@zhicks1987-No, Bro, they are 10" High,… the H stands for Height, or High, but that is still not very tall unless you’re a baby!! I was thinking about buying them, until i saw the measurements.
@narfcake@plymouthdave- you must be in North Dakota!! I have a relative living there & it was -24° there the other nite, or around 3-4 AM!! No, Thanks, Brotha!! ❄
@1DisabledWarVet@plymouthdave Some years back I had a flight out of MSP and it was -33° that morning. My connecting flight was in Denver where It was downright warm at 10°!
These types of heaters aren’t effective as fans, but I appreciate when they include a ‘fan only’ mode, so I can clear the residual heat from the elements before shutting the heater completely off. (Prevents residual heat from damaging things inside the heater over time.)
@PooltoyWolf dumb observation, but shouldn’t that be built into the shutoff procedure? I’ve got a Vevor and Black & Decker with built-in thermostats that take an extra 30-60 seconds to power-off because they’re cooling back down to room temperature. (I’ve also got dumb ones without thermostats, but only have settings for fan-low-high)
@pakopako You would think, but many space heaters only have one mode: ‘ON’. When you shut the unit off, the fan and heater turn off together, which over time allows residual heat to build up inside the upper areas of the housing. I don’t often run across heaters with multiple heat settings that DON’T have a fan only mode, but they do exist. Ironically, one of them was bought here! (A fireplace-style one)
These types of heaters are ideal for bathrooms if you live in a cold weather State! Like the Energizer Bunny, they keep on going and never quit. I keep my heat set at 62 degrees; some rooms are colder than that. 15 minutes prior to showering in the morning, I turn on my small ceramic heater that sets on the bathroom’s sink vanity top, and it does a great job of warming the bathroom and minimizes condensation and fogging-up of bathroom mirrors. I also have one set under my PC desk that I turn on when using my PC.
@user84355571- I doubt they ‘never quit’ since they aren’t warranted but for 90 days! They likely start sputtering after around 15 to 30 days,… if that long!!
@Mark_L did they ever figure out who was installing big metal pillars in random places over the last few years?
Also looks like it will be a while before we can go to the 2001 Space Hilton hotel. Can’t believe how optimistic people were when A.C.Clarke wrote it and Kubrik envisioned it. Both geniuses of the time, sadly gone now.
@pmarin Clarke’s and Kubrik’s works were indeed memorable. I read about some of the pillars in more recent times, but never any answers about them. I guess we’ll just need to remember their memories while enjoying whatever wine fits the occasion!
The brand is “PGYIOO!”, and they are virtually non-existent except for stuff they sell everywhere, including WalMart.
I have serious doubts if this heater is UL listed or even tested extensively. You are literally gambling your life away if you buy this cheap crap and plug it in where you live and breathe.
@1DisabledWarVet@aciarlotta do you have evidence of your claims? I bought a heater on Amazon which was recalled. So im looking to replace it with this.
@1DisabledWarVet@aciarlotta@leisasd I would agree the FUD is excessive here. (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt, a classic marketing technique, or I guess “dissing” in new lingo) My experience with this type of heater has been good (not tried this one). Most have some sort of safety certification or is it just something they print on the box.
The creation of seemingly-random names was explained in a discussion here a few months ago; Amazon had a new rule requiring a previously-unused name for new imported products and so there are thousands of goofily-named product brands now.
@1DisabledWarVet@leisasd No mention of UL listing in any place it’s advertised for sale. No “UL” sticker on any picture I could find either. Hard pass.
We bought a massage gun on Meh a year or so ago. It arced and melted, but luckily we were in the same room when it happened. Several Amazon reviews said the same thing happened, one of them came with a picture of the carpet that had burned. It was not UL listed.
Not UL listed = not tested to American standards. Use at your own risk.
It boggles my mind when people charge more than $40 for a space heater… like it’s something super fancy…
You take 10A power (the 1500W output rating here) and convert it to heat. Great. That’s what we call an energy conversion. They’re 100% efficient, too.
If you put them on a bigger circuit they’d probably output more heat, too. But at some point you will cause the elements to melt, so… YMMV.
@dhdickson They are not that bad, in my opinion. I did move it out from under my desk to about 6 feet away for that reason, but I wouldn’t give it away.
This is a disaster waiting to happen. Don’t buy it! It’s cheap Chinese poor quality garbage. I bought it and instantly regretted it. The manual was obviously not written by an English speaker and had zero usable instructions. The fan had features and icons but i had no information on how to use or what they meant. It has a timer but could not figure out how to time it. Just real poor design. No certifications. Scary

