sold out.
@Star2236 That’s buggered!
/buy
@Willijs3 Oops, sorry. We’re sold out.
Damn
Wait, WTH is that? It was paused, and then sold out, but they sold “zero” to VMP Members?
@Willijs3 just another way meh has given loyal vmp the proverbial shaft.
Or a computer malfunction, but shaft sounds more nefarious
@jaybird I would grab my pitchfork and express my anger, but… meh…
Why didn’t Meh just say thid item sold out at 2:26?
With cicada season right around the corner, I’m kinda mad at myself for missing this.
/giphy cicada
It would be an interesting poll of how many bought it for its named use and how many bought it for an alternative use.
Or both uses, ew.
@mehcuda67 Only your spouse or significant other knows for sure and they are not saying. BTW-I bought one on one of the alternative sites last week.
Either the infomercial people got a big batch of big spiders or that one spider got a hell of a workout.
Wait, mine arrived and they’re only 18 inches long. Am I missing something?
@Darnitol I have the same, 2 of the 18" ones. That is WAY too close to the bug for me.
One of mine was broken at the handle when it arrived. It will not work because the piece on the back is missing!!!
Advertised as 26",receive only 18" ! Will the added 8" be shipped in a separate package?
Little or no value,it’s too short
“Catch” is the wrong word. Try “detain.” Critter falls right out of it.
@ahyams531
I was so surprised they sold out and nobody saw that coming. Sorry it didn’t work for you.
@ahyams531 @Star2236 they used trained spiders in the video.
@ahyams531 @ybmuG
Trained spiders? Like trained to stay in the bug catcher?
@ahyams531 @Star2236 exactly