Four inches high, you say?
@zhicks1987 Nah, 10 inches! (fixed)
@troy @zhicks1987
They measured it while checking out the “tip over” future
@zhicks1987-No, Bro, they are 10" High,… the H stands for Height, or High, but that is still not very tall unless you’re a baby
!! I was thinking about buying them, until i saw the measurements.
Considering it was nearly 80° here yesterday, how about an air conditioner instead?
@narfcake We’re going to hit 12° on Wednesday in Dallas!
@narfcake @troy Us too in NJ on Wednesday. That’s a huge swath of America getting chilly!
@narfcake I guess buy it now and don’t open it until October
@narfcake -23 here. I’m in.
@narfcake @troy- 12° Wed & Thurs here!
@narfcake @plymouthdave- you must be in North Dakota!! I have a relative living there & it was -24° there the other nite, or around 3-4 AM!!
No, Thanks, Brotha!! ❄
@1DisabledWarVet @narfcake Next door. Minnesota.
@1DisabledWarVet @plymouthdave Some years back I had a flight out of MSP and it was -33° that morning. My connecting flight was in Denver where It was downright warm at 10°!
Up to 99 degrees? Not what I would consider high heat.
@wootcat 99 degrees for the thermostat, not the actual heat coming out.
@troy @wootcat Turns out the top thermostat setting is 105.
The last winter cold snap is this week. Could Meh be going for the impulse buy? Nah, Meh could never be so clever.
@hchavers
FIFY
They seem to be rolling in pretty regularly.
Don’t look too long at the little trolls.
@odontmindme As usual, the hands are messed up. Thumbs that levitate and palms backwards.

@pakopako @PooltoyWolf These do indeed have a 30 second cool down cycle as part of the power off.
@pakopako @plymouthdave Awesome
FOOLS! TOOLS! JEWELS! AWESOME!
/showme 2 1500W Oscillating Space Heater with 99° Thermostat & Remote and trolls
@mediocrebot awesome
LEGOS! EGGOS! STRATEGO! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot @therealjrn
Nice that they included an Orocle Reamer as a feature!
Definitely Interestiny designe
@chienfou @mediocrebot @therealjrn I was far more impressed by the Shong fonde Ardu! You never see those anymore.
@chienfou @mediocrebot @shanesny @therealjrn Irk? Is that you?
High is 1500 watts, but any idea what wattage the medium, low, and eco modes use?
@crazycarl864 These kinds of heaters are always 600, 900, and 1500W. The 1500W mode is just running both coils.
@crazycarl864 @jandrese LMFAO
Apparently China is making strides in nuclear fusion (or “nucular” to W).
i’ll just wait a few years for their portable model to show up on TEMU.
/showme a portable nuclear fusion heater
@mediocrebot Ah, the model with the levitating lid. And no USB-C ports?
But, a design flaw if there is radioactivity! (silly a.i. bot)
@mediocrebot @phendrick Did you want it to charge USB devices or to be powered by USB? I think you should include that in your prompt.
@phendrick Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.
@Fuzzalini @phendrick I’ve said that before. Maybe in my younger days especially. Here, hold my beer!
/showme a person portable fusion Generator to power a small house with a number of USB ports.
@mediocrebot That sure is a small house.

Can u set a temp so that it will cycle on and off?
@Felyne Unless they are using a rather dodgy definition of the word “thermostat,” yes.
@Felyne @plymouthdave it’s a very dodgy definition for sure.
@Felyne @leisasd The heat cycles on and off to maintain the desired temperature but the fan keeps running, as it turns out.
PGYIOO!
How do the remotes work?
If they are infra, it would explain their presence here.
@vorever Yes. Infrared.
The final image would have been better set in a “2001: A Space Odyssey” setting:

@Mark_L did they ever figure out who was installing big metal pillars in random places over the last few years?

I love the ghastly comfort series. always brightens my day
@agnesnutter I love the series too, but oddly it makes my day ever-gray.

@aciarlotta- They’re sooo small that ya 4get they are there & that Is DANGEROUS!
It’s by definition: Extremely Flammable!! 🫣

/showme a portable nuclear fusion heater with many USB ports and trolls
@mediocrebot I would buy that as long as it came with full set of trolls (not the ones on this forum)

I haven’t seen any comments related to noise level so I’ll make one – these things work OK, but they’re really LOUD. Going to give them away.
